one thing ive noticed about total drama is that women just arent allowed to look as strong as they are

like with male characters theyre allowed be muscular but with female characters that are shown to be pretty freaking strong (maybe even stronger than male characters who look stronger) like eva or sierra or jo they just barely have any muscles lmao

like with jo its debatable but with eva and sierra they show like multiple times how strong they are but nooooo female characters cant have muscles women dont have muscles!!! /s

also most people tend to not notice the fact sierra is actually pretty strong and talented in canon unfortunately the show decided to make her so creepy that nobody really acknowledges it which like is pretty fair but still is disappointing to see as a sierra fan lol

which also seems to play into the fact that total drama also barely seems to have a variety of body types when it comes to female characters like male characters have so much variety when it comes to their body types but the female characters barely ever strive away from skinny and when they are plus sized they usually have a bad case of "chest and ass that is way too big for that small of a waist" syndrome like ugh

like the only fat female characters who dont have that problem off the top of my head are like sadie and sugar and thats it lmao

but also they seem to actually start to improve on this in the reboot like with millie and emma but only really for fat girl rep and not muscular girl rep cause axel still does not look as strong as she is 💀

if freshtv werent cowards they would make her look as strong as caleb

anyways rant over give these girls some variety lol

ive thought about genderbent versions of them before but jo is always especially hard because her whole character kind of relies on her being a woman. idk if she were a guy i think thatd just make her the embodiment of toxic masculinity,, joes appearance doesnt change much, i guess skinnier and lankier w neck length hair so lightning mistakes him for a girl.

i couldnt decide on bricks name. ive seen brie and brooke as other options and i rlly like brooke but thats also what i go by lmao so it feels weird

brie is incredibly buff and stronger than joe. joe is mad about that. im not very good at drawing muscles sry

personally if jo were a guy i think id hate him lol. she goes from tomboy w internalized misogyny to lowkey a misogynistic dickhead and i dont think i like that, but its interesting to think about how different his story would be.

i think if jo were a joe people would be more sympathetic to him tbh. which really sucks. hed be a man insecure in his masculinity who takes it out on the other women around him, blehhh

and i say people would be more sympathetic because everyone feels bad for brick "aww hes a guy that likes fashion and is embarrassed about it poor guy" (personally i dont even think his interest in fashion is even that deep as the fandom makes it out to be,,,). joe would be a man who secretly wants to enjoy feminine things without judgement and everyone would sympathize with him.

#tbh that’s the hard thing about gender swapping them #their characters r built completely up on their respective gender stereotypes #but Jo I would say more so #it was pretty important (even if the writers didn’t follow through completely) that Jo was a masculine woman struggling with her self image #in a cast full of hyper feminine women #especially back in 2013 #also ppl would 100% be more sympathetic to her if she was a man
