thinking about duck dhmis having health issues and not even knowing it. first of all, he has diabetes, which you could say is just a joke, but i dont really think so. id say it would be if yellow guy didnt bring it up again a minute later in electricity where it was confirmed. sure hes talking to a different character, but his immediate assumption when someone is acting strange is to assume their blood sugar is low. i might be stretching- but to me it implies hes been in this situation before. charged yellow guy doesnt become smarter out of nowhere, he simply understands his already existing memories better, meaning he wouldve already known what low blood sugar was and how to deal with it before his batteries getting replaced. this implies to me that yellow guy has helped duck with his low blood sugar before, though i dont think him or duck actually understands whats going on. im not a diabetes expert or anything, but i know that low blood sugar is not nice, and you feel much better after grabbing a snack. which is funny, because in the past the creators have really driven it home that duck enjoys sweets and just food in general. in the “Its Nice That” QNA back in like 2016, half of ducks answers were about snacks and foods he liked. he said he finds yogurt exciting, and that his blood type is cream, etc. again, maybe im stretching, but it makes sense for him to enjoy these foods so much, because they’d probably make him feel better even if he doesn’t understand why. he probs thinks he just really fucking likes yogurt but in reality his blood sugar is literal ass.

moving on though, in the death episode he mentions forgetting to drink water, which is the cause of his literal death. dehydration is not a nice feeling, and its canon that the puppets experience pain like we do to an extent, so how long was duck feeling miserable without noticing? when the coffin cuts his finger he doesnt react at all, saying it “doesnt hurt that much” but pain is pain even if its small. he didnt even flinch to his finger being cut off. i dont think its the pain thats small, i think his pain tolerance is just too high for his own good. he probably didnt notice the pain of dehydration, or the pains of low blood pressure, or the pain of his insides being removed. he felt it, but he just didnt register how bad it really was. when he sees yellow guy being tore up in jobs he starts freaking out, obviously understanding that it must hurt, but if he was in the same situation he would be laughing. it makes me kind of sad in a way

there’s three ways i think this can be interpreted:

1: hes so desensitized to his own pain after eternity of being ripped apart that he doesnt even register when hes in pain anymore

2: hes so determined to be big and strong (like the military) that he refuses to acknowledge his pain because its a weakness he needs to get over

or 3: a mixture of both that is so bad it causes him to literally die of his own self-neglect. and even when his body tries to shut down and rest(die), he still refuses even that.

(plus, to add on to my runt-duck post, runts often have life-long health issues if they do live past infancy. i will die on the runt-duck hill. he is just like me.)

Thinking about how duck loves so deeply. How he views himself as responsible for the other two. How he is absolutely devastated when anything bad happens to them. Thinking about how ducks cannot function without companionship in real life. Family is actually so devastating for this exact reason. The way you can feel his desperation through out the episode, yearning for an acknowledgment of what he’s saying, for some sort of agreement from the other two. Their friendship is literally everything to him, even though hes the worst at showing it. Duck is painfully relatable to me not only as an autistic, but as a person with, OCD, undiagnosed OCPD/cluster-b, and trauma. I mean ffs his visual inventory is literally a compulsion. He is checking to make sure that they are all still here, that nobody has left again. He views the clip board as a safety net for not only himself, but for the other two as well. He truly and deeply believes that by performing his little rituals, he’s keeping them safe and out of harms way. It’s painful to see people write him off as the “funny jerk character”, when he’s so much more than that. He is someone who has so much love to give but struggles to express it. He is jealous of others who have it better than him and wants the things that they have, like a family. Because as much as the trio love each other, they are stuck in a perpetual state of self destruction. They will never truly be able to be a functional family, try as they might. Theres always going to be something missing, always something more that they want. Duck hates that, I think deep down he knows this is true even if he can’t fully grasp it and that pains him greatly. Red and yellow are his real family, his only family. Nothing will ever stop him from believing that, no matter how many times he’s ripped apart for it or told otherwise.

thinking about duck and the symbolism around him again… the symbols of cracked eggs to represent him.. the term “bad hatch” in the family song… the way hes the only one of the main three to have NO biological family/species at all.

