MB TWIST-SWIFT
The RBI aims to turn the rupee global by approving international currency transactions. While it was predicted that allowing trade settlements in rupees between India and other countries would primarily increase commerce with Russia, it was also expected to stop the flow of dollars and restrict the depreciation of the rupee to a “very limited level.” To settle trade transactions with any country, Indian banks would open Vostro accounts with correspondent banks of those partners. Indian importers can deposit INR into these accounts to pay for their goods. Then, by utilizing these import income receipts, Indian exporters may be compensated in INR. A Vostro account is one that a correspondent bank manages on behalf of another bank. For instance, SBI in India manages the Vostro account for HSBC. Except for countries like Nepal and Bhutan, a company’s exports and imports are currently always made in foreign currency.
This change came after the Russia-Ukraine war. After the conflict in Ukraine, sanctions were placed on Russia, and it was also removed from the SWIFT system (a system used by banks for payments in foreign currency). As a result, dealing between Russia and India froze and both parties faced some major loses.
Currently, State Bank of India is all ready to open rupee trade account with Russian banks. The bank in a statement said it is “making necessary arrangements and processing requests received from various banks, including Russian banks”, following guidelines laid out by the RBI. Hence, other players in the industry are lined up to make such collaborations.
TASK IN HAND
Following this suit, Punjab National Bank is planning to enter into negotiations with the Russian banks for Vostro account You are required to come up the following deliverables for the same:
1. List of potential banks for collaborations, reasons for choosing them and strategies to attract them
2. USP of the Vostro account specific to the bank
3. Marketing strategies to attract existing and new customers
4. Propose more suitable countries for further collaborations with phase-wise implementation plan

A CONFLICTED DREAM
Tumblr media
The overpopulation and high population density is a major problem in the slums of India. This problem of overpopulation is a major concern in Dharavi, the largest slum of India. On one hand overpopulation has created problems like food shortage when the public distribution system (PDS) was disrupted due to COVID-19 and is yet to find its distribution efficiency again. And on the other hand, there is a set of problems that already existed prior to COVID-19 that included air pollution, water contamination and no proper sewage or drainage systems.
There had been talks of a Dharavi Redevelopment project by the Maharashtra government and a tender had also been released in the year 2004 which was bagged by a Dubai-Based firm Seclink Technology Corporation (STC) for the revamp of the 600-acre slum. It has been more than 15 years now, and even the slightest of progress is yet to be seen. The government of Maharashtra has decided to re-release the tender due to the failure and will invite prospective bidders again.
One of the reasons why this project failed was due to a resistance to change by the residents who run their small and dingy businesses within the slum and any stoppage in their business will lead to a direct loss in their sources of income.
The situation in Dharavi is going out of hands and as the strategic consultant to the government of Maharashtra you are required to eradicate the scare in Dharavi on all issues identified.
Deliverables:
a. Identify prospective companies who will benefit from acquiring the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Tender.
b. Propose a plan of action to pull Dharavi out of its misery.
c. Prepare a campaign to remove the resistance from the residents.
d. Propose a new USP for Dharavi. The old one being “the largest slum in India”.
e. Propose a budget and its allocation to different issues.
Submission time: 10:55am

BRITISH RAJ
Tumblr media
It is said that Alexander the Great introduced opium to India as early as 330 B.C. while uncertain if it was actually Alexander the Great, it is clear that opium had been a significant part of Indian culture before British imperialism. The Portuguese, who first observed Indian opium use in 1600, stated that opium was widely used and was highly valued in society. Opium’s role in culture was just as important when the British East India Company established itself in India. The Company took control of opium production and established a state monopoly. The opium trade was very lucrative and was imperative in paying for the cost of imperialism in India. This task is based on the time period of 1830-1839. The Second Opium war ended in 1842, which removed all legal barriers of the opium trade to China and substantially increased production.
The British obtained profits from the opium trade through the state-controlled monopoly in Bengal, collecting pass fees from the Malawa opium producing region, and imposing excise taxes on domestic sales.3 The profits from the Bengal region were the most extensive and comprised the majority of British revenue from opium.
