Hannibal, Season 3: The Wrath of the Lamb – It was Bryan Fuller who noted that this could be interesting: two men on opposite sides of the law and morality completing one another in the way that only the closest of friends can. From that idea, he conceptualized a back story, and that back story was a love story.
Therefore, Bryan Fuller set up an elaborate ruse that sees Will helping Hannibal escape prison to face off with the Red Dragon for an inevitable violent end. This was never just a horror show about serial killers. Instead, Fuller offered us a life-affirming show about the blindness of friendship and love. In each other, Hannibal and Will found new reasons for living. In odd but not exactly disturbing ways, they became each other’s muses inspiring one another to be the best that they can be. But in the end, Will saw that as much as they needed each other, the world is better off without them. (insp)
