something important
I will now do a somewhat different post. I hesitated about doing it, but, ultimately, I feel that this is too important to be left unsaid. And if it helps only one person out there, I will be happy.
So hereâs the story:
Some nights ago, I was sleeping at my boyfriendâs house. He is someone Iâve known for some years now and that I care for a lot. When we started dating, I had no acne. I got it because I stopped taking the pill. Needless to say, I had been feeling really insecure about my acne for the past months. I wasnât sure why he would still like me with a face full of spots.Â
While I was washing my face that night, I realized that I had new, awful zits. I broke down. I couldnât bear him to see my face like that. He asked me what was wrong and I tried to push it aside, but, ultimately, I couldnât lie. I told him how insecure I had been feeling and how I couldnât understand why he was still in love with me. He kissed me and held me tight and didnât let go for the longest time. We were already in bed, ready to sleep. He then told me something I will never forget: You are one of the best people I know, and you do not deserve to be feeling like this. And youâre so much more than whatever it is you have on your face. I cried harder.Â
We stayed there for a long time, hugging, crying, kissing, and eventually we fell asleep. I had never in my life felt so loved. The next day, I strode out of that door sure that if anyone decided to judge me for my face, it said more about them than it said about me.
I can only hope that, one day, youâll find a love that will make you feel just like this. In the meanwhile, I want to tell you this: whatever youâre going through with youâre acne, you do not deserve to feel like that. Your value as a person goes way beyond your skin problems. And people who are not smart enough to see that do not deserve your attention.
Youâre a lovely human being who will get through this and come out only stronger.
Also: if you yourself do not have acne, but know someone who does, be sure to be kind. Donât mention it unless they do. Stare at their eyes when youâre talking to them and not at their acne. And, if they happen to mention it, be sure to say: youâre so much more than your acne. Donât let it get you down.

Iâm breaking out
and even though I know itâs normal, and that it happens to all of us sometimes, itâs definitely getting me down.
I think itâs important to remember that nobody is perfect. We all have fine lines, pimples, and some discoloration on our skin. After all, our skin is a living, breathing organ that has its own inconsistencies.Â
I know that personally, I can be a bit too hard on myself when it comes to the issues in my complexion. I wish I could look at myself in the mirror every single day and see flawless, evenly toned skin, but I canât, because thatâs just unrealistic. Weâre all human, and NONE of us are perfect. We have to learn to, well, love the skin weâre in.
I just wanted to share that piece of self-care today. After all, thatâs the most important aspect of skincare, to love yourself and nourish yourself. Itâs all about caring for #1 (:
