Poetry Activity 5
1. I have found three themes for this poem they are; moving on, love, and the strength of the bonds we make with people. But only one of these help me understand the images and ideas of this poem. That theme is moving on. I think that this entire poem is the process of getting over someone or someone going through that process. So the theme of moving on is strongly shown in the poem, this person is going through the stages of moving on, this starts with him remembering the times he spent with this person, then he realizes how much he lost when he lost this person, next this person realizes that it's over and that person is no longer his, and then they realize that its over and this person is no longer needed. This is how this theme helps me understand this poem. This theme is also connected to other themes like the healing power of time and the strength of bonds because moving takes time some people will need more time than others and that is based on the strength of the bonds that you and the person you are trying to move on from had. This also doesn't just apply to people in love this could also be for people that you lost either by becoming distant or them passing away.
2. I agree with this poem's idea of moving on from somebody you once loved or had a strong connection with. I mostly agree with the emotions and feelings that the person in this poem is going through but I do not agree with how this person is handling it but for this person, there's not much he could do. But I do know how it feels and this poem does a very good job of mimicking the actual emotions and pain that comes with losing someone and it does give a good image on how moving on works.
3.  The line “Although this may be the last pain she causes me, and this may be the last poem I write for her.” is my favorite line because I know this feeling and this allows me to capture the whole image and understand what is going on in this poem. It also is a sort of reassurance that I did recover and I did move on because to me what I did was right and what I did is very close to what this guy wrote.
4. I think this poem is outlining or telling us the process of moving on from someone you loved or you still love.
5. I can relate and connect to this poem because I lost someone that I used to have love for and it took me a while to get over it and during that time I took a similar process to the guy in this poem , I remember all the great things ,I realized how much I lost,  I realized how much I gained, and then it was over I no longer felt the way and now I live life with no more holding back.

Poetry Activity 4
1. Two themes that I can pick up when reading this poem are parenthood and abuse. The theme of parenthood is shown through the mother. The mother is the only parent who is taking care of the kid in this story and she is being abused and is facing all the troubles of being a parent. She doesn't even think of leaving or retaliating against the father who is abusing her and I think that this is because she knows that if she leaves or does any drastic actions it will end badly for her and her child and because she knows this she is willing to take this abuse so that she can protect her child. The theme of abuse is also shown through the mother as the entire poem is about how the mother is being abused, but more importantly it shows the effect that abuse has on people, starting with how she always wants Henry to be happy , the mother always tells him to smile and that it is good to be happy when you can, this can be because she knows how it feels to have no happiness and she does not want this for anyone. The effect of abuse is also shown at the end when she smiles when all the fish are dead, which could mean that she is wanting to be set free or die. These themes help me breakdown the characters and main idea of this poem.
2. I agree with this poem in the sense that abuse is wrong and that it does so much more to people than giving them pain. I believe that abuse can cause so many more effects on people who are being abused and for the people around those who are being abused like Henry and his mother. Henry has to watch his mom get abused by his dad and this will mold certain aspects of Henry in his future and for his mother, she is like a statue being hit with pickaxes until every bit of her original mold is destroyed.
3. I don't really like any of the images shown or envisioned by me when I read this. But one image that does stick with me in my mind is the mother smiling at the sight of the cat eating the dead fish. This, to me, is very disturbing and I hate to think of such a creepy smile. It also scares me because this is a sign of a person who is insane or not mentally stable and because this is a very real scenario is terrifies me that this can happen to almost anyone,
4. I think that this poem is presenting the idea of abuse or growing up around abuse and the idea of how abuse affects people and the reason behind abuse.
5. There is no way I can directly connect to this poem. But I have known people who have had abusive parents and I have seen first hand what it can cause someone to do and how negatively it can turn around people's lives. I have also seen the light that can come out of these situations for instance someone I know not dedicates their life to helping kids who have been abused.

