Okay so since Miss P and Miss Cuckoo (I’ll just write Miss C) are now living together, here are some headcanons: 

At first, everyone was surprised at how easily Miss Cuckoo was able to find her way in Miss P’s house, having not seen it before. They sometimes spotted her standing in front of a painting or admiring a particular ornament, muttering about how it was “even more beautiful than what she’d imagined.” Turns out Miss P talked about her house (and children) so often in her letters to Miss Cuckoo over the decades that Miss C, in an attempt to imagine where her best friend was living, learnt and remembered ever detail Miss P told her, and even tried to draw a replica of the house. A few days after moving in, she finally, with uncharacteristic shyness, showed the drawing to Miss P, who kissed her fondly on the cheek and hung the lovely painting in the living-room.

Initially, Miss C was a bit awkward around the children. Having lost her wards during the loop raids, she was reluctant to let herself grow attached to them, fearing she would somehow lose them too. Instead, she tried to give all her attention to the ymbrynes-in-training. Then, about two weeks after moving in, Claire went to see her with big, watery eyes, asking if they’d done something wrong and why she didn’t like them. “Now you’re our mother too,” Claire told her, wrapping her arms around her waist. After that, Miss Cuckoo finally let her affection show freely. 

Miss Cuckoo took it upon herself to get Miss Peregrine to stop smoking, much to Miss P’s dismay. This once led to an argument, which ended with Miss Cuckoo screaming at Miss P that she didn’t want to lose her. “Smoking is bad for your lungs,” she added more quietly, a tad tearful. Miss P wordlessly embraced her tight, and though she didn’t say anything, she stopped smoking, only putting an unlit pipe in her mouth from time to time out of habit. Listening to Miss C’s advice, she started singing and humming during stressful times instead of smoking.

Both ymbrynes are plagued by nightmares. Miss Peregrine dreams of her brothers, and Miss Cuckoo dreams of her wards’ deaths over and over again. They can often be found huddled together on a couch in the dead of night, murmuring to each other to soothe their fears, foreheads touching lightly. They have adjacent rooms, so if one of them has nightmares, the other can reach her quickly. 

Miss Peregrine finds it extremely comforting to have another adult in the loop. She feels better and calmer now that all the responsibility doesn’t rest upon her shoulders. Once the children and ymbrynes-in-training go to bed, they usually settle in the kitchen, chatting over a cup of tea, offering each other reassurance and, if needed, a shoulder to cry on.

The children warmed up to Miss C extremely quickly. The ymbryne especially gets along well with Horace, who shares her love for fashion. She even convinced him to trade some of his classical clothing for bolder pieces of her own creation.

The two ymbrynes enjoy taking peaceful walks around the garden, arm in arm. Fiona once used her powers to make red roses sprout out whenever the two women walked together, until they finally got the hint and simultaneously bent down to pick some of the flowers and offering them to each other, looking vaguely embarrassed. 

True to himself, Enoch never fails to sing “Miss P and Miss C, sittin’ in a tree...y-m-b-r-y-n-e!” whenever he sees them perched together in a tree. 

Miss Cuckoo brings out Miss Peregrine’s bolder side. After some coaxing, Miss P accepted to trade some of her black mourning dresses for more joyful shades, going as far as wearing one of Miss Cuckoo’s dresses: a striking gown of royal blue skirts and golden corset. When she appeared wearing that dress, Miss Cuckoo couldn’t stop gaping at her, blushing deeply. Taking Miss P by the hand, she led her to the garden, where they waltzed together while the children played music and the young ymbrynes sang, and Miss P tucked a flower behind Miss Cuckoo’s ear, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek

The Desolations Of Devil’s Acre Thoughts & Feelings

HUGE SPOILERS FOR DESOLATIONS, PLEASE DON’T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK  

 Alright, here we go, I have a lot of things to scream about. Starting with: 

V. My poor V. I hoped she would somehow be alive but she turned out to be so. very. dead. My heart broke for Noor. And my heart broke even more during the dead-rising scene when V called Noor “baby” and that poor girl had to sit on her dead mother’s lap…

 Things I loved: 

I loved Miss Hawksbill and her failed pep talk 

Miss P. Just Miss P.

The paragraph where Jacob explains how much he loves Miss P made me cry, it was the most adorable thing ever 

I loved how present the ymbrynes were in this one. Especially Miss Cuckoo. I adore Miss Cuckoo 

The burgeoning relationship between Horace and Julius made me so very happy, but I wish we saw more of them 

HORATIO. I never thought I could like a wight so much  

The last chapter was PERFECTION. I was expecting them to go back to Cairnholm, and it was even better than what I’ve imagined. I’m so glad Miss P will not be the only adult in the loop anymore, she must’ve been lonely all those years and having Miss Cuckoo there is just fantastic. 