This product was the primary source of Britain to reduce their trade deficit with China. Britain and other European countries undertook the opium trade because of their chronic trade imbalance with China. There was tremendous demand in Europe for Chinese tea, silks, and porcelain pottery, but there was correspondingly little demand in China for Europe’s manufactured goods and other trade items. Consequently, Europeans had to pay for Chinese products with gold or silver. The opium trade, which created a steady demand among Chinese addicts for opium imported by the West, solved this chronic trade imbalance.
At the same time, opium addictions led to various problems in China and reduced the overall productivity of the workers and the Qing Dynasty planned to take strict measures against the same.
Task at Hand:
The Year is 1839, the Qing Dynasty and Britain are at the brink of war and this will have a large impact on the East India Companies revenue generation. You are the CSO of the East-India Trading Company and you are requested to form a plan of action containing the following deliverables:
1. Substitutes for Opium in trading
2. Setting up a new trade cycle (Supply Chain)
3. Negotiation Strategies with the Qing Dynasty
4. Man-Power Planning for New Crop Growths
5. Strategies to Suppress Indian Insurgent Groups
6. Phase wise implementation for the next 10 years.
7. Future strategies for expansion

KL Rahul, the captain of Lucknow Super Giants, one of the franchises in the Indian Premier League, has been in the limelight since a long time.
The spot of an opening batsman is very crucial in the game of cricket and every team counts on getting a good opening partnership, especially in T20 matches. K L Rahul is one such opener who has been in the limelight for an unusual amount of time now.
First was his surprising decision to leave Punjab Kings in the year 2021 where he was the captain and join Lucknow Super Giants with a contract value of 17 Crore R.s. in the Indian Premier League and then his unfortunate groin injury due to which he missed several international series (after IPL) with South Africa, England and West Indies. The struggle continued for KL Rahul with his out of form come back in the Asia Cup 2022 hosted in U.A.E. He did have 1 good match in the recent T20 International series against Australia but couldn’t capitalize on the momentum in the next matches in the same series.
And now, KL Rahul has found himself yet another spotlight, not just the traditional media but on Social Media giant: Twitter.
The twitter chain that took place after Arshdeep’s dropped catch in the India V/S Pakistan Match:
@PunjabKingsIPL
 (in support of Arshdeep Singh)
“We are proud of you Arsh.”
@LucknowIPL
“So @PunjabKingsIPL is cheering for those who are responsible for Indian Cricket Team’s defeat..”
Khalistani’s are running this account? @realpreityzinta
#INDvPAK
@klrahul
So if I fail to score runs against Pakistan will I not have your moral support @LSG?
@ randomuser14789
Seems like it’s time for @ klrahul to change his team yet again.
This controversial dialogue soon became medias source of various “alleged” interpretations. Some media houses pointed out KL Rahul’s recent performance and questioned him to be a liability for the Lucknow Super Giants and mentioned that there is no reason for the management to keep K.L. in the team. Others mentioned that KL Rahul is allegedly looking forward to be a part of another new chapter in IPL. In other words, K.L. is looking for a new team.
These points by media do make sense as the relation between the LSG Management and KL Rahul is irreversible and it is evident that both will part ways.
KL Rahul’s current contract status
KL Rahul currently has a contract worth 17 Crore INR which will be paid each season for a period of 3 years. KL has completed only one year of the contract so far and has received the payment for it. The remaining 2 years or 2 IPL seasons are yet to be played.
IPLs POLICY
As per IPLs policy, if a player wants to be released then he can ask the franchise to do so and not get any further amount from the contract but if the franchise lets a player go then they have to pay for the full term for which the player was contracted. (I.e. K.L. will be paid for the remaining 2 years as well by the LSG management).
Scenario 1: PLAYER TRADE
In a trading window any number of franchises can swap any combination of players with each other. The ‘trading window’ for players will be opened in the month of November, 2022 before the small auction planned for next season of IPL (2023). There are many players expected to enter this year’s trading window. However, when it comes to trade players, franchises have a restriction on spending.
Note: A player from another team with a lesser contract value can be traded with K.L. Rahul and the difference becomes your unrealized profit. If you chose a player with a higher contract value, then the difference becomes your unrealized loss.
Restriction:
A franchise (whether LSG or any other team) cannot exceed the contract value of 1 year of the traded player plus the remaining purse of the franchise in the last auction to trade a player.
