WEEK 12 - Public Art
Although I have never been an artsy person, one thing that has always captured my interest has been wall art. I always wanted to paint a wall one day but didn’t have the artsy power. However, this activity made me feel like adding my touch to a wall. Someone had already distorted it. I painted the red design in the cap to give the guy a cool look.

Week 11- Artist Essays
Helen Frankenthaler and Sam Gilliam
Abstract art is well-known thanks to Helen Frankenthaler. She is a significant contributor to the history of postwar American painting, as I discovered as I looked through her work. He started showing her abstract expressionist paintings in modern art museums when she was still developing as an artist. She used color fields, which are very alluring to the audience, to bring abstract art from a new angle. Her work went through several phases or stages. Her use of abstract composition, abstract masses, and abstract shapes appears to be extremely competent. Helen's main area of interest is latent nature. She believed that good photographs should appear to have occurred simultaneously. With the opening of the exhibition of mountains and sea in 1952, her first piece of art was formally debuted. She counted Clement Greenberg among her influences.
Sam Gilliam is another well-known abstract artist who specializes in lyrical abstraction. He worked at Washington Color School as an associate. His work focuses on lyrical abstraction and abstract expressionism. For his artwork, he once stretched and wrapped canvas. His pieces appear to frequently be displayed in galleries. He was the first artist to use such a canvas for their creations. One of his creations is the Solar Canopy. As I browsed through his works, I saw that Gilliam often drapes his pieces across walls or suspends them from the ceiling, giving the impression of theatre curtains or flags. The artist also uses a variety of folding and staining methods in his works on paper and canvases.
The artwork of the two painters is remarkably similar. Both artists employ abstract expressionism in their color-field paintings. One distinction is that, as was previously indicated, Sam Gilliam debuted his artwork on a novel type of canvas. The versatility of this type of art makes it highly alluring. Given that they are both experts in their domains, it is difficult to choose which is best. This kind of abstract can be expanded upon with more creative concepts. If I were to continue creating art based on the concepts of these two artists, I would go with a color field that uses drape canvas and color field techniques to depict societal issues in our society.

Week 10 Artists Essay
Joseph DeLappe and Micol Hebron
American artist Joseph de Lappe is known for his intervention pieces in which he focuses on current political concerns via media and video games. is a San Francisco native who earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design from San Jose State University. Politics is the subject of his artwork, and he has consistently been opposed to politics. Later, he joined in on the game activity as well. In other words, he combines political criticism with the use of communication mediums and games. He created polygonal constructions that emphasize the conflict between American troops and the Taliban. He created both real-world monuments and virtual installations. He picked video games as the medium for his artwork since, in his opinion, they are typically disregarded in the art world, although it was difficult for him.
Micol Hebron is another multidisciplinary American artist. Chapman University professor. University of California, San Diego, early training in theatre and visual arts. She completed a fine arts bachelor's degree. She is a feminist who uses a visual representation to defend herself against this sexism on social media. There are many difficulties with her artwork because in 2019 her social media was immediately pulled down due to censorship of nudity and art. She has experienced multiple suspensions of her Facebook account because of the photoshopped female photographs.
Although both artists have held academic positions, there are differences in their works of art. Hebron is a feminist whose art is very personal, whereas Joseph de Lappe focuses on political concerns and wars. In my opinion, Joseph's artwork is more significant than that of Hebron since political issues may be openly discussed, and the public also seems to find these topics to be interesting. Feminism is undoubtedly a topic that may be expressed in public, but even other visual media authority would not choose the method of communication Hebron adopted. As a result, Hebron's artwork presents feminism in an unsatisfactory manner.

Week 8 -Artists
Essay- Addario-Cardiff-Miller
The capacity for storytelling exists in the artist. Visual art is currently thought to be the most well-liked method of idea communication in movies and television. The public can find a tone of entertainment in it as well. However, images that employ a visual medium are a silent statement of one's feelings. Famous photojournalist Lynsey Addario portrays battles, terrible lives, and the lives of the underprivileged. She uses a melancholy and depressing topic or subject in her pictures. She recently focused her photographs on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The image appears to be mostly a tragic one in terms of photography. This gives the spectator a close-up picture of what took place throughout the conflict.
Cardiff and Miller, meanwhile, are well renowned for their audio and video walks. Miller and Cardiff represented the 49th Venice Biennale in 2001, educating the audience about criminality that occurs in the real world. The presentation of the work was so effective that the audience's experience was more than pleasant, making it quite extraordinary. Additionally, they present their story to the audience using audio recordings that have been recorded. Their narrative has a philosophical topic as well as fictional characters. This form of narrative, in my opinion, is highly appealing to the listeners because the contemporary generation favors technology. The artwork is evolving in a way.
As Addario sheds attention on the tragic lives in society, and the others employ narratives to portray their ideas, both artists are highly remarkable in their work. Since the current generation favors technology, as was already noted, I think the work of Cardiff and Miller would be more relevant as audience-drawing effects. The more appealing the artwork is, the more the audience will pay attention to it.
Furthermore, rather than listening to the audio and visualizingthe scene in one's head, it can sometimes be challenging to comprehend only a photograph from each perspective. The audience has a hard time understanding Addario's theme at times. Miller's narratives are simple to comprehend, and it is now appealing to recreate works of art.