SOMEONE FINALLY SLAPPED CAUL. THANK YOU, EMMA 

 Now, things that didn’t turn out quite as expected: 

The seven emancipators thing was confusing. I expected either characters we already knew (Miss P, perhaps Emma) to be the emancipators along Noor, but turns out the 7 of them aren’t even needed, and everyone aside Noor is pretty much clueless 

I’m a bit (okay, a lot) disappointed in how Caul was handled. I feel like he was just a shell of himself, reduced to an insane person. Granted, Caul has always been mad, but compared to how he was in LoS, he completely lost it. Can we take a moment to talk about the “jeepers creepers” scene?? Also, he seems way too powerful. I wish he’d have spent more time in his “human” form. I still found his character super entertaining, but I’m sad that he was reduced to a mad guy when he could’ve been much more

Myron. After all that foreshadowing, I thought Myron would be back. Seeing him barely alive, attached to this brother was just heartbreaking. He deserved to be back as his own person, not as a struggling ghost linked to Caul  

Speaking of the Bentham siblings, my biggest disappointment is that none of them talked with each other. I was looking forward to their reunion, but Caul and Alma didn’t exchange a word, and Myron only spoke to Jacob 

The final battle with Caul felt slightly odd. And for some weird reason Caul’s death made me emotional… Somehow this book made me sympathize with Caul instead of making me hate him 

I’m glad that Sharon didn’t betray Jacob and co. but his motives were never explained, along with the whole “ymbryne matriarchy should be abolished” thing

Overall thoughts: I loved this book, and I’m still trying to digest everything that happened in it. I think my top 1 remains TCoTB, followed in no particular order by TDoDA and LoS

About Francesca (TCOTB spoiler)

I know I've said a few times that Francesca (the ymbryne-in-training) might betray the ymbrynes and side with Caul, but I never paid attention to what kind of bird she is. I just checked, and she's a bittern, and turns out bitterns are actually considered to be secretive birds. Now I'm wondering if that's some kind of foreshadowing or not

The Desolations Of Devil’s Acre Theories

With only two weeks left before the release of TDoDA, here is my theories/things I would like to see post

Things I would like to see (I have a lot of things on my mind but I’ll keep this super short)

Miss P interacting with Caul (and Myron if he comes back), they barely even talked in LoS and I want to see more of their rivalry  

More ymbrynes, especially morally gray ones. With the recent controversies surrounding them, I’m wondering if some of them (especially the ymbrynes-in-training) might turn against the older ymbrynes and attempt joining Caul 

Same thing for wights, I feel like some wight just stick with Caul because they have nowhere else to go. Perhaps we’ll finally meet some “decent” wights

V, just V. I refuse to believe she died that easily

Murnau. He's despicable but oddly entertaining, and now that Caul is back I want to see their dynamic

A happy ending, please. They've been through so much

Theories: 

Jacob will lose part of his peculiarity, at least temporarily. For those who have watched Ransom’s first livestream, he read the first paragraph of TDoDA (spoiler warning) which basically describes Jacob losing his soul. This, combined with the line in the book’s description “after a narrow getaway from a blood- thirsty hollow” could perhaps mean that Jacob lost some of his affinity with hollows

Miss Avocet could be a traitor. This one’s a bit far-fetched, but it seems weird that she knows about the prophecy, knows what it implies and still keeps quiet until TCoTB. And I still think that some of the ymbrynes in training might betray them

Miss P will be one of the emancipators

Myron's portraits are "magical" and will be used to bring him back. It seems pretty out-of-character that he would sacrifice himself without a backup plan. Perhaps those portraits work like his "shuttle" invention, and link him to his house, kinda like a blueprint of himself

(Spoiler from the livestream) Now that it's revealed that Sharon has multiple peculiarities (especially a navigational ability) I'm thinking perhaps he used his navigation-related peculiarity to locate Caul in AMoD (I'm talking about the part where Jacob has a nightmare, sees Caul and hears rats). I hope it was for a good purpose, or perhaps it was for a not-so-good one, but he might be super helpful in Desolations when it's time to track the other emancipators. Either way, I hope he doesn't become a villain

(Spoiler from the livestream) The sky funeral will be for V or Miss Avocet (for some reason I don't think she will survive this book) but I sincerely hope it's not for Miss P, that woman can't have suffered this much just to die. Besides, she had a pretty good opportunity to die in TCoTB (with the list of ingredients needed to bring back Caul) and since Ransom kept her alive, I'm hoping it was for her to have a happy ending

I don't know why, but I have this feeling that Emma might die... again, I hope not, but she might

Horatio (H's pet hollow, now a wight) will be back as a morally decent wight

Since Ransom said that a picture of Miss P's house was needed for this book, I'm assuming that they will either travel back to the past and navigate the Cairholm loop again, or it's a happy ending and the loop has been reconstructed and Miss P has moved back there

Okay so I had this random thought about Nim that made me super sad.