if there was one word to describe duck, i think it would be “runt.” he is the smallest, which is pointed out often, and hes completely separated from his kind as a whole, which is often the case for runt animals.

duck reminds me a lot of the ugly duckling story, it’s probably how he thinks of himself. he thinks hes simply a swan amongst the ducks. they don’t associate with him because hes simply better than them. however, this is not the case. hes not a swan, hes just a runt, and no amount of denial will make him any bigger or any less ugly.

this is why i find bigger duck so interesting. hes not only white, but completely rebuilt. unlike red guy he has completely scrapped his entire being, leaving his old runt body and finally becoming a swan.

the translation being both “unwell” and “unimportant” means so much because in the red guy world red guy himself would feel VERY unimportant. hed feel mocked by others, judged heavily. it’s obvious all the other red things are unhappy, but they refuse to admit it. he works every day with them and he knows they dont enjoy it any more than him, but thats what they’re supposed to do, so they all deal with it. sorry if this is short im very tired rn and also sunburnt as shit so my brain is a little mush, but this is so red guy its insane. that is my thoughts. does a little curtsy.

i just had a thought… you know how duck remembers things like winning a tournament? he didn’t actually, but he has it in his head? theres photos of him winning it, and flying planes and many other things, but it’s obvious none of that actually happened. do you think he imagines it? do you think he comes up with an entire life of being a father and winning awards because in reality he has no past or future? theres photos of him graduating, i think theres one of red guy too if im remembering right, but did that actually happen or is that ducks imagination again? do you think hes imagined graduating with red guy, having a childhood where theyre best friends, but in reality its just his imagination filling in the blanks? do you think he has a million fond memories of growing up together or causing trouble as highschoolers (or whatever british people call it) when in reality its just him imagining decades of friendship that never were? so when he asks red guy about the tournament or graduation or that time they snuck out together in the 80s or something, hes surprised to find out that red guy doesnt remember, because it never happened… or am i overthinking it…

@sherbetyy i saw ur tags on my last post and i actually want to point something out and go on a lil rant cuz of a common misconception (no hate to u dont worry gamer i like you :33)

anyway, you said red guy has “left them before” and i just want to say i dont think this is true. If you mean the webseries, i understand because thats the common interpretation, but its kind of baffling to me that after THIS long people still dont realize that red guy was trying to turn off the digital world when he walked away from the table. he was already out of it, he was trying to help yellow and duck and accidentally. ACCIDENTALLY. got sent somewhere else. he wasnt trying to leave, he was wandering around FOR THEM to free them from the digital world. he literally says “what?” before his head pops in the party room because he had no idea thats what he was going to find and had no intention of going anywhere or doing anything but unplugging the computer.

not only that, but in the tv series he argues with yellow and duck to stay in the car with him before he leaves the house. he couldve easily let them get out and left without them but he refused. he doesn’t want to leave them. he acts like he does in family but even then hes still sitting literally shoulder to shoulder to them in the twins house so like, hes clearly not doing a good job at getting away from them.

i would like to say though, he doesnt do much when something happens to them. like in jobs or in death he doesnt really do anything when theyre hurt or injured, and he acts like he doesnt care when theyre gone, but hes never been able to bring himself to leave them himself.

as a dhmis expert red guy isnt a good person and if you think he is you’ve missed the point. hes not a bad person but hes morally grey and thats a big part of his character. duck is worse, sure, but because duck is the “asshole” character i feel like people forget about shit red guy does. red guy could do the same thing as duck and its often brushed off because people see him as a better person, but the irony of that is that he WILL be a better person at the end of his little arc, but he HAS to be called out on his bullshit. (the family episode was literally this. also jobs in a way) no, hes not terrible and he normally has no ill intent, but he can be cruel as a deflection of his insecurities and doing things like literally getting duck brainwashed in jobs or being a dick at his LITERAL FUNERAL. (i will NEVER let him live that down hes going to hell for that fr) but anyway, i think the creators have made both duck AND red guy the asshole characters now, having decided to make yellow guy the one smart enough (kind enough) to care about finding the truth. im not trying to be rude or like say youre burning in hell for liking red guy cuz hes my babygirl and my girlfriend but hes also a bitch if we’re being 100% for realzies