Week 7 Artists
Today, photography is regarded as an artistic medium. Several of my pals used to have top-notch cameras in their wallets so they could pursue photography as a career. Many people can now make a lot of money in this field because of technology. Even though it has many restrictions, many people nevertheless choose to work in this field. talking Both Nan Goldin and Annie Leibowitz specialize in intimate portraiture, although their subjects are very different. The subjects of Annie Leibovitz's photographs are famous people and celebrities. Her work primarily concentrates on two types of imagery: the magical and the touchingly personal. This component is presented by her in such a way that it is entertaining. One of her portrayals is shown in the image below, Featuring a goose on his neck and a black shirt, Leonardo DiCaprio. When it comes to photography, most of her body of work is black and white.
Tumblr media
Nancy Goldin, who was previously noted, specializes in intimate photography. Nancy Goldin is an American photographer and activist who was born on September 12, 1953. Her writing frequently examines LGBT subcultures, the HIV/AIDS, or the drug crisis. Her photographic subjects include taboo culture and individuals, or, more specifically, drug users. Her photography and artwork mostly consist of unedited or raw images. It is a style of dog refi that emphasizes social injustices. It displays those who are harmed or affected by drug users. Her photography also depicts the negative effects of drug use. In my view, the topic is appropriate because it raises awareness about drug users and sellers. The image below demonstrates how a girl with puffy eyes may have taken drugs since she is unconsciously resting on the bed.
Tumblr media
According to me, the main distinction between the photography of the two artists is that Leibovitz focuses on her sentiments toexpress her aspirations through her photographs, whereas Golden concentrates on the feelings of individuals and society. She speaks for society, much like Nancy Goldin's photography does. While the practice of photographing famous people is widespread in society, anyone may do it with ease. Today, social injustices require discussion through all media.

WEEK 5 - BUBBLE LETTERS
The art project I made for this week was so much fun to make! I have used spray paint to paint for art work in school, so I was thrilled to be utilising it for this class! Instead of a cardboard, I decided to use a sheet. I have seen graffiti on streets, the artist’s art demonstrates the urban environment's abstract beauty and bare beauty. Because it is connected to street culture and the current cultural mood, graffiti is fascinating. I believe that raffiti is naturally improvisatory.

WEEK 4 ART - Zines
In terms of shape and content, the term "zine" has evolved to refer to a variety of small-batch, DIY publications that are "magazine-like." I made the decision to create what I typically consider, the reality behind us. Skull with a half-face. Due of the pharaoh symbol's association with death, the half-pharaoh, half-skull tattoo also alludes to death or, as the Egyptians thought, life after death. Skulls represent more than just death; they also represent power, knowledge, warning, danger, and eccentric fashion. In today's culture, people have learned to use this expertise to represent things other than death and sadness. This drawing's ability to have several interpretations is really fascinating, and this is just the kind of work I enjoy.

WEEK 6 - DRAWING II
I am not very good at drawings maps, but I thought I should give it a go. My memory is vague, but I tried to replicate the sectors. My favourite thing in the campus is the pyramid, so I amfairly certain where that goes. Overall, the task gave me a chance to consider my time at school, my familiarity with my surroundings, and my capacity for learning and memory. I believe that campus is a big part of us, a big part of the memory we will take with us.

Automatic Drawing on the other hand, i tried doing soemthing different, more like geometric art.
This was done by the help of my roommate who is in fact very good at geometric designs. This was an extremely fun activity where we both drew a painting, drawing that aims to suppressed rational thought, allowing the subconscious to take control. This felt amazing and I am grateful for the experience.

Week 6 - Artist Essay
Essay
Famous French singer and composer Camille Dalmais is from France. She is also well-known as a sporadic actress in the art world. She attended ballet music classes and lived much of her early years in Paris. For the start of her music career, she decided on sciences PO Paris. Virgin Records was the party to the recording agreement. The Guns of Brixton and Making Plans of Nigel are among the tracks on her CDs. She celebrated with English producers and used an avant-garde approach in her work, which entails employing a thread throughout the entirety of the album. TV adverts or independent advertisements were used. Her performances have always been mesmerizing and a unique experience. The unconventional singer performs for two hours while writhing barefoot on the ground, galloping like a horse, howling like a wolf, singing bold harmonies with a trio of backing vocalists, and hitting high notes that may only be heard to dogs.
Producer, director, and choreographer Sarah Elgart is well-known. She captivated the audience by promoting music and media through dance motions in every neighborhood, including airports, museums, and bus stations. She created a lot of film commercials and adverts. Large-scale initiatives with organizations like the Getty, the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of Los Angeles, etc. Nels Cline of Wilco has also collaborated as part of the solid sound festival. She served a variety of organizations, including those that dealt with critical diseases, women security inmates, jails, hospitals, and teaching authorities. Many of the problems that need to be resolved in our country are expressed in her art. She is still involved in democratizing dance, pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a stage, and elevating dance above other social issues and business concerns.
In contrast to Camille Dalmais' song, Sarah Elgart's choreography strikes me as being more emotive. While not everyone in the audience will be able to hear a French song, everyone can grasp the objective of whatever is being stated in front of them through choreography, which may be expressed through movements. In addition, while choreography is intended to be observed with interest, occasionally a person may not listen to a song from a position of understanding it or listening with interest.

