Reflection on the Telematics Event
Over the course of the 10 days, the Telematics event went from being an internship opportunity to an opportunity that seemed more of a privilege. It is indeed a privilege to be able to meet so many unique individuals & have the opportunity to collaborate with them on a creative level. This event has definitely opened my eyes to the possibility of not just improvisation but also on teamwork, adaptation, understanding, as well as responsibility. It has helped me to realise the true essence of art & why without the existence of art, the world will be a less colourful one to be in. I have been doing music as a passion turned academic with the idea of making a living from it. This event reminded me as to why I loved playing music & why I continued to hone my craft over the past 12 years since I first picked up a guitar. I have renewed passion & respect for my art & the art created by others. Given another chance, I would definitely love to be involved in this event once again. I thank everyone involved, from the panel of lecturers, professors to the performers, for their incredible dedication & inspirational attitude every single day. This is one event I will always remember with lessons I keep close to me for the rest of my life.

Final Day/Day 10- Reflection (21 August 2021)
This debrief session allowed every single one of us to reflect on the last 10 days of our Telematics event & to give our feedback on what we felt about our performances as well as the process leading to the performance day.
It was really interesting to hear about everyone’s thoughts & feelings with regards to the performances & process. We did not just got positive remarks but we also heard critical & constructive feedback from our peers regarding the different performances. We reflected on not only the performance as a whole but as well as all the technical difficulties, what went as expected & some that did not went as expected. We were able to analyse each other’s performances & see the various opinions as well as feedback from the other group members, who were mere audiences while the other performances were taking place.
We then had a jam session with everyone, a reactive jam session with the freedom to react as & when we felt was necessary. All of us had so much fun with this as we neared the farewell that many of us were not looking forward to.

Reflection on Performance Day
Performance day was really indeed a fulfilling experience. Getting to witness everyone’s unique creativity & performances has really & truly been an inspiring experience. It’s amazing to see how everyone from different practices were able to adapt to one another & work together to create pieces of art that were unique to its own right.
As for the experience with my group, I had the unfortunate experience of having a technical difficulty mid performance only to realise that through the concept of improvisation, this added to the overall performance & art piece. It opened my mind & gave me a whole new perspective to what was possible in the realm of improvisation & performance, one of which I would definitely take with me in my journey as an aspiring musician.

Performance Day/Day 9 (20 August 2021)
During the performance day, we had our usual soundcheck through Sonobus before we allowed the audience to come in to commence the performances of the different groups. It was very interesting to see how everybody’s performances started coming much more to life during the performance.

Reflection on Day 8
Our day was really straight forward. Our main objective today was to prepare for the big day, which was performance day. We wanted to show our creativity & uniqueness in our performance. I would like to believe that we definitely have those elements present in our performance. I really love the camaraderie that we have within our group to ensure that our performance will be able to go the smoothest & the best possible way.

Day 8 (19 August 2021)
For day 8, we continued to work amongst our groups to prepare the finishing touches to our performance. Our concept was more or less settled. Zurich was organising their set up for a period of the session, working through the arrangement of the cameras & the different views from their end. All of us in the group were working together in ensuring the best possible performance we could deliver. Everything looked set & ready to go as we navigated through the session.

Reflection on Day 7
Having a group meeting with my fellow Singapore representatives helped to understand how this one event has impacted & taught us individuals many different things. It helped me see the perspectives of many different people & their approach towards the Telematics event.
During the main session, continuing our rehearsal & shaping the performance gave me the opportunity to bond closer with my group mates. I personally started finding similarities on a more personal level with some of my mates. It helps with having a better sense of understanding with them during the performance. Zurich having the opportunity of different camera angles also helps with making our performance more interesting with a variation of ideas. Our performance concept started to get even more interesting when we started to realise how we had around 3 different individual performances in one entire performance.

Day 7 (18 August 2021)
At the start of this session, Singapore (LASALLE College Of The Arts) representatives came together to discuss what we learned so far from the Telematics project. All of us shared our views & personally for me, I learnt a lot about how in depth improvisation is & how technical difficulties honestly could sometimes result in unintended improvisation as well.
For the next part of the session, we got back in our groups to continue rehearsing & preparing for our performance. We developed the initial idea as a group to something that was a little more reactive, that included the script segment between Tejas & Queen. This was a really interesting concept that we were exploring that was starting to show more development in the progress of our performance.
Since our group mates from Zurich will be performing in the same space together, they had the opportunity to work & position themselves around the space. They also had the opportunity to use more than one camera & position them at different angles.

Reflection on Day 6
Having performed with Tejas & Queen for the first time definitely helped to put the performance into perspective. It also gave us a better idea of the concept we would like to move forward with & develop this performance under. Some things that could have been better was how we could get the sound from my GeoShred iPad out from a direct input as well as Tejas’s & Queen’s script could definitely have more structure to it. Overall, our performance definitely had a good foundation for an even better final performance to come.

Day 6 (17 August 2021)
Day 6 was yet another day of group discussions & group work. We started the session off by doing a soundcheck on Sonobus. We were then divided into our groups for more discussion. Unfortunately, Eri & Eunice could only join us later in the day. So we carried on without them for the time being & started planning a skeleton for our performance.
The performance plan ended up taking shape with some modifications. Tejas & Queen has decided to work out a fixed script whilst the rest of us will react to their script accordingly, shaping the emotional contour of the entire performance.

Reflection on Day 5
Day 5 started on a very interesting & high note. Playing the game was definitely a mood lifter for what’s to come during the session. The final story that came out from it was a rather interesting one as well.
Getting to discuss & brainstorm with my group on the first performance piece was also another interesting experience. Much like the previous occasions working with my other peers, this was yet another experience of individuals with unique thinking & mindset, contributing to an overall piece of art that was unique to our group.
Due to technical difficulties, I also had to switch from using my guitar to using my iPad instrument called the GeoShred. The manner of which I contributed to the musical idea was something new to me but also opened the door for more unique improvisation from my side.

Day 5 (16th August 2021)
We started day 5 with a soundcheck on Sonobus. After which, we were made to play a reactive game. The game is for us to create phrases continuing off the previous person’s phrase & create a story.
The text ended up becoming: When I stepped out of the black hole I saw a mirror which reflect my nose and I smell chocolate - chocolate with curry flavour - I put the chocolate in my palm and rubbed it all over my face and pour the curry into my nose and I look messy and I put sweets on my face and I thought to myself I want to eat the chocolate and I found another chocolate and I woke up and it was all a dream and found everyone in my room: dead! And there was a giant Egyptian duck what was actually a cat and Iooked at the telematic screen onto my companions and I realized it was a weird dream because I actually hate chocolate: that’s the end.
After which, we got into our groups & started discussing as well as planning for our final performance. Tejas & Queen unfortunately could not join us for this session so we decided to proceed with the rest of us to brainstorm ideas first. The idea we came up with was that Ferran & myself will be creating an improv musical piece while Eri & Victoria will react with art pieces reacting to the musical piece. Victoria will be doing a scribble on her notepad, using the pencil sounds on the notepad as part of the music as well. With that, the initial idea was to have Tejas & Queen react to everything with an improv script as well. Basically creating a ripple effect.

Reflection on Day 4
Day 4 was a rather interesting session. The ear performance really introduced a very unusual take on improvisation, something I have never considered before. It gave me a new look on the limitations of improvisation & to always consider things that are out of our comfort zone.
Getting to work with my new mates also really opened up a new & interesting communication process with my group. Seeing how everyone contributed to the creative process with their unique minds definitely helped me see things from a different perspective & encouraged me to also contribute on a more personal level with my own individuality as well.