Nothing but life
The blue coat of the undiscovered,
full of harmony,
full of mystery,
yet we sail,
with the risk of a storm.
Wake up,
look outside,
there it is the sun gleaming through the sky,
go downstairs,
see something more precious than diamond itself,
always fighting and in conflict but every moment is out of love,
surrounded by love,
the sun goes down,
yet we still feel warm,
and the world is still full of light.
Wake up,
look to your side,
the queen of your kingdom sleeps,
ready for war,
ready for peace,
prepare yourself,
the outcome can never be predicted.
Wake up,
look around,
the angels are awake,
yet to grow their wings,
they come to you for help and guidance,
you are their protector as much as they are yours,
failure is no longer an option.
Now close your eyes,
the world is warm,
the angels to have their wings,
the battle has ended,
And now your ship sails towards an island.

Poetry Activity 2
1.  This poem gives resonates a couple of themes as I read it. These themes include; love, relationships. The image this poem gives me is a person who is using an onion to describe what he wants to give someone else in a relationship, someone who is trying to keep it real and is trying to explain how he or she feels about their relationship and because of this the relationship theme resonates to me. For the theme of love, it is given to me differently than the other theme for this theme it is a kind of explanation for the effects of the relationships for example it says “Here. It will blind you with tears like a lover.” …”It's platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring if you like.”, for me, love explains these effects because these will only happen if there is love between the two people. So to sum it all up this poem to me is about a relationship being related to an onion and the effects of the onion which can be explained through love and that is why the theme of love and relationships resonate with me as I read it.
2. I do agree with this poem because I do believe that love will affect you in the way an onion would for instance I do believe that love makes you blind and its scent and aroma will stick with you as long as you're with that person and even if your not with that person anymore the love you once had for that person will affect your choices for a little while, just like an onion.
3. My favorite line in this poem is “It is a moon wrapped in brown paper. It promises light” this is my favorite line and image because it means that even though I'm not the best-looking person or the best person on the outside my intentions or the energy I want to give is good and only good. This speaks to me because I feel that everybody wants to give good energy or spread good vibes and that everybody should be pushed or given a chance to give out good energy and vibes.
4. To me this poem is saying that love or relationships are not perfect from the start, but as you fall deeper in love, the more the relationship will affect you , it will make you cry ,it will make you feel strong or even weak but it will change you and when you start a new relationship the cycle will restart and a new onion will be given to you. This also works for when people decide to hurt or in this case take a piece or cut off a piece of the onion because once it's gone it will never come back or even if you manage to piece it back together it will never be the same.
5. There is only one way I can relate to this poem and this connection is about the onion I once gave someone. In this relationship we were strong , but one day something happened that caused a piece of the onion to be cut off and because of this our onion or relationship that me and this person shared fell apart, but after my eyes cleared of the tears they opened and I was able to let it go and I was able to see the other person for what they truly were.

1. Some of the themes that I recognized from this poem are; love, the strength relationships, the mystery of the future ,and the significance of one day. Each theme helps me understand this poem by making it easier to connect each line to the rest of the poem. For example the strength of relationships helps connect the line "and bound as one, fell, and drowned, without being unbound." to the lines "This day our bodies grew stretched out to Earth’s limits, orbited there, melded there" which means that the two people built an unbreakable relationship and are ready to expand it by conceiving a baby. The mystery of the future theme connects the lines "A strange door opened, between us,and someone, with no face as yet, waited for us there" to the rest of the poem by putting the last piece of the puzzle that is the relationship between these people. For the themes of love, and the significance of one day, these themes act like a type glue for this poem connecting the entire poem together.
4. When I read this poem I receive two outcomes or stories. One story is about a couple who form an unbreakable bond and then have a baby or who will have a baby. The other story is about two people who bond but then get distant and then eventually break up and then they both find someone new.
2. The story I agree with is the story about the couple who bond and are expecting a child. I find that this message is shown through the imagery and lines of this poem. It speaks more of getting over hardships rather than being destroyed by them. This is also proven by the final lines which can be interpreted as two things one, which is having a baby or two , finding someone new . Out of the two the one with the baby makes more sense to me as I believe that the two people fell in love.
3. The lines that spoke to me the most are "This day, Today, was a brimming glass. This day, Today, was an immense wave." These spoke to me the most because I feel like everyday should feel like this and I love beginnings. I also like this because it is a strong introduction or beginning and if a poem starts of strong i get drawn in and in just wanna keep reading and it is also a good indication that the rest of the poem will be strong.
3pt2. This poem has touched my heart differently than anything I have read in a long time. What I like the most about this poem is that it speaks about a story that thousands of people go through everyday the story of how people meet someone else and they bond , form a love and then they expand their relationship by giving birth to a child and start a family.
5. There is one idea about this poem that I can relate to and that idea is forming an unbreakable bonds. I have been able to create and form unbreakable bonds with people even though I haven't had a bond as serious as marriage I still consider this a connection to be my strongest yo this poem.