Week 5 - Artist Essay
Essay
Vanessa Alice, also known as Miss Van, is the subject of my talk. She is a street artist and a graffiti artist. When she was 18 years old, she began her career by painting the streets of Toulouse. Her distinctive usage of doll-like characters in her art makes it easy to identify her work. She also wrote several novels, but her paintings are well known worldwide. Her works frequently have sexuality, innocence, and longing as their themes. It emphasizes the idea of feminism, which helps women emotionally. As she gained notoriety, her art moved from the streets to a reputable gallery. Her work also focuses more on the dreamlike creations of women. But because every action has a response, a lot of feminists criticized her for the way she arranged women in her paintings. Her focus on the emotional aspects of women's lives led some of the other painters to believe that her work was particularly personal.
Banksy is the other artist. He is regarded as a master of freehand graffiti. He is also renowned over the world as a practical joker. His work focuses on capitalism, sardonic humor, and irony about societal political and social messages. He selected that roadway so that his messages might be displayed clearly on Europe's walls. His preferred method of expressing his art has always been through anonymity because it draws attention to the piece rather than the artist. Graffiti is prohibited, so many people spoke out against Banksy's artwork.
Both artists, in my perspective, used street art to express themes in various ways. The feminism in Miss Van's paintings primarily depicts the emotions of women. While the themes of Banksy's art are political, social, commercial, and capitalist. Their art made its way from the streets to reputable galleries. Both received flack, but because of how well-known their work is, they were able to simply take over. Graffiti, when utilized constructively, is a good technique to spread the message. It can be viewed as the public's and artists' voices. Both got considerable notoriety for their artwork and subtly increased the public's voices.
Every artist has a place in their industry, but I think Banksy's work is better since it conveys a variety of social themes rather than concentrating on just one. There are certainly more issues that need to be addressed than a feminism-themed artist would likely prefer to focus on. Although Banksy incorporates aspects of society such as politics, society, dark humor, etc. into his works, he does so in a way that has an impact on both other artists and the public.

Week 4 - Artists Essay
Essay
Tom Sachs and Johanna Fateman, in contrast to other artists, concentrate on everyday elements and media that we take for granted. Tom Sachs employs everyday ideas and simple elements from his sculptures to create 3D displays. His art is based on simple materials and things. Additionally, he uses common materials to prepare cultural icons as part of his activities, which are carried out on a wide scale. Tom Sachs specializes in contemporary creations made of accessible materials. He is renowned for his modern paintings as well. He gathers objects or materials from parks, kitchens, businesses, etc. to employ as a medium in his artwork. Here is an illustration of one of his sculptures that he created using a basket.
Tumblr media
Johanna Fateman, on the other hand, is regarded as an art critic. Musician, composer, and magazine author Fateman. She began her profession by penning zines about her dissatisfied existence, which became popular. As a result of her work for numerous websites and periodicals, she is now well-known as a columnist. It is believed that she used to be critical of individuals who set out with fresh eyes. She had shared a love of Antonin Artaud from the 1920s through the 1930s with one of her painting teachers. For several reasons, she used to admire him. She occasionally has issues in her classes. She is slated to be a musical monk who frequently disagrees with other creatives of a like mind. In other words, she was against the artwork that gives a new perspective to things.  The following is an excerpt from her article "Creativity is the enemy”.
Tumblr media
In my viewpoint, Tom Sachs and Fateman are two distinct characters, one of whom supports creativity and the other of whom views it as an enemy. However, if we examine each person's contributions, they are all admirable. Given that Tom Sachs employs everyday objects in his artwork, it is rather astounding. However, whenever it is good in the world, it is constantly opposed by a negative force, according to Fateman, who opposes such a perspective on creating art.

Week 2 Activity
It was my first time doing this activity, and I got to admit it was a lot of fun. It was fun following all the three steps: The original clay or wax model created by the sculptor is recreated using a waste mold in one, a piece mold in another, and a gelatin mold in the third. I do think that this is a profitable hobby if you can master it and create masterpieces.
I am going to rate myself a 6/10 and I do want to get better at it. I believe you can use this techniques to save sculptors that mean a lot to you.
