A really random Batfamily HC I like to think about is Dick winning the Olympics a few years ago, never telling anyone, and all hell breaking loose when they find out.
Jason: You did not win gold in the Olympics.... Say sike, right now.
Dick: I'm not saying sike. I did win.
Tim: How? You're too famous, you'd be recognized!
Bruce: And more importantly, what about your secret identity?!
Dick: I wore a prosthetic nose, and entered under a fake name.
Stephanie: Do you have proof of that? And maybe a picture of that nose by any chance?
Dick: It was broadcast on television in over two hundred countries, I'm sure you could find it pretty easy.
Bruce: Back to the fake name-
Dick: It wasn't hard to make an alias, I just did what we do for undercover jobs.
Tim: You used my program without telling me!
Dick: I asked! You said I could.
Tim: I did? Ohhh...yeah, now that you mention it I think I vaguely remember you saying something about going to England and needing a new ID a few years ago.
Jason: You did all of that, just to...perform? Just...just because you wanted to?
Dick: ...Yeah, pretty much. I still have the medal sitting on a shelf in my apartment and a picture of me with some other competitors hanging on the wall.
Alfred: I for one, appreciated finally getting to see the Olympics from the front row. And in my own country, no less.
Bruce: What- what does that mean? Tell me you did not go with him to the Olympics...
Alfred: I was his accompaniment for the event. It was quite a good time.
Bruce: Dick...
Dick: What? He said he always wanted to go!

Caption: [A stitch with user @/sapphicyuji. The text on screen reads, " "you can't misgender cis people!", you have never had your gender questioned outside of your transness and it shows. sincerely, a trans poc".
I'm actually super glad we're having a conversation about this. The masculinization of black and brown women, because for years I felt like I endured this unique form of trauma until I realized other people went through the same thing too. And if there's one thing that I'd like to add to the conversation, there seems to be this misconception that this is something that starts at puberty. Like boys tell you you look like a man to hurt your feeling when that's so far from the case.
The first time I was purposefully misgendered was in kindergarten. I was constantly referred to by the masculine variant of my name, I was chased out of the women's restroom, and I had grown adults questioning what my biological sex was before I even knew what the difference was. And those behaviors persisted into adulthood because now if I present as anything less than 100% feminine, people will either compare me to men or animals.
And for myself and for many other brown and black women this is a life long act deliberately intended to humiliate, shame, and other us for the features we were naturally born with and I'm glad we're having a discussion on how harmful it actually is.]

sokka was the only kid in that show with social skills and a brain and he effortlessly charmed literally every. single. person. he met especially royalty no matter the age or nation this is why the writers had to nerf him and make him a non bender cause if he coulda bend anything the show woulda been called sokka and his good pal the avatar and its main conflicts would all be resolved by the third episode tops

Kudos to Taylor for releasing an album where one of the subjects is a terrible person, and she was in such a vulnerable state of being heartbroken and he took advantage of her in a way, and the ghosted her, and she was brave enough to tell us how she felt during that time about a man we all hate.
AND everyone is still shitting on TTPD, calling her out for writing about MH, Joe (and apparently his mental health? I didn’t notice that), Travis, and Kim K, saying she’s wrong for doing so? She’s voicing her feelings, and now you’re voicing yours. And if the case is she’s wrong for voicing her feelings, then you’re wrong for voicing yours. I can tell you something right now, I know for a damn fact that NONE of you would be able to release an album so vulnerable, so raw, so real. I’ve noticed how terrible some “swifties” are. I literally saw a comment from a “fan” that she should go back into hiding. Considering the context of why she did that, anyone who is saying this should be ashamed of yourself, because OBVIOUSLY you have no idea what it feels like to feel unwelcome somewhere you call home, and this goes out to the people who think she’s wrong for still writing about Kim K (which is ironic considering the songs whole message is “you thought that you could kill me, but all you did was make me feel properly again and rebuild myself back to me”).
I just wish you could all just go back and listen to TTPD again, without thinking of the subject matter, and just listen to the music. It literally took me until today to figure some of the subject matter. The album isn’t about what or who inspired it, it’s about Taylor being brave and giving us something she never even had to, but there was a time when everyone wanted the “Joe break up album”, and here you all are again, dissatisfied with what’s been given to you. It’s honestly so sad. I thought swifties supported her and each other, but obviously not, there’s only a few that actually do.

