kitten i have to be honest your misunderstanding of what 'death of the author' actually means is getting embarassing and mommy would prefer if you posted less or maybe attended some classes on literary analysis

is that piece of media actually bad, or is it just not following the blueprint you projected onto it? is that work actually not good, or are you just demanding something from it that is absolutely antithetical to its themes, genre, tone, and narrative goal? is that story actually poorly written, or do you just dislike that it is not the specific things you wanted from it that it never set out to be, never was, and never is going to become? is it actually bad, or is it actually well-executed and you just dislike the story it chose to be because it isn't catering to your specific desires and expectations?

Ok it is actually fascinating to me to look at the WBN tag currently and have people like oh perhaps there is complexity and witches are indeed demanding and arrogant and vindictive and might be turning people into statues for unknown reasons and it's not so black and white, it's not just Wizards Bad Witches Good, and I'm like I've Been Here The Whole Time

I'm going to be playing an eldritch knight in a game and my backstory involves being taught by a wizard and while they are an NPC and a dead one at that it is The D&D Relationship Of All time; a martial class with wizard abilities and the wizard that taught them. Liam and Sam were insane for that.

thinking about the poll about canon vs non-canon ships that didn't define terms, and the current fandom focus on things "going canon," so i made up a scale.
this is NOT a question about whether canon matters to what you ship (or matters at all), just how to define the phrase "canon ship."
many ships start low on the scale and slow burn their way up, so vote for the point when you would have called them "canon." i agonized over the order (especially #4-6) for a day and a half, but i went with the order in which i think joe random with a nielsen ratings box and no tumblr account would notice/call something a romantic relationship.

Inspired by that one scene in episode 79 and the lamentable waste of expensive chalk.

OK actually like. fascinating to me that a young Cordelia Glask cared about her heart-of-gold security guard and tried to talk to him and he just. vanished one day without a trace. and then 12 years later she did precisely the same thing.

the way liam weaved the story of this circle together. we started looking for these bones, took a little detour to visit an old friend and discovered he was FUCKED and corrupted with some weird powder. then back to the bones and the discovery of the ancient sorceress they belong to, who ties BACK into their old friend and his circle and the powder, all of which lead them deep into the abyss. it all lead into that cavern, that vault, and depth. they had no choice but to end up there.

wait just realized that I owe one more "most egregiously mischaracterized character" answer still and like. the problem is I don't know if there's a character who isn't frequently egregiously mischaracterized but I will say Keyleth might take the cake specifically because on one side you have the violent hatred of her as a female character with cool abilities and on the other hand you have people who will not brook any criticism as backlash and so they erase anything interesting (self-righteousness, being naive and annoying, concerns about living a thousand years that go beyond lifespan angst in a romantic context to a sort of existential dread because she is like, 21) from her initial depiction, they do not know how to handle her anger and so you get the most "wow she's so complex, sometimes she gets angry, an emotion women don't have usually", and most importantly she serves as like, an extremely clear example of someone who is like I have deep and personal beef with the Raven Queen also I think killing her would be dumb as shit and that really does not make the dumb as shit crowd happy and also because of how hated Keyleth was and because now in C3 I think she is (appropriately!) being used, to an extent, as Matt's NPC mouthpiece of HEY YOU SHOULD TRUST THIS CHARACTER'S JUDGMENT people put words in her mouth so that they can pretend they do.
