This correction fascinated me. The quote on it’s own is what prompted me to choose this correction, “I have had some little experience of mankind, and human nature that you will allow—and I have always found that the simplest request [has more power to obtain what you] goes farther than the loudest command.”
It was curious that she chose to strike out the bit about power, and rather include the significance of the simple request. I wonder if this is important to determining Craft’s values. Maybe this was her interpretation of what the jailer was saying, instead of what his initial meaning may have been. I believe it mirrors her view of the world, and how power is not the most important thing to her personally, although it may be to others. It begs the question of perspective, and how others might view this quote differently than her, just as she did as the jailer spoke.

Voyant Tools and its obscurities and ambiguities
This tool, although inquisitive, assumes its audience to be statistically and mathematically fluent. It obscures the meaning of the words themselves, and while it does entertain the form and presence of each word, it does not open the words up for interpretation. Its bias is certainly numerical, as al of the observations it makes revolve around frequencies and graphic measures. To situate this bias, a viewer should be reading the pome in its original format as well, this way both the logistical and literal meanings are present for the reader.

For this tool, I ran one of Blake’s poems through the software. Rather than the intellectual meaning of the poem, this extracts the statistical significance of the text. It depicts the relative frequencies of words within the poem, and how these relate to the form of the poem. The form plays a large role in interpretation, which is why this tool can be so useful. It gives readers a rather different way to interpret the poem, and plays with the idea of perspective and shifting focuses.

Voyant Tools is a website that quite literally breaks down words or phrases in a variety of particular ways. It breaks down the vocabulary density, formations, graphics, and more. Rather than getting several different abstract meanings for your words, this tool gives the statistical and logical analysis of any term or image the user uploads.

my college house was built in the 1800’s, wondering how many people have walked through this doorway in its lifetime
