Every time I advocate for voting people are like "no you shouldn't vote! Read this literature, it'll totally change the way you view voting!" And every single time it's the same fucking "you shouldn't vote because both parties are exactly the same so it won't make a difference who wins" bullshit wrapped up in some fancy language

I just realized the fundamental disconnect for people who think they can "boycott" voting:

People who threaten to withhold their vote are thinking of the government like a business. If you don't like what a business is doing, you can refuse to shop there, and that hurts them.

But your government is not a business, no matter how much the GOP tries to pretend it is, and refusing to participate doesn't hurt it. If you refuse to vote, you still have to live under that government. I know we're all fundamentally broken by late-stage capitalism, but you get that you can't "Well, you just lost a customer" this one, right? YOU AREN'T A CUSTOMER.

Refusing to vote isn't like refusing to buy McDonald's. It's like walking into a McDonald's, handing the cashier $20 (because you still gotta pay taxes whether you vote or not), and saying "Surprise me."

(Oh and during this particular trip, one of the two McDonald's options is maybe not your favorite food, and the other is deadly poison.)

i think we should remind musicians they can absolutely make up little stories for their songs btw. it doesn’t have to be about them at all. you can invent a guy and put him in situations to music. time honoured tradition in fact.

ppl really need to learn about the concept of de-gendering, purposefully calling someone who uses gendered pronouns "they/them" is de-gendering, saying you cant be both mlm and wlw but have to be nblm and nblw is de-gendering, saying you can't be a lesbian if you're a bigender boy+girl because you're part boy so you have to call yourself "trixic" or some other gender-neutral label is de-gendering, treating nonbinary people who are binary genders as if they arent their genders but are some third identity is de-gendering, saying bigender and genderfluid people arent actually their genders but are just "bigender" and "genderfluid" or just "aligned with masculinity and/or femininity" is de-gendering