Scenario 2: CONTRACT SELLING
A franchise can simply choose to sell the contract of a player as well without having a replacement player. In this transaction, the buying franchise legally acquires the services of the player leaving the selling franchise with one player less in their team. The contract value cannot be changed in this case.
Restriction:
The amount for which the player is bought for by the buying team will be deducted from their purse from the auction of next year’s IPL (2023).
The details of remaining franchise purse in the last auction (IPL 2022):
Tumblr media
Note: The purse for the next auction is 90 crores Rs. Per team. Any contract value of player retained is deducted from this 90 crore Rs. Any player bought before the auction is also deducted from this 90 crore Rs.
The details of number of squad members for IPL 2022 are as follows:
Tumblr media
You will find the contract price and Player type for each player and all teams in the link given below:
The Price column is the Contract Value.
Task in Hand:
As the management of Lucknow Super Giants,
A. Rank the options which you will go for in the given scenario – ‘Player Trade’ and ‘Contract Sale’, ‘1’ being the first preference and ‘2’ being the second preference.
B. For ‘Player Trade’, state the following:
i. Player(s) chosen from any other team to be traded with reason.
ii. Contract Value of player chosen and type of player (I.e. – Batter, Bowler, All-Rounder or Wicket-Keeper)
iii. Loss/Profit to the management of Lucknow Super Giants if the trade is executed (in Rupees, with proper calculation showed)
iv. Loss/Profit to the Team chosen (with which you will trade).
C. For ‘Contract sale’, state the following:
i. Team chosen to which contract will be sold (with reasoning).
ii. Profit made by the management of Lucknow Super Giants.
D. Propose a plan of action that the LSG management should take considering the damage caused to their repo due to the chain of tweets.
Submit a Report of not more than 5 pages before 8:00 A.M.

“SEBI V/s Chitra Ramkrishna”
Tumblr media
Facts:
Subramaniam was appointed as Group Operating Officer in a meeting in which the Chairman, Mr. Ashok Chawla and the MD & CEO, Chitra Ramkrishna were a part on April, 2015. The minutes of the meeting didn’t account for Subramaniam’s promotion and appraisal from Rs. 1.68 Crores to Rs. 4.21 crores, it being classified as sensitive and confidential information.
It was first alleged that Chitra Ramkrishna visited tax havens like Seychelles just before her tenure at NSE and after exiting as well which was then proved to be right by the Tax department.
In 2015, a whistle-blower raised allegations that a Delhi-based member on the NSE was accessing privileged price information by linking to NSE’s trading servers and getting access to least crowded servers. It gave this member an advantage of getting a faster access to market information as compared to other traders. The whistle-blower also mentioned that several NSE employees were colluding with traders. According to the tax officials after inspection these traders getting access made gains up to Rs. 50,000 Cr. Moreover, the Delhi-based member has been identified and SEBI has banned it from the market for five years and imposed a fine of Rs. 15.57 crore. This case is still pending (not closed) with the Securities Appellate Tribunal.
The NSE follows a chain of command where the functional heads handle the day-to-day operations at NSE and report to the top management.
Ramkrishna has been denied bail multiple times on the argument that the high-profile case is still on-going and she is still in jail.
Set-up:
In this moot court, the prosecutor will aim to prove that Ramkrishna is guilty of as many allegations by using the evidences given or any external evidence from a reliable source.
The prosecutor is free to bring any other evidence or point out any other allegation only backed by evidence to the proceeding.
The defence will aim to defend Ramkrishna of the allegations raised as well as try to get a bail for her.
Any statement made without supporting evidence will not be admissible in the court of law.
Tumblr media
Evidences/ Materials that can be used:
Material 1: “CODE OF CONDUCT”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Material 2: Statement made by Ramkrishna
“Subsequently, over the years I have taken his guidance on many personal and professional matters. Along the way, since He would manifest at will and I did not have any locational coordinates I requested Him for a way in which I could seek His guidance whenever I felt the need. Accordingly, He gave me an id on which I could send my requests.”
Ramkrishna had also said several senior leaders often seek informal counsel from coaches, mentors or other seniors, which are all purely informal by nature. Similarly, she thought guidance from this spiritual force would help her perform her role better.
