In Sapiens, Professor Yuval Noah Harari explains the reason. It was an evolutionary bargain. The human brain takes up 25% of the body’s energy. Compare that with 8% in other apes, and lesser in other animals.

Unlike today, the primitive Homo Sapiens did not have easy access to high-calorie food. And maintaining such a big brain took a lot of resources and energy. Our ancestors paid for the evolution of a larger brain in two ways — their muscles atrophied and their intestines got shorter.

It was a very heavy toll for the body to spend energy on digesting food, it was a lot more convenient if the food was somehow already broken down or cooked, reducing the amount of energy spent by the body that went into digesting the food.

And the cooked food saved the body vital energy to evolve the larger brain of Homo Sapiens and Neanderthals.

As such, it became difficult to digest more complex food like cellulose.

Look at our friend Mr Gorilla here, munching on raw bamboo while none of us can eat sugarcane.

That’s why we cook because we simply can not digest most food in the raw form.

And that’s because we have big brains :)

So, thank evolution that we can choose from a range of tasty stuff to eat. ;)

Elliot was in a rather unenviable position. Posted on the 12th floor of a highrise on overlook duty, he was ordered to provide covering fire for his platoon as he had done for many years prior. This day was unusually stressful for him however as humid conditions have necessitated far more hydration than usual - especially considering the dilapidated state of the building he was posted in. While he was quite prepared with refreshments and supplies, he had underestimated just how much he would be pi**ing throughout this operation.

Of course he brought bottles for this purpose as well but he long ago exhausted their capacity. Luckily there have been some scattered cups that he could use that held him over, but now his entire recourse has been consumed....and already he had to pee. Minutes pass as the sniper takes out enemy combatants. Whilst doing so his need quickly builds - rapidly growing to a rather distracting and uncomfortable level. Elliot resolved after taking out another target to find another container to void into.

Fate had other ideas however - just as he was about to turn around the motorcade for the enemy's head of state rounded a corner....RIGHT into Elliot's scopes. This sudden jolt of excitement spurred a leak from Elliot but he couldn't be the least bit concerned about his bladder. He had the president in his sights and he WILL get that kill. Nonetheless he is momentarily distracted by a sharp pain in his abdomen. He has ignored his need for far too long.

Elliot, the seasoned and skilled sniper he was, barely noticed this however, nor the fact that warm pee was now torrenting down his legs. No...he is far too focused on the opportunity before him. As the puddle grows below him, he carefully assumes his aim and fires, striking true and assassinating the enemy dictator. It seemed just as the kill confirmation arrived the torrent stopped. It was only then that he realized what had happened, but I'm sure it was worth it given the promotion he would receive upon returning!

Hmmm, sniper having to be in their nest for a prolonged amount of time, and they really have to pee, but their position could very easily be compromised if they attempted to take a leak (they don't have a bottle big enough to piss into) and how they're seated currently would create too much of a hassle- so, they have to hold it until they get their target 😌

With all due respect, and yes I've been there, the fact is we adults get in serious trouble if minors come anywhere near this kind of content. Whether or not this is how it should be may be a matter for debate, but it is a risk I am unwilling to take personally given my opinion on this subject is nowhere near as strong as the people who are in opposition and I have no desire to antagonize them.