saw a tiktok of a mother taking her very tiny daughter to an art museum and she’s just walking around going “whoooa” “woooaah” to everything but then they got to a marble statue of a nude woman lying on her back and the girl points and goes “mommy🫵” and i just immediately welled up with tears and all the comments are just laughing about it and of course it’s funny but how are you not insanely moved by the way art connects everyone on earth from a centuries-old sculptor to a toddler in 2023

Ok this is genuinely not ok anymore, I understand people are upset but it is NEVER OKAY to bully and harass someone just bc u disagree with a decision they've made.
People have been flooding the comments of Ryan Bergara's wedding photos on Instagram with hate, booing both of them and telling him she's gonna leave him when he goes broke from his stupid business decision. ITS FINE TO NOT LIKE WATCHERTV. ITS FINE TO NOT SUBSCRIBE. but it's not ok to completely dehumanize, other, and harass them. I've seen people telling Shane and Ryan to kill themselves. That is Not Fucking Okay. They are STILL HUMAN BEINGS. NOT UNTOUCHABLE 1 PERCENTERS.
I know cyberbullying and harassment is normal these days but it's not fucking okay. Hate on them all you want, genuinely criticize their decision all you want, but don't go to all their socials and send them that hate. They're human beings with feelings, and you guys need to go touch some fucking grass.

what are my ttpd thoughts? no one’s asking but they are that
- the album makes so much more sense with the prologue but idk how i feel about an album needing a whole precursor because you didn’t explain urself well enough in the actual album
- i like it. i just like it i don’t LOVE it none of these songs i don’t think are entering my top ten they didn’t gag me entirely they exist to me and they’re good!
- the highs aren’t giving me as much serotonin as the midnights highs did (yoyok my love)
- but the highs ARE good this album does have hits (florida, the smallest man, how did it end are my holy trinity)
- i LOVE how did it end it’s so good actually it fucking eats and i love cassandra and the prophecy too the second side is better
- the lows. are something! they’re boring which makes them criminal in my mind (glaring at guilty as sin)
- travis songs…. no thanks ❤️
- the production isn’t productioning imo, cause you could play ANY of the midnights production and i’d be like yep that’s that song but i am struggling so bad with ttpd for that there’s not much uniqueness between songs to make them stand out on first listens to me
- olivia rodrigo is sharpening her pitchfork and i support her that was not a good look
- aaron dessner is a king
- jack anotoniff needs a long break and i think taylor might too!!! her best albums are from when she tries new shit like folklore and 1989 i think stagnancy is bad for her
- taylor NEEDS critics. that’s my conclusion actually like she needs someone to stand back and go hey this doesn’t work or this isn’t great because it’s not GOOD having yes men always it ruins perfection
- i love taylor swift’s music i find it relatable and sonically pleasing but i am capable (and a lot of fans are) of standing back and going hm. i don’t think this is her BEST work i think it’s in no way a bad album but it’s not her BEST to me and i am also capable of going hm.
- taylor swift is a billionaire white woman who surrounds herself with rich white women and that’s her life experience she is open to criticism for tjat and i am jarringly reminded of that sometimes because the only people i know who have been able to stomach dating a racist dickhead are white but her weird moments aren’t heinous enough for me to step back because she’s never pretended to be more than that and i can respect that over frauds
- i fucking hate the title track

