I just got back from two weeks in Greece, including a week taking a class with the amazing bookbinder Dimitris Koutsipetsidis in Athens. I can't recommend his class enough. I went with three other members of Renegade, and it was probably the best vacation I've ever taken.
We had a day learning how to make our own brass tools, and then followed that up with a six day course working on a single bind. We covered sewing on recessed cords, rounding and backing, endbands, headcaps, paring leather, casing in, paper onlays, and blind and foil tooling--and then finished with a lesson about how to choose leather for future projects. (I ended up buying a lot of leather...)
For my book, I bound The Mabinogion, a collection of Welsh medieval legends that I read my very first year of undergrad. Some of the stories are known as the "Four Branches of the Mabinogi" which is what inspired the cover design.

I wanted to test out making bookcloth on a project that didn’t mean as much before the one I really want to make, so I printed out this octavo. I think it came out great!
The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman - it’s one of my favorite short stories and I read it in my gothic fiction class in high school.
And yes, weeding that was a bitch, but oh so worth it.
I worked with artemisdragcn on this collab and I’m so fucking proud of this bind but also LOOK AT HER ARTWORK ON THE DUSTY?!! It’s insanely beautiful.
Thanks to @the-sinking-ship for writing this badass fic (This Harry??? This Draco?? I wanna be a sandwich between them).
I've been reading a lot of Rusty Quill Gaming fanfiction lately, and @knifemartin's series Due North is one of my favorites and immediately climbed to the top of my to-bind list. I love its explorations of grief, hurt, comfort, and hope, and it really made me love Carter as a character so it will always have a special place in my heart.
This was the first bind that I made after the Rengade server's February bookbinding event, Binderary. I'd attended a ton of workshops and subsequently bought a bunch of new tools and materials, and I got to use all of them and more on this book! Of particular note are the edges, which mark my first time chisel trimming a book and painting the trimmed edges; the endbands, which are my first go at double-core style sewn endbands; and the title page, which includes my first time using vellum in a bind as well as a sample of my first batch of hand-marbled papers. This book is also my first that uses short-grain paper, and I'm delighted at the feel of it and how well it drapes!
Overall, I'm absolutely thrilled with how this book turned out, and I can't wait to finish my own copy and add it to my shelf 💜
wouldn't it be nice by @judesstfrancis (Magnus Archives, 61k), casebound at folio size! Bound for Manda @pleasantboatpress as part of the Autumn Down-Under ficbinding exchange. I had a lot of fun typesetting this - formatting the text message conversations, the chapter titles pages, the recipe at the end (which I included, of course!).
Tried something fun with the cover, layering velum over golden-patterened textured paper for a cool subtle background effect. I love my inset cutouts! Painted edges, because I wanted the book to have a warm, cozy feel. Shiny paper for the cover, because.. I enjoy shiny books.
.....There's no real supernatural or spooky themes going on in this AU, but I had the eye-shaped bookmark charm on hand anyway and just couldn't help myself.
Another bind done for an exchange! This one was a private exchange, so I received my book back from the person I sent it to.
Black Butterflies and Deja Vu by starkentrprises and whsikeyandsparks is a great omegaverse starker fic with first grade teacher Peter Parker dealing with his favorite students father, Tony Stark.
The moodboard was made by me, as well!
I designed the dust jacket to look like Peter’s teacher planner and printed it on 8.5x14 paper since this is a quarto. The case is meant to look like a composition notebook.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot, and have officially decided that I’m open to discussing commissions on non-fanworks for bookbinding. If you’re interested in having your original work hand bound, or a re-bind, send me a message.
this took THREE MONTHS for NO REASON at ALL and i love it so much, totally worth it
I bound the absolutely fantastic fic with great power comes… a bunch of weird shit by the one and only @c--and--b!
because of my own idiocy, this bind took me the entirety of 2024 so far because I originally made the boards too small and had to take them off, but since they were sewn on, it tore the whole book apart and I had to do some SERIOUS surgery. But it's okay because between tearing the cover off and making a new one, I found cool spider-web paper and this cover is WAY cooler than the original one. Also I attempted chisel-trimming the fore-edge for the first time and it went well!
Unfortunately the spine is slightly crooked since I left it in the press tilted by accident, but it's not that bad. Also please ignore the fact that the spider-web on the first page doesn't go all the way in to the center, my printer is Evil and Hates Me.
I spent ages on a title for the cover but decided to leave it blank because I didn't want to cover up the paper. Overall I'm super happy with it!!!
Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, it is up to I, the only fucking cishet on tumblr, to drag this out to a wider audience.

We need to show these higher ups how much we truly value them.
A dos-Ã -dos binding of Lawn Boy and Dick in a Can by beebee_kate. These are two Reylo modern AU textfics full of irreverent joy. Two legal quarto sized books sharing the same back cover.
This was my first ever dos-Ã -dos and I figured I might as well go as weird as possible with these two fics. This was also my first competition entry ever, to the reddit r/bookbinding contest!
