The Star remembers it all.

When Fury was Passion. When Curse was Faith. When Escape was Bravery. When Jealousy was Affection. When Despair was Hope. When Arrogance was Pride.

The star remembers it all in its twinkles.

When Fury was Passion– Junna got into this out of a genuine love for theatre (and specifically Shakespeare, it seems), and that’s been slowly corrupted into self-destructive fury for her apparent lack of natural talent.

When Curse was Faith– Futaba really believed in Kaoruko when they were little girls, as frustrating as she could be, but over time she ended up crushed under Kaoruko’s unwillingness to work to improve.

When Escape was Bravery– Kaoruko, in turn, was so ready to leave her home and her traditional dance background, not to try and get away from it but to expand her horizons and learn new things. She was so used to being the best around, though, that she collapsed into assuming she didn’t have to do any work, and then was so horrified at no longer being top dog that she wanted to run away….

When Jealousy was Affection– Mahiru’s adoration, not only for Karen but for ‘that sparkle’ as a whole, was once pure and happy, but became possessive. 

When Despair was Hope– Nana entered Seisho looking forward, trying to make a better life, after what little we’ve heard about her childhood (her telling Junna that ”that little girl [hiding in the corner after being told her voice was bad] was me once”) being rather dreadful, and at first she was having fun, learning that her new friends would be there for her like she was there for them, but she slid into desperation and fear, refusing to move forward, giving up on the rest of her life.

When Arrogance was Pride– Karen’s a pretty self-assured young lady most of the time, and she knew from youth that she and Hikari would starlight, would become theatre stars themselves, though she’s ended up throwing herself into this destructive war game in the course of auditions.

What I find really beautiful about this is how moving forward is bringing them back. Through duels since Hikari arrived– Hikari, light, the star– Kaoruko has pulled herself back from escape and become brave again, Futaba’s faith has been restored, Junna has regained her passion for rehearsal and trying again, Mahiru has given up her jealousy and just adores Karen (and Hikari) again.

Maybe they can bring Nana back her hope, too.

my revstarzine piece! both participating and modding was a wild ride but it was a great experience to have and learn from thank you to all the artists that participated and to everyone who supported the project!!

the funniest part of revue starlight imo is that nana is in the time loop for potentially decades and everyone immediately just moves on

Someone on discord pointed out earlier that prior to the OVAs, Hikari straight up had not said anyone’s name but Karen’s through the entire show.

Looks like the girls noticed that in-universe, too.