Once friends
The anger on your face was unlike anything I have ever seen . hot like the sun it burnt through my soul. From friends to nothing like day and night . We were at our strongest like the sun in the summer but we were destroyed by a fool who you chose to trust because of another. The sun is gone but there is still light in this darkness

My Life in Street Gangs day 5 pt 2
If Danilo Celestino was brother my opinion would stay the same because I would still say Segun is  unforgivable and will never deserve a second chance ,  which was my original statement. But my statement would be more biased , meaning that most of my opinion about him will solely be based on the fact that he killed my brother instead of the fact that he has a criminal past and is known for being responsible more many  people being hurt. I would also have a more harsh and less empathetic approach to his case and the person he is or will become.

My Life in Street Gangs day 5 pt 1
Many people do things in life that others will think is unforgivable and those people are sometimes right.Segun is a teen who has had a very bad and troubled past and has done so many things that people can question if he is worthy of a second chance..Segun doe s not deserve a second chance. Segun does not deserve a second chance because of three reasons they include; hurting many people through crimes, killing someone, and already being given so many chances.
Firstly Segun has robbed and fought so many people for unacceptable reasons such as trying to be cool and fitting in, without even considering his actions or effects on other people , he even admits  it , Seguns says “ I wanted to be just like them, so I started wearing gang insignia—including blue bandanas, the Galloway trademark—as a way to let the world know I was part of it, too.” this proves that Segun should not be forgiven and given a second chance because  after knowing that the Galloways Boys kill , steal ,and even put women for prostitution he still wanted to part of them for nothing more than being cool.
Secondly Segun  killed someone , the most unforgivable action and sin , which should never be forgiven unless it's during a war  or an accident. In Seguns case it was kind of an accident but it could have avoided if he chose not to strike back Segun says “I ended up stabbing him three times; I learned later that one of the cuts sliced his aorta.”. This proves that Segun should not be given a second chance because when given the opportunity to end a fight after the opponent was unarmed he chose to use the weapon against the opponent multiple times. Segun did not even turn himself in to the police.
Lastly Segun does not deserve a second chance because of the ridiculous amount of chances he was given prior to his final change for the better. Segun has had very little to no punishment of some of his previous  actions for example most of his thefts were not dealt with , some of the fights only resulted in suspensions and other smaller bad deeds were not even accounted for. Segun says “My lawyer believed the Crown would charge me with \manslaughter. I was shocked to find out that they’d slapped me with second-degree murder, which means they thought the act was premeditated. I was facing a potential life sentence.”  this proves that Segun did not get all the punishment he deserved because he did not get a full life sentence.
Segun has avoided his punishments and has continued to commit crime after crime and this is why he should not be given a second chance.

My Life In Street gangs day 4
The user northern_confederate commented 'wish every African could be blessed by making and redeeming himself from this same mistake. We’d kill two birds with one stone- a more tolerant society and no more European descended oppressors!'. I feel that this comment is correct. I think that it is correct because I believe that everyone should have or be given the chance to redeem themselves and that in doing so we will create a better society for people of all cultures and races. I also disagree with this comment because it introduces hatred towards the european descendants by saying that they should be no more of them , this is very ironic because they just mentioned a more tolerant society and a more tolerant society should be tolerant of all types of people. Another idea I would like to expand on is the idea of making a more tolerant society , I think that to make a more tolerant society we would have to do so much more than getting one race of people to redeem themselves , I think that it will take everybody to forgive each other of their own mistakes and for everyone to work together in making the lives of everyone better.

