Whispering Shouting Touching Passing is a project devised by the art, design, and media arts PhD community at Sheffield Hallam University. This sound piece features some of the students involved in the project briefly discussing their approaches, their research and events at S1 Artspace, including exhibitions and workshops.
Through events across the summer, creative practice researchers invite you to be participant, collaborator, co-creator, sharer, listener, or viewer.
The last two years have disrupted and questioned many conventional modes of art and design presentation, meaning that all producers, from individual practitioners to the largest of institutions, need to think imaginatively and experimentally about making audiences and encounters, with particular attention paid to physical and cultural barriers to access and participation that may be made without thinking. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– The universal requirement of a PhD thesis is to ‘contribute to knowledge’ in an academic field. In reality, doctoral research has a life much wider than this, often weaving through publics, communities and localities, and multiple academic fields. This is particularly the case for the creative practice PhD with its combined worlds of artistic practice, art education, and diverse modes of writing. Whispering celebrates this and encourages us to think further about our range and quality of research transmission. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Our project uses S1 Artspace as a resource and base, employing processes that merge the studio space and online space, and include talks, face to face and online workshops, sound, discussions, live works, and exhibition.
All events are listed here, with design by Layla Gharib: whisperingshouting.tumblr.com/
