The performance element of witchcraft
Everyone performs. It's just an inherent part of talking about any practice, and that's not a bad thing. It's part of engaging with any community. Talking about cool experiences we have, things we want to do, taking pictures, making posts, etc. We even perform to ourselves, make things #aesthetic to get in the mindset.
The problem is when THAT'S what our identity as practitioners begins to hinge on. Sometimes it's better to keep certain things personal. Sometimes we risk focusing most on the appearance of the act rather than the actual intended results.
Ask yourself: if you could speak to NOBODY about your work, take no pictures, share nothing, what would you do? Would it change? What gives you peace when nobody else is around to give it to you?

Hello Witchblr and Occultists! My name is Dani, and I am a practicing witch, as well as a first-year graduate student of journalism.
Right now, I鈥檓 writing my final article for class this semester on closed practices in witchcraft.
I would love to speak with practitioners of closed religions and people who work within closed practices for this piece! Particularly regarding what your specific practice means to you, your opinion on other people carrying out parts of your practice, and if/why you think it鈥檚 become a widespread issue.
My final article is due on May 7th. I would just need to ask a few questions of you, maybe a couple follow ups, it wouldn鈥檛 take long. I would be happy to chat over DM here, speak over zoom, or send you the questions to answer via email! Just as a heads up, I would need your name (you can use a fake name if you prefer), age, pronouns, profession, and general location where you鈥檙e from (can be as vague as you feel comfortable).
I would also welcome comments from anyone in the witchcraft/occult community here on the matter in the replies below! Both those within closed practices and from outside. (I might reach out to you privately for any follow up questions.)
There are lots of incredible resources I鈥檝e come across through my time on tumblr, but I think my article would greatly benefit from conversation. So please, if you鈥檙e comfortable and willing, I would love to speak with you! :)

A single spell? Non. I will do many spells for the same thing while eliminating elements of the issue.
