Comic-Con International 2022
Back after 2 years, lots of changes...
Wow, finally back IRL to comic-con. lots of changes. Since the last in-person Comic-Con in 2019, I have lost my job recently, there was this thing called COVID-19 that started to happen at the end of 2019 but didn't really hit everyone until around March of 2020, which is still going with a new variant every few months, If we knew then what we know, right? Oh yeah my best friend/brother from another mother, passed away. Todd and I have been friends since 5th or 6th grade, so let's just say a really long time. had started going to Comic-Con with my wife and me since 2010, after I begged him to fly out to San Diego and just experience it once, if he didn't like it, at least he had the experience of going that one time. There was only one time he wasn't able to out which was when a family member had passed away just a week before the week of SDCC. so I guess he liked it. He worked for the News Paper in my hometown in New Mexico, so word got out that he's been going to this Huge Comic Convention. And everyone in town pretty much wanted him to bring something back for them, and wouldn't you know it! He would take at least 3 days during the convention to spend on the vendor floor trying to make sure everyone that asked, got what they wanted, he made a list, just so he could make sure he had everyone taken care of before he flew back home. He was one of those guys that made sure to take tons of pictures of all the cool happenings, that was Comic-Con and made sure to edit and upload them on his Facebook for all to see. I posted as well, but nearly as much as Todd. Todd was what I liked to say, "Hobbs Famous".
This will be the first time going back to SDCC without him coming down to stay with us at my wife and my's house. No picking Todd up at the airport, no smart-assed remarks the instant We see Him at the airport, no more driving straight to In-n-Out, or Phil's BBQ after he landed. Todd came out so often to visit he considered our house his California "vacation home" he had his own room and bathroom while he was here. Todd passed away on Halloween 2021, and yes I am still in grieving mode, I don't really talk too much about him to people in person, because it just makes me upset.
Todd died from cancer, not from COVID, like so many others had done since 2019, I honestly don't think he ever had it.
So yes, we are still going to SDCC, since we got our passes in 2019, it would be a waste if we didn't go. Yes, it will be completely different this year, the restaurant we would make it a tradition to go to at least once during the week of Comic-Con, close during the time gap, no sharing experiences, with my best friend, no more being able to call him when I have a question, get advice, or even to just say hey.
I miss you, Todd I most likely always will. but I will try to keep your tradition of posting pictures on Facebook so others can experience the awesomeness that was/is Comic-Con.

