this is not supposed to be a serious thought (i think), just an observation i made while looping donketsu, but:

so, we have niigo and wxs, right? their event trailers were both at some point including jewels, gemstones or stuff like that — forgive me, i'm not a jewel person, but even if they're not exactly the same, they both fall into the similiar category. (more more jump also had a jem/gewel/things like these set in step by step, but they were not really assigned them [afaik. i didn't watch the teammate mv] nor they appeared in the trailer)

(forgive me for adding the unfixed wxs ver i just think it's still funny)

for wxs it's donketsu, the song for curtain call and for niigo it's tricologe, the song for depths of despair. while these (i'll just call them gems for short alright) in fact are mentioned in tricologe and are even on its cover, there are no mentions of them in donketsu, they're just here to reference the set i guess. still! it's the trailer that matters.

i'm not gonna analyze the position of the gems here, it has been already done back and forth during waiting for curtain call and during waiting for depths of despair probably too, but the surroundings of the gems is important here: wxs gems are still vivid in shiny, yet they are in a dark place, with an hourglass behind (or next to?) them. niigo gems are rather... dull, but they're surrounded by light colors, with something that can be thought of as a broken glass behind them (ik it's not. but i like to interpret it as such). hourglass, a symbol of a time passing. broken glass, a symbol of a new opportunity.

the events where the gems were used are during events on pretty much opposite sides. curtain call is talking about the fear of separation, of having to part ways, of an approaching ending. and depths of despair is talking about the very beginning of niigo. there is no fear, there is a slight hope. slight, because they're still at the very bottom of despair, but a hope nonetheless — for kanade to save someone, for mafuyu to be saved.

rui in curtain call knows that his bond with wxs is coming to an end. kanade in depths of despair knows that her bond with niigo is only getting started.

gems for separation and ending, gems for closeness and beginning.

well, i don't have an conclusion for this. i just wanted to talk about it because i think it's pretty cool. take this as you wish.

i headcanon that Saki and Souma met in the hospital, at around fourteen and seventeen respectively, when a nurse suggested he keep her company since they both like music. they lightheartedly tended to argue over who the "world's best singer" was (Ichika or Arata) and had other little quarrels. they encouraged each other through all the check-ups and injections. Saki did her best to remain cheerful in front of most, but let herself break down in front of Souma occassionally, because he told her it was okay to feel angry and upset.

when Saki was finally discharged from the hospital, even though she had been longing to for ages, she suddenly got quite scared to leave at the end (when i'm there, i tend to be frustrated at not being able to leave, yet cry on the way home) and she hid away.

she was afraid of going home, of being out of the nurses' care, dreading the return to school where she was sure she was very behind. it was Souma that found her, having wheeled through the whole hospital until he spotted her crouching behind a vending machine and encouraged her to leave, reminding her of how much her family and friends missed her. Saki thinks of him as her "hospital brother" as she never felt so understood by anyone else.

her parents, Tsukasa, Ichika, Honami, Shiho and the others were sweet, but they would never truly understand.

Souma did.

listen. i can excuse many of the ensekai event name translations. some of them aren't too bad. some of them are worse than others. but i drawn the line at

how can you OMIT the "quagmire" in "a canary sings in the quagmire." genuinely how.

a quagmire is a boggy body of water, one that is typically very unsafe to tread in.

the entire event is about how nene is stuck, and how she learns to overcome her own pride and insecurities as a singer. she's unstable, her footing is not firm. but she learns to stand her ground. she learns to trust in seiryuin, in kazamatsuri, in her friends who believe in her, and in herself especially. she makes her way out of the quagmire, onto safe shore.

and given the fact that this is a NENE event you can't just. RID HER OF HER WATER MOTIFS. GIVE MY GIRL HER WATER MOTIFS BACK. THEY'VE BEEN THERE SINCE MERMAIDS. IT'S NOT EVEN "SWAMP" OR "BOG" OR EVEN "POND."

i'm june 23, so i got minokananene! which is such a cute lineup, but unfortunately i cannot think of anything for them ): it'd be something similiar to hobbyists on day off maybe? minus honachan and with kanade instead of mizuki .. hm

(if we go by ensekai running dates, then i got wonder magical showtime instead of carnation and this is so cute too dhsjs nene having the sunshine overload with minori and tsukasa)