During his LoS instagram live, Ransom Riggs said that Myron basically threatened Reynaldo (who is almost like a son to Mother Dust) to force Mother Dust to obey him, which proves again that he's no saint.

In TCoTB, when Nim brings Jacob and co. to Myron's secret study, it's said that "he glanced up furtively, as if expecting to be slapped, then looked down again" and he flinches when Miss P touches his shoulder.

How exactly did Myron treat Nim?? Was he abusive??

Theory Time

With the 6th book's release date approaching, I thought I'd share some of my theories for The Desolations Of Devil's Acre (spoiler alert for TCoTB)

Don't hesitate to add your own theories!

Leo was willing to stop chasing Noor and agree with the ymbrynes so easily because Caul proposed him something better (since Caul can literally "talk" with anyone, he could have talked with him too)

Some of the wights might turn against Caul (I'm thinking about the ones captured in Hopewell, who Jacob described for the first time as looking uncharacteristically defeated)

Similarly, some ymbrynes might turn against the other ymbrynes and join Caul's forces, especially the ymbrynes in training and especially Francesca. She seems to know too much, and I think the Bentham brothers proved again and again that knowing too much ends up badly

V is actually alive (yes, wishful thinking, I know). I mean, she's a fierce hollow-hunter and an ymbryne. She must have some tricks up her sleeve

Speaking of V, she is called the "mother of storms." We literally saw that, but what if this was meant figuratively as well? She might be Noor's adoptive mother, but she's still her mother. Storms typically have lightening, and Noor controls light (which might look like lightening if she produces a huge amount of light like she did at the end of AMoD). What if the "storm" was also Noor? Perhaps it's a hint at the massive powers Noor will have to use along with the other emancipators to defeat Caul

We have already met all seven emancipators. Jacob is probably one of them, along with Miss P

Caul is not the only one who's back. Myron might be back, but the line "the old ones from their sleep are torn" makes me think that other ancient souls from the Library will be resuscitated too. And given how some of those souls were described in LoS, it's not going to be pretty

I've said it before, but I'm not fond of Sharon's little meetings. Sounds a lot like the beginnings of the Claywings. I don't really trust Sharon anymore. Bonus points for Jacob hearing sounds of "rats" when he dreamt of Caul in AMoD, and for both the recipe and the beetles being stolen from Myron's house by the wights (it's stated that Sharon knows the place better than Bentham himself, so perhaps he's the one who gave up the location of the recipe and the beetles)

This is getting way too long, I'll probably write the rest on another post.

I've just randomly thought about how bad the Bentham brothers are at naming things

Exhibit A, Myron: chooses the names "Panloopticon" and "P.T" (whatever P.T stands for), and for some reason both names give me circus vibes (not in a bad way, though)

Exhibit B, Jack: named himself "Caul". That's not even a name. Did he pick the name Paul and then went nope that's not unique enough and replaced the P with a C? Can we please get an explanation about that Mr. Riggs??

Now I want to see Alma naming something so see how that goes

TCoTB Random Thought #2 (spoiler alert!)

So, in the epilogue, it's written that the girl made "six calls, one after the other", to announce that "he's back". The thing is, there are 7 emancipators of Peculiardom, and we already have Noor so we have 6 left. Are the 6 phone calls linked to the remaining 6 emancipators? If so, that would probably mean that Jacob is not one of the emancipators...

TCoTB Random Thought #1 (spoiler alert)

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing fine!

I had a random thought about The Conference Of The Birds, something that's been bothering me since the first time I read the book (big spoiler ahead)

After Murnau basically cut out V's heart, he was described as holding "something small and dark". But the thing is... a heart isn't supposed to be small? Or dark? But we know that he took the heart, otherwise the resurrection thingy wouldn't have worked...

So, my thought is that perhaps ymbrynes come with two hearts, a small one corresponding to their bird form and a human heart (I mean, peculiars have two souls so why not two hearts?). Yes, I know that it's highly unlikely, but I want V to still be alive so bad that I'm making up weird theories 😂
