Why is Dana Scully so beautiful?
(x) I am just a human being....I don’t possess the faculties to explain. I wrote a meta about this but like,,,everything falls short. I can only give a subjective explanation. In practise, I’m straight, but mean in theory (don’t ask me what this means, idk...Scully transcends preference), my ‘type’ is men/women with duality:
1. Reserved but confident, unconventionally handsome, emotionally perceptive men who don’t really like most things and people except for me/one character.
2. Female characters with a serious/sad beauty, who are intelligent and competent, serious but compassionate and loving, self-possessed but plagued by conflicting and private desires.
So, yeah I’m picky with my obsessions, and Scully is precisely that second ‘type’ and more. In all honesty, the whole reason I started watching txf is because of this episode of the Thirst Aid Kit talking about the attraction of stern men and power femmes (i.e. My Types) - the guest host credited Scully with her bi awakening, waxed poetic about the character and also how amazing Gillian Anderson is as an actress and mother, and then they played /that/ clip from the Pilot and I was like....wait a second,,,,the x files is SEXY??? Um. Yeah.
I mean her physical beauty is classic and stunning and 1940s noir timeless, but her beauty goes so far beyond that. We all know that in seasons 3-5 Scully was literally so stunning, you could barely look at her, but I love her in every season. Even when she’s all floofy and supposedly frumpy in early seasons, like maybe I’m just blind lmao but I don’t see it. LOOK. AT. HER.
And don’t get me wrong, I love Mulder too and he’s a thicc hottie with a body, but Scully....she’s something else. I love her duality, and maybe that’s the main thing. There’s such a world of emotion behind Gillian’s eyes, the mixture of innocence and maturity, femininity and masculinity, her electric reaction to Mulder and her embarrassment and confusion at that, her passion and rationality, her shyness and confidence, both guarded and warm. Also she’s like kind of hilarious. I relate to her deeply, I want to be her, and I’d say I want to be with her too but I really just want her to be with Mulder, cos a big part of why I love her is how she loves Mulder.
If anyone has a way of verbalising this more eloquently, please, be my guest. Bruh, when she smiles or laughs....endorphins straight to my fkn brain. Good night.

the image of virginia woolf talking to her sister about lesbian sex in the middle of a chemist’s shop in 1929 is never not going to be absolutely hilarious to me