I lost one of my best friends today, She was so strong and determined her whole life, she was So loved by all whoever met her and who knew her. Cecilia (Mom) & I (Dad) had moved to San Diego just 2 years before we found you, You were so cute. The San Diego Humane Society told us you had just been brought in that week with your sister from El Centro, CA where someone found you guys on the side of the road. They named you Thelma & Your sister’s name was Louise. When we decided to just go and check out the animals in the shelter, we didn’t really know if we were ready for a new member of the family to come into our lives or not, but then I saw you through the window, & you saw me. You wanted me to come into your room and play, you looked so lonely and sad, but the door was locked, and so I looked for a worker & asked about you. They said your sister Louise had just been adopted, and there were already a few people looking at you to adopt you, a couple of them had already filled out paperwork to adopt you. So Your Mom & I decided to go have lunch and have a serious discussion about bringing you home, We decided if you were still there, it was meant to be. We went back to the shelter & sure enough you were still there, so We brought you home, and since they had just released Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith, We decided to name you after Queen Amidala herself, Padme. You were a handful being a 6 month old Black Lab, you had so much love & energy to give even then. I remember the time we had to go to work and you got so upset that we left you in our bedroom alone, that you decided to just dig a hole right through the middle of our bed! when we got home, there you were, laying in that hole, smiling & wagging that tail of yours, just happy to see us. When we started trading to potty train you, You would pee all over the carpet in the living room. The time you tried to scratch your way through the door when we left you home, you were indeed a mess. Then we decided to take you to Obedience school. You actually graduated top of Your class! We were so proud of you Padme. After about a year, Your mom decided You needed a companion to keep you company when we were away from home, that’s when we found Pancita, she was so small, you had started getting bigger. One time she took your bone, and jumped on top of Pancita and started yelling at her I guess letting her know you were the Alpha, but it was the one and only times anything that serious had happened with you two the whole time you were growing up together. As you got older, you got more mellow, you LOVED going to the Dog Park & Dog Beach, We would play fetch together or you would just hang out in the sun, soaking it up. You & Pancita became inseparable, even when you went to the vet you had to be placed together in the same kennel. I know Pancita noticed you hadn’t come back home after about a day or so, she start to wonder where you were, it was tough time for all of us indeed. How the Fuck do you explain to a dog what happened to someone she grew up with pretty much her whole life? You were only a year older than her. When you stopped eating almost 2 weeks before you passed away. I just figured it was because you just weren’t hungry that first night, after all, it’s happened before, but when you hadn’t eaten for the whole next day, or even the next, drinking lots and lots of water at least peeing a lots, We decided it was time to take you to the Dr., that Wednesday they kept you all day. When we picked you up, you were so happy to see us, and us You! But they had bad news, you were in kidney failure, good news was, it was caught early! We had a chance to reverse it! We were so happy! They then told us how much it was going to cost, and we panicked, First thing I did when we got home was started looking for any kind of help I could find to help us pay for the help you needed, in order to give you as much of a chance as we could for you, You know we will do anything and everything we can for You and Pancita, you are family anyway. We were able to help you get out of your possible kidney failure, but You still wouldn’t eat! It was so frustrating. I’m sorry I had to force that food down your throat with the turkey baster, but I think you knew why. You tried so hard to keep a good composure the whole time until you just couldn’t anymore. I knew the pain. You were experiencing had to be unbearable, I could see the desperation in your eyes, You were so strong Pad, I just wish you would have been able to just tell us where it hurts, what was wrong, etc. you always have been strong, physically and mentally, even though you are gone, you have given us so many great memories, and that just means you will never actually be gone. Your spirit will always be with us, your unconditional love, your acceptance, your companionship... You will always be in our lives from when we may look over and remember something you did, or find an old toy of yours, look at photosWe’ve taken and the short videos we’ve made... Thank you Padme for being you, We wouldn’t have had it any other way, just wish you didn’t have to go so fast. but I think even if you had lived forever it wouldn’t be long enough. Thank You, Padme Crawford - 2/18/05 - 8/3/17

Rephotographing Route 66: Animated GIFs Showing 1930-1970 Scenes Compared to Today
Route 66 is a famous highway that crosses the United States, connecting Santa Monica, California on the west with Chicago, Illinois toward the east. It was one of the original highways of the US Highway System.
The route is also the subject of a project by photographer Natalie Slater, titled “The Mother Road Revisited.” Slater found old photos of the route from decades ago and rephotographed them as they appear today.

Sometime in the near future I plan on driving the whole length of Route 66. I’ve driven portions of it here and there but never the whole length. I just need to come up with some new and creative idea that hasn’t been done before to photograph my journey.

House Republicans vote to ease firearm background checks
House Republicans Thursday voted to roll back a regulation that sought to prevent those with mental-health problems from purchasing guns
The rule was created by President Barack Obama in response to the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting in 2012
The rule forced the Social Security Administration to identify beneficiaries deemed incapable of managing their own finances, and add them to the national background check system that determines whether people are allowed to buy a gun.
Republicans said the bill unfairly targeted disabled people. Read more

Associating the entire religion of Islam with terrorism or oppression is narrow-minded and wrong. For centuries, Muslims around the world have been responsible for scientific discoveries, works of art, and major technological advancements. There is a great deal of diversity in the way Islam is practiced by the 1.6 billion Muslims around the world, it is a vastly complex and diverse religion. Read more
