Friendly reminder, Harry never sang Louis' part during Story of My Life live solo. People say it has nothing to do with Lou, but it absolutely does. Z's pre-chorus is the exact same- and he sang that. Considering it was a pattern, never Louis' part, and he flashed blue lights and occasionally blew kisses, it is most definitely everything to do with Louis.

Adding onto this, Harry has always been (wrongly) seen and pushed as a womaniser. Him saying “And if you’re looking for someone to write your breakup songs about,” is definitely sarcastic, but also, might not have to do with Taylor SPECIFICALLY. Since they push Harry as this manwhore basically, that also comes with “the heartthrob,” and “the boy that can break your heart.” So, of course he’s going have to date high profile people for stunts and promo, so he’s kind of leaping off of that point and sarcastically saying “well, I’m perfect for that!” as in he was initially always the target, and how he always seemed like the “perfect” boy that every girl wanted. So, he’s basically saying that what you see on the outside is in no true reflection of his actual character, same with Louis. They both dealt with the same kind of shit (just not exact) but it was enough to know the experience together and write about it together. But, with Harry and Louis also hinting at the fact that they’re together instead of all the girl rumours, it just makes it so much more powerful. This is Harry and Louis saying, together, “say what you want about us. Treat us like shit. Ruin our images.” and basically saying that they’re together and that doesn’t change a single thing. This song is a stab to every single person who ever doubted them, who believes the narratives that they’re manwhores, and them saying “At this point, let’s just go with it. This is our life now.” Of course they want to be out, of course, but they had to make do with what they had. They had each other. So they’re going to rip out stupid ass people’s throats with their song writing power under a song that, to the average listener, would just simply be about a girl they like. And I LOVE that. This song has big “Say what the fuck you want, but we WILL run away together and live the life of our dreams” energy and I’m here for it. :)

I feel awful for the people who don’t realise that Perfect is literally a lyrical fucking masterpiece of a song.

Do you not realise how sarcastic and petty it is? How fucking SMART Harry and Louis are?

They’re literally using this song in the verses and bridge (the OUTSIDES of the song) to show how they’re portrayed as womanisers, clubbers, and the ‘reference’ to Taylor. (I love Taylor pls don’t think I don’t, just Haylor was stunt as hell)

They’re singing on the OUTSIDES of the song sarcastic versions of WHAT THE MEDIA shows us.

The inside of the song, the pre-chorus & chorus, is what the song is ACTUALLY about. The inside is something we never get to see.

But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms / And if you like having secret little rendezvous / If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn’t do + the chorus.

The pre-chorus and chorus is literally about how Harry and Louis are portrayed vs the love they share TOGETHER. It’s upbeat and poppy, the way they feel together. They have to meet secretly, they have their own places, they meet somewhere nobody can find them. They have a hidden love, the meaning of this song is hidden in the middle of it.

The bridge. Oh, that sarcastic-ass bridge.

What’s with a pang of sadness in a song about doing everything you wanna do with your lover?

For the effect. The Taylor Swift reference. The SARCASTIC reference.

(Not to mention, Harry could also mean “baby, I’m perfect,” sarcastically too. Basically- “If you want to tell the world that I have sex with every woman I’m with, cool, say that. I’m a ‘perfect’ target for that.”)

Bottom line, Perfect is a song sarcastically showcasing and featuring the guys ‘owning’ what we see in the public in the verses, which are on the outsides of a song. The bearding, the tabloids, the rumours, the lies. Those articles only scratch the surface of H&L, only giving an outside (and incorrect) view of them. The center of the song, the inside, the pre/chorus, is what actually is happening- what Louis and Harry are really like. (what you would know if you knew them. “come on, when you know, you know,” 😏)