My life in street gangs day 2
The theme I chose for this article is change. I chose change because of the many changes that Segun has been through throughout his life. One of the more frequent changes in Segun's life is where he lives. In Segun's story he lives in many places which impact his life in many ways , at the very beginning he moves to Victoria park and in pursuit of making friends is initiated into a crew , which will jumpstart his connection to gangs. When he later then moves morningside he gets himself involved with the Galloway Boys. Segun was changing, everytime he moved somewhere he got worse, more violent and gangster until he killed someone and decided to change for the better. The places he lived were not the only  changes he faced another constant change was the people he hung out with. The people Segun hung out with always influenced his character and his actions , molding him into a gangster. Some of these people are Mr.T and his so called friends , they made Segun believe that robbing people, doing drugs, and fighting people were cool or a way to get by , which caused him to go down a bad and violent path. The last change that Segun explains in his story is his change from bad , violent , robbing,  gangster to child supporting youth worker this is the ultimate reason for the theme  being change because this shows Seguns true transformation into a better life. Segun is an example that anyone can change for the better no matter what they have done , his strength  to  overcome his past , his commitment to undo all the bad he has done , and his courage to admit all he has done makes him a great example for anyone who is willing to change their evil and bad ways. Though the theme change this article teaches us that it is never too late or impossible to change and make the world a better place. The story of Segun can relate to many people around the world who do very bad things and later in life regret it and turn themselves around for the better.

Activity 2
Im am one of those people who are caught between cultures. The two cultures I am caught between are my guyanese culture and my canadian culture. The struggle between these starts with my parents, they have little expectations about the person I should be or what I should be doing because of my guyanese culture for example they expect a loud ,life of the party type of dude ,and that isn't exactly what I am, I would say that I am quiet and enjoy the smaller things in life. Some of the other struggles are the barrier between me and my family , this barrier is created because of some of the cultural divide they can all relate and connect between there guyanese culture, but I am often excluded because I just can't relate enough. But it is not all bad I do learn and compare my cultures in an attempt to connect them together and this makes me a better person and it helps me maintain and grow the relationships between me and my family. To conclude I will say that connecting with both cultures has made me a better person and if I did not struggle with connecting them I would never be able to connect them in the first place

My social media account shows the story of a person who doesn't do a lot in his life who doesn't go out who has no friends or never goes out with his friends , it shows that this.person has nothing to give or contribute to this world or never even bothers to give or share anything with anybody and it shows that this person either lives in a terrible situation where this person does not have the ability to or that they are living under a rock. All of that is completely false the real person I am is always in a great place with friends and family who is always ready and able to give joy and happiness to everybody around me , I go out a lot and create so many memories and live so many experiences and the reason why i don't share or post any of it is because I am so busy doing anything with anyone that I have no time to run a constant social media and I feel that it is just a waste of time when it comes to being the person that I am and that if I was focused  on running or posting on social media I would lose track of who I am and I would not be able to be who I am.

Activity 1
Anais Granofsky grew up with multiple identities, as she juggled her poor regular life with her rich lavish one she was often faced with challenges and obstacles than often made her suffer. The challenges were often between her mother and her grandmother. In the article “Between two worlds” Anais talks about how she acted when she was with her mother or grandmother Anais says “I was rowdy and rambunctious with Dushun (mother), quiet and polite with Shirley (grandmother). “Through this Anais has shared that between the two she is an entirely different person and she suffers from this because she cannot know or show who she truly is to either her mother or grandmother. Secondly Anais struggle to sustain two identities between her mother and her grandmother has also made Anais dependent on the two identities she explains in the article “Between two worlds” Anais says that “In the bridle path, I wanted to be the perfect granddaughter to keep her wanting me back. At home, I felt the responsibility to keep my mom emotionally afloat, to need nothing so as not to burden her further” this caused Anais to suffer because she had to push herself to be the perfect child for both her mother and grandmother which can be very difficult because the mother and grandmothers vision of a perfect child could have been very different this also makes her true character suffer as a result of fulfilling the perfect child obstacle. Lastly Anais explains her promise that she made between both important ladies in her life Anais says “I had a tacit agreement with both women to never speak of the other life I was living. I became second nature to cleave myself in two.” This constraint to tell either her mother or grandmother what really goes on when there not around can causes Anais to suffer because she cannot fully have or keep the trust between both her grandmother and her mother.