Material 3: The Unidentified Yogi’s mail to Chitra Ramkrishna
Date: 15th March, 2015
Dear Ms. Ramkrishna,
“It is a pleasure to realise your faith in me. As I am writing this mail to you, I am getting a strong sense of happiness and comfort that you feel while performing your duties at the NSE. I received your email about the concern that you had regarding Mr. Subramaniam and his current position of Chief Strategic Advisor. In this matter, I only remind you your view point that Subramaniam has been an enthusiastic soul since he joined you in this new endeavour and has proved his support and assistance to you in every stage of life. And my point of view only emphasizes that take a positive step in front of those who prove their faith in you.”
Yours faithfully.
Material 4: The Function Head’s statement
In an interview with E&Y’s forensic team, one of the functional heads made a statement to the question “whether the information of a potential breach to the trading servers from multiple unknown IP Addresses was brought to the notice of the CEO of NSE?”
Statement: “All relevant information is brought to the notice of the CEO either verbally or via a mail to the top management team collectively.”
Research is Key!!!
Good luck, See you tomorrow!

The Twat Who Tweets
Tumblr media
The Reality:
In April 2022, the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, bought 9.1% of the equity in Twitter Inc., which is the world’s biggest microblogging social media network. The deal would allow the world’s richest man to exercise significant influence over a company which majorly swayed public opinion across the globe, although he had ridiculed the platform on several occasions in the past. In order to limit Musk from acquiring additional ownership in the company, the Twitter Board proposed to him to join them as a Director, due to which he couldn’t purchase more than 15% of the social media giant. Musk agreed to do so, until he didn’t, when Jack Dorsey declined his offer to remain on the company’s Board. Musk, instead, approached multiple banks, the most prominent of them being Morgan Stanley, and made an offer to acquire Twitter and take it private for close to USD 44 billion. While the Twitter Board, led by CEO Parag Agarwal, initially refused to accept the deal and incorporated a poison pill strategy to increase the acquisition deal’s bid price, it eventually accepted the deal at its original value, with the acquisition set to be completed after six months. However, a few weeks later, Elon Musk, on Twitter, stated that the deal would be delayed (and later, cancelled) because of false numbers being presented to him on the percentage of bot accounts on the platform. On the grounds of non-disclosure and manipulation of material information, Elon Musk called the deal off. Twitter then approached the Delaware Court of Chancery to force him to honour the acquisition or pay the hefty termination fee of USD 1 billion, in addition to other compensations. Recently, Elon issued another notice to the outgoing Twitter Board to terminate deal, as the company paid USD 7.75 million as severance fee to whistleblowing employee, Peiter Zatko, who is scheduled to testify in the US Senate over the lax security and community policies of the media platform.
Modifications Made to Reality for the Purpose of the Round:
• Tesla, instead of Elon Musk, has initiated the acquisition of Twitter Inc.
• A poison pill strategy has not yet been announced by the Twitter Board of Directors.
• The Board has disagreed to accept Tesla’s acquisition deal.
• Tesla, instead, has decided to move in for a hostile takeover of Twitter.
• The two parties are fighting for the control of the company, despite complete information of bot accounts being known to both sides.
What is a Hostile Takeover:
A hostile takeover occurs when a company (the acquirer) sets to acquire another company (the target) without the agreement of the Board of Directors of the target company. A hostile takeover can occur in two ways: the company may submit a direct offer to the shareholders to get the required stake while bypassing the management of the target company (tender offer) or may systematically replace the members of the management of the target (proxy war).
Task at Hand:
You, as the representatives of either Tesla or Twitter, are required to fight out the hostile takeover attempt and achieve the objectives of your company. Your task is to present to the shareholders of Twitter Inc. to convince them to side with you in this takeover attempt.
Deliverables as the Representatives of Tesla:
i) Rationale behind the Proposed Acquisition
ii) Strategies to Convince Financial Backers of the Deal
iii) Defence Strategies (given the Number of Bot Accounts, presented to Tesla Shareholders)
iv) Tender Offer to Twitter Shareholders
v) Business Integration Strategies (how Twitter’s business could be changed to integrate it into Tesla’s strategic goals)
vi) PR Strategies for the New Twitter
vii) Video Statement from the Tesla CEO appealing to Twitter Shareholders (2 mins)
viii) Press Release
Deliverables as the Representatives of Twitter:
i) Rationale to Reject the Acquisition Offer
ii) Financial Strategies to Prevent the Takeover
iii) Defence Strategies (regarding the Bot Accounts, to the Twitter Shareholders)
iv) Strategies to Address Bot Accounts
v) Proposed Future for Twitter
vi) PR Strategies
vii) Video Statement from the Twitter CEO addressing Shareholders (2 mins)
viii) Press Release
Odd Number Teams (1,3,5,7,9) shall be representing Tesla and Even Number Teams (2,4,6,8,10) shall be representing Twitter (Allocated team numbers and not your ECO numbers).
