✍️ JOURNAL ENTRY #4:
As a Special Needs Educator in the making, I supported a candidate last election who is capable of serving, the one who is genuine enough and brave enough to serve and help our country. At this age, I use my freedom of speech using a social media platform. However, as I go back to the code of ethics, I realize there are limitations in using our freedom of speech and election proper in being a future educator. Government officials and employees are prohibited from engaging in any electioneering and partisan political activity, as stated in the Constitution, and following existing rules and regulations of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to ensure civil servants are focused on public service and shield them from the unpredictability of politics. DepEd Order No. 48, 2018 (Prohibition on Electioneering and Partisan Political Activity) and its accompanying CSC Resolution stress the lists of forbidden acts and excluded activities. So as an educator, I will exercise not being too talkative to the extent that when a student reads my posts on social media, it will bring the thought of “Bakit si Teacher, nagsasabi naman ng hate against a candidate, so pwede rin ako.”

✍️ JOURNAL ENTRY #5:
I aspire to be a teacher whose philosphy is "there is always room to grow." Also, my other teaching philosophy that "Inclusion is the solution". As mentioned in the 7th domain of the Philippines Professional Standards for Teachers, we are responsible for our growth and and development for lifelong learning. As I strive to be the best teacher that I can be, I am providing the best quality education for my students and the community that I am in. I want to be remembered as a teacher who is always giving her best to craft the best learning activities, instructional materials, discussions, and accomodations for my students. Also, I would like to be remembered as a teacher who is always open to constructive criticism because I acknowledge that I need it in order to become a better teacher.
I will towards this aspiration by of course, attending professional development programs such as seminars and trainings. Upon attending these programs, I will always listen carefully to the discussion and reflect on it. "How will these new knowledge and skills help me in my teaching career?' is the question that I would always ask myself whenever I gain new knowledge and skills. Another things that I can do to work towards these aspirations is to acknowledge that I will always be subject to improvement. With this mindset of mine, I am always open to new ideas in teaching strategies, assessment methods, learning activities, crafting activity sheets, accommodations and a lot more.

✍️ JOURNAL ENTRY #3: THE NEED TO UPHOLD THE LEGAL MANDATES
Each day, whenever parents bring their children to schools, they entrust educators and other educational administrators with their children 's protection, well-being, and development. Educators must follow ethical standards under codes of professional accountability established by local school boards and government education departments under the legislative responsibilities. The specifics vary, but many of these policies are based on the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and the Certifications Model Code of Ethics for Educators. Teachers who contravene the ethical guidelines may encounter a range of consequences, including the loss of their professional license, either partially or entirely.
As a Special Needs Educator in the making, I will ensure that the privacy of my students is secured. We all know that both state and federal regulations protect the confidentiality of educational records. Schools must obtain parental consent before disclosing student documents to anybody other than specified school authorities and anyone with an academic or constitutional need to receive the information. In my personal experience, teachers also discover information about me that is not in their records. For instance, students may communicate (or mistakenly expose) confidential facts about their backgrounds to me in the future. Of course, I have to follow ethical guidelines that often prohibit divulging any information on my students that I will discover in the employment unless the information is legally permitted or is essential for the student's education. Furthermore, data privacy is very significant not just for the teacher but also on the part of the student. As teachers, I always believe that we have to be role models and act with honor and dignity (stated in Professional Education Laws) to empower and promote a peaceful academic journey.
Another would be respecting student and teacher boundaries and the limitations on disciplinary measures. Ethical principles often encourage instructors to respect all students, regardless of age, sexuality, culture, or financial circumstances. For instance, students with severe Autism do not like to be touched. Of course, if they misbehave so that the class and classmates are affected, they are forced to be touched to practically eliminate the behavior if indicated on the child's IEP. Why am I sharing this? Because some parents might consider this as physical abuse to their child.
Moreover, as a professional teacher, I will use my knowledge and expertise in knowing my limitations and how to use various means to protect my dignity, professional license, and for the sake of the student. In that case, I can use the crafted IEP of the child, indicating that if he or she misbehaves that negatively affects the whole class, he or she will be forced to give appropriate disciplinary measures. Furthermore, teachers must discipline any learners who interrupt the classroom and risk other children to ensure a healthy and effective learning environment. However, state laws and restrictions constrain what educators may do to enforce such discipline. Most states prohibit spanking and other forms of physical discipline in schools, although a sizable minority still tolerate it. Nevertheless, in the case of students with special needs, physical punishments are restricted (even in a regular classroom setting) since they are very fragile, and misinterpretations might arise.
The bottom line, as future professionals, let us make sure that we provide safe, healthy, and quality education for every individual. Of course, most people would probably say that the primary obligation of an educator is to educate adequately. In addition to the essential work requirements (such as education and certifications), federal, state, and local education authorities establish criteria for delivering high-quality programming and maintaining that all learners have the potential to learn. That is why we have to teach and discipline our students so that our profession is protected as well as our students.

