Why do people need subtitles to watch a show in English? I don't get it. What is wrong with the ears of young people?

#Non native speaker #Because sometimes the characters just speak too fast or have too thick accent #Plus I know how to write/read more words than pronounce them #So subtitles are kinda like a cheat sheet #Nowadays I don't need them as much #But I still prefer having them #Heck #If the English show has an options of having my native language as subtitles or in English #I will definitelly choose the English one #Because sometimes translations are just... bad #One line I can remember was roughly #'We don't need a leader who ditches us on the first chance he gets' #And it is then tranlated as #'We don't need a leader who dissapears like fart to Sahara desert' #Which... to be fair... IS an actual idiom #But by the gods #seeing that in subtitles while hearing the first one broke my brain 🤣🤣🤣

as a knitter, you start to notice how rare it is for characters in tv shows and movies to knit correctly. from worst to best, it ranges from:

- laughably incorrect, just flinging yarn around

- knitting the most basic scarf incredibly slowly because the actor Learned How To Do It For The Role

- old lady actresses casually knitting an intricate lace pattern while doing a monologue

- gromit from wallace and gromit