You are required to email your reports to [email protected] by 8 AM tomorrow.
Contact Anmol Betala (+91 63624 21887) or Dhiti M (+91 9448290096) in case of any doubts regarding the round!

Go Banaanaaa!
Tumblr media
Recently, a public school in Southern Philadelphia named Abbott Elementary has been going through difficult times. The school lacks supplies, students don't have rugs to lay on, the lunch ladies serve distinct food items, there's electricity havocs and attrition.
However, the Despicable Me franchise has changed the dimensions of problems there. Despicable Me is a computer-animated media franchise centering on Gru, a reformed super-villain and his yellow-colored Minions. Due to this spread, students below the age of 8 no longer converse in English and only speak in Minion Language. They often wear yellow clothes and blue overalls, stand in queues and yell "Banana TATATA BALA TU. Gelato!!"
The students have lost conversational skills and refuse to read English literature. The root cause is unknown but what is known crystal clear is that Minion Language is here to stay.
You are the Chief Strategic Officer of Abbot Elementary and have been tasked to resolve this. You need to come up with :
• Strategies to ensure students speak in a civilised manner again. • Feasible analysis of an alternative language (that you may or may not have created) to help the young minds • Strategies to help school combat internal problems • Creatives to suppress Minion Language / encourage your language.

Prepare a PPT of not more than 5 slides and submit it on [email protected] before 2:50 PM.

FUGEEtives in their own Homes
Tumblr media
We are on-board to discuss the worst humanitarian crises of our time. The Syrian Civil War is an ongoing violent conflict in Syria between pro-democratic insurgents and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's long-standing dynastic regime. Since 2011, over half of Syria’s pre-war population of over 22 million has been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and opportunity, many of them more than once. Families still living in Syria, are struggling to survive and meet their basic needs. A total of 13.7 million people need humanitarian assistance, including 6.7 million who are internally displaced.
As the crisis enters its tenth year with no end in sight, millions of Syrians continue to suffer while grappling with the added threat of COVID‑19. Every day, a lack of food and water and limited access to health services put millions of lives at risk.
A timeline of events in Syria:
March 2011: Anti-government demonstrations begin as part of the Arab Spring.
July 2011: The conflict is declared a civil war as violence becomes widespread.
July 2012: Zaatari Refugee Camp is opened in Jordan and hosts 120,000 refugees in its first year.
March 2013: The number of registered Syrian refugees reaches 1 million.
July 2014: The U.N. Security Council adopts a resolution authorizing the delivery of cross-border aid into Syria.
September 2015: Conflict intensifies as outside parties become involved. A large number of Syrian refugees arrive in Europe, and Mercy Corps expands its response.
July 2016: The battle for Aleppo, Syria’s largest city begins and lasts through August, displacing thousands.
July 2017: The number of registered Syrian refugees surpasses 5 million.
December 2019: Renewed airstrikes and bombings begin in Northwest Syria and force 961,000 people to flee over the span of three months — the largest displacement since the beginning of the conflict.
July 2020: The cross-border resolution is further curtailed, resulting in the closure of one of two remaining official border crossings used to deliver humanitarian aid.
Address the refugee crisis including the following talking points as deliverables:
Plan of action to for the internally displaced in Syria (open-ended)
Plan of  action for overthrowing the current Syrian President and the Syrian Arab Army (SAA)
Documentation and identification of refugees in Turkey
Economic and social integration of the refugees in Turkey
Education, nutrition and healthcare facilities and infrastructure in Turkish refugee camps in Turkey
Congestion of Turkish cities and camps and lost opportunities for Turkish citizens
Submit a report not exceeding 12 pages and a PPT of not more than 7 slides
For doubts, contact Dhiti: 9448290096