To continue riffing on the marriage/tradition stuff because that’s one of the themes I’m obsessed with in her discography, it’s fascinating because it would be easy to reduce it to, “she’s adhering to patriarchal societal norms in chasing the traditional nuclear family and that’s why she throws herself into these relationships,” but it’s just so reductive to well, how human beings exist in the world. Just because it’s a societal pressure doesn’t mean some people don’t genuinely want to get married or have families.
Yes, she’s been singing about it right back to her first album when she as 16. Yes, her view on it has evolved, from marrying the sweet neighbor boy to the princess fairytale early on (debut/fearless), to the disillusionment that increasingly pushed it out of the narrative (speak now/red/1989), to slowly letting herself believe in forever again (rep), to seemingly actually committed (lover), to questioning what that means (folklore/evermore) to trying to reconcile what it means for her current life (midnights). Every relationship she experienced throughout those periods informed those views and how *she* pursued it.
I think what makes it so interesting on TTPD is that it is EVERYWHERE, as I mentioned in my previous post about it. And it’s unsettling because it’s not just in the setting we expect it to be — e.g. a long term partner she’d previously indicated she was ready to marry — but also in songs about a man who swooped in to save her when she was low only to break her apart, in thinly-veiled fantasies about strange bedfellow neighbours, another thinly-veiled story about marrying the person you want consequences be damned, in taunting your on again/off again partner in a bar (e.g. i want to smash your bike or be your wife).
And it’d be easy to chalk it up to, well she’s in her 30s and the clock is ticking, she’s just obsessive! And there’s a nugget there about women and their bodies and both the lauding and weaponization thereof and everything that personally I’m dying to talk about at some point. But when it comes down to it, I’m willing to bet that the reason why it’s everywhere is because THAT WAS HER LIFE. That was the plan she’d taken for granted for so long — and I don’t just mean in a general sense as a girl in the world — but in the very real, very tangible way she was living her life and in the circumstances that led to what would be written about in TTPD. By working out all these scenarios through her songs (and tbh in whatever she was doing IRL that inspired them), she was grappling with and grieving the loss of the life she thought was ahead of her. We’ve talked about how pervasive grief has been on her recent albums, in all kinds of forms, and I think this is kind of the culmination of all of those worries.
She’s not the girl with the paper ring and all’s well did not end well to end up with him. She’s not the girl who has his midnights after cleaning up bottles on New Year’s Day. She couldn’t give him her wild or a child because it wasn’t enough. She may have even been the self-fulfilling prophecy of the girl who is fucked in the head, but feels more like the one left out on the landing.
So in TTPD, she is all of these things. She’s the neglected wife whose husband cheats on her so she runs off with an old flame. She’s the one who gets the jewel on her ring finger and talks about babies because he says it’s love. She’s the woman whose partner once made a promise but never followed through. She’s the hell-raiser who follows love in a different kind of getaway car while the town calls her mad, consequences be damned, but joke’s on them because she gets the wedding in the end anyway. She’s the wife who feeds her cheating husband to the swamps of Florida. She gets swept off her feet by an old flame to run down the aisle. SHE’S the one who gets to decide if she’s gonna marry him or decimate him (be his wife or smash his bike). She’s the girl who didn’t become the wife while she watches the one that got away marry his. She’s the woman scorned who has to call the whole thing off. She’s the saucy girl who bets her new lover is gonna marry her for real. She’s sold off as chattel to the highest bidder in an arranged marriage. She’s the young girl starry-eyed with the dreams she grew up with only to have them go up in flames, leaving only her pen behind to turn it into art.
She navigates all these scenarios because in the end, she isn’t any of them and she is all of them. She’s mourning what she gave up, mourning what she’s already lost, mourning the time she feels she wasted and could have started over. She’s mourning any number of women she could have been if she’d just tried something else, but also mourning that ultimately much of this was out of her hands. She’s grappling with a past that can’t change and a future that doesn’t exist. Every one of these scenarios is a way her life could have gone with any number of different decisions, but in the end, none of that matters, because she is who she is and what happened happened.
Obviously there’s a lot more going on in the album; she’s not just processing the end of relationships, she’s processing her fame and career and health and harassment and trauma and struggles and misogyny and any number of things in frankly shocking ways. But, I think there’s also no denying that this very important thing — the step many young adults expect to take in their lives — precipitated a whole lot of what went on, and may have even had a domino effect on all the other issues explored. It’s raw and vulnerable and ugly and funny and human.
Anyway apparently I’m back and thinking.