✍️ JOURNAL ENTRY #2 :MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Tumblr media
As an educator, I will be assisting learners who have an array of learning difficulties and obstacles and special needs, such as mental, emotional, and physical disabilities, as well as other domains that make learning complex. As a pre-service special needs educator, I will tailor instruction in topics such as reading, math, English, and writing to the needs of each pupil. Moreover, I will also engage communicatively, and comprehension approaches with special needs students. Furthermore, as a special education teacher, I must meet with teachers, parents, administrations, and psychologists to discuss the student and supervise teaching assistants who deal with special needs learners. In addition, I will enhance my skills and knowledge to provide a stimulating educational experience for students with special needs by being patient, inventive, and having practical interaction skills. Aside from these, I will expand and search for educational opportunities such as seminars, webinars, training, and conferences in order for me to competently teach reading, writing, and math, as well as communication and fundamental life skills to learners with special needs. Lastly, I will extend help as an advocate of my field of specialization as well as to foster inclusivity. Of course, as a teacher who is still a learner, I will encourage them to have discipline and stay resilient. For instance, Develop a sense of direction in their life, develop confidence in their ability, and create a solid relationship. Of course, my goal for them is to accept change and improve their problem-solving abilities since we all know that we are in a dynamic community and in the 21st century era. Moreover, striving for excellence and building a good study habit are my aspiration for learners. Learners should create and exceed goals to achieve excellence in their work. The pursuit of excellence entails seeking to be competent with the objective of consistently producing high-quality work. To attain greatness, we must devote time to practicing and learning new abilities. Furthermore, I believe that one of the most significant aspects of academic achievement is the development of solid study habits. Keep in mind that creating and keeping healthy study habits may boost our competence, confidence, and self-esteem. I want learners to adapt and strengthen their skills and mind and have a genuine and compassionate heart to learn in academic life and real life.
I always believe in the philosophy of John Locke and John Dewey that if we do and experience a specific situation or learnings, WE LEARN. In connection with my own philosophy as SPEDucator which is, "INCLUSION IS THE SOLUTION", As pre-service educators, we have to value and take opportunities, especially in this time of the pandemic. Sometimes, what we learn inside or in the virtual classroom is not sufficient to strengthen and develop our skills and individuality as educators. That is why the methods I will use to reach these goals, objectives, and aspirations, and I will attend different webinars/seminars, conferences, and training and make conversations with those experienced educators. Moreover, since I am in the field of special needs education, I will use my learnings and knowledge in researching to explore deeply in the field of academia and to extend help in the community. Furthermore, even though I am a working student and have limited sources of income, I will pursue a master's and doctorate. I believe that having these master's and doctorate degrees is not just for the sake of salary but for the education system and my future students. I believe that it is difficult to assess students' knowledge of complicated reasoning. The first step in measuring learning outcomes on any topic is to set the learning objectives for the learners. After determining the specific learning objectives, it will be much easier to select one or more assessment techniques suited for the purpose. For instance, after discussions, the teacher will use summative assessments for students, such as short quizzes. Also, at the end of the discussion, allow students to reflect. Practically, particular learners may not be able to verbalize what they have learned from a lesson right away, so instead of testing for it straight away in class, allow them time to ponder. Provide assignments for later that night that explicitly tests comprehension. Often, the extra time between lectures and when students sit down to do their homework is all that is required for the day's lesson to sink in fully.
Discipline is an essential behavior in life. "Discipline is the foundation to accomplishment," as the adage goes, yet there are numerous distractions in today's environment that might divert a student's attention away from his primary aim. Discipline in student life entails working honestly while adhering strictly to laws and regulations, cultural norms, and beliefs. Discipline is the source of many other qualities and characteristics. Discipline refers to the orderliness in one's life required for success. Students must value discipline in order to be productive all of the time. In the field of Special needs education, the inclusive education system here in the Philippines is the primary problem that students may encounter since the process of IEP in our Country is still generalized, unlike in other countries. Aside from that, special needs educators lack experience and training. To address these challenges, I will enhance and strengthen my skills to be part of an IEP team that will collaboratively and passionately assist in making IEPs for my future students. Aside from that, I will engage myself in technologies since most of my students need assistive technologies for proper accommodations.
When contemplating how to build teaching skills, it is helpful to evaluate the range of chances available as well as the variety of results that may be desired. Pre-service educators that are highly driven share the passion with the learners, which pushes students to succeed. I agree that as educators, we can stay motivated if we believe we are doing a good job: assisting students in learning correctly. Furthermore, I will continue to grow as a teacher by CONTINUE LEARNING and have the courage to EXPLORE the new modalities and changes as time passes by. The bottom line, we do not just focus on ourselves as educators. If we always choose to learn and share our experiences, we can make a difference and inspire students to also strive for the best, ALWAYS.

✍️ JOURNAL ENTRY #1
QUESTIONS:
Write a reflection on your choice of taking teaching as a profession, vocation and mission. How do you see yourself after learning these concepts? What characteristics do you want to possess that will qualify you to be an excellent teacher in the 21st century?
ANSWER:
I always believe that all educators are extraordinary teachers who can develop people's lives for the greater. Moreover, I agree that educators are every person's greatest inspiration. Since learners respond with a wide range of teachers throughout their educational endeavors, there will almost certainly be somebody who communicates with them. Perhaps when I was young, I prayed to God that my desired profession would meet my dreams and prayers to be blessed and contribute to the community. A vocation as an educator is more than just a profession. We must possess a sympathetic and compassionate heart. It is also a valuable career since it entails perseverance and commitment. Every teacher like us must have the fortitude to pursue what is appropriate for the sake of our learners, a genuine willingness to educate, even if it is tiring. As a future educator, my mission is to advocate for inclusion, diversity, and persons with disabilities. I believe that serving and expanding a genuine heart towards people, primarily through fulfilling God's purpose and calling, is a gratifying experience.
Moreover, after learning and understanding the concept in this course, I can fully and confidently apply this in the field of education. Furthermore, being passionate and knowledgeable, patient, mission and goal-oriented, media and technology literate are the characteristics I want to possess that will qualify me to be an excellent teacher in the 21st century. Furthermore, yes, I believe that teaching is a challenging career, but it is one in which we may have the most impact on the lives of others.
