Note to vacationing non-Americans: while it’s true that America doesn’t always have the best food culture, the food in our restaurants is really not representative of what most of us eat at home.  The portions at Cheesecake Factory or IHOP are meant to be indulgent, not just “what Americans are used to.”

If you eat at a regular American household, during a regular meal where they’re not going out of their way to impress guests, you probably will not be served twelve pounds of chocolate-covered cream cheese.  Please bear this in mind before writing yet another “omg I can’t believe American food” post.

Max sometimes seeks out Nova to just be in the presence of her. After everything, good and bad, Nova’s presence is just so easy for Max to bask in. There’s no need to worry about saying the right thing, no stress over missing a social que. Because she gets it. The turmoil of post isolation.

Max really thought it’d be easier, to integrate into society. But it’s so hard. People are confusing and don’t say what they mean, or will test you for no good reason, and they just expect you to keep up. It’s terrible and it’s hard. And all Max ever wanted. He loves talking to people, he really does. He loves being able to live with his family and live outside a glass box. To have touch be so readily available. But it can be so overwhelming.

That’s where Nova comes in. Max doesn’t need to speak with Nova to be around Nova. So when the days where conversation is too taxing but being alone again is frightening, Max will seek out Nova.

Yes, either of his dads, particularly Simon, and his brother Adrian are suitable companions in the face of these hard days, but there’s just something in the way Nova looks at him when he seeks her out on these days. With understanding and compassion, that soothes Max’s soul and puts him at ease. The way she sets up a chair right next to hers so he can watch or lean on her when he catches her in the lab warms his chest.

One time he found Nova just before she was leaving HQ for the day, and so, with permission, she brought Max to her favorite rooftop to watch the sun set. They snuggled up under a blanket and she swaddled him up with said blanket on the bus ride home, tucked under her arm. When he arrived at the Everhart abode Max was welcomed with a warm plate of food that tasted like home.

I also am a SUCKER for Nova having weird little villain quirks, like planning out routes through the city completely through alleys, fire escapes, and roof tops before realizing that she doesn’t need to do that bc the ppl shes with aren’t banished criminals.

Or The Team deciding to do Completely Normal Teenager ThingTM and Nova being like what’s that? Or Nova explaining why she doesn’t celibate holidays. Or Nova having really intuitive ways of fixing house hold things/appliances bc she learned out of necessity.

I just would love to see Nova talk about her childhood and training, the good and the bad. I wanna hear about what 10-13 year old Nova was doing.

And MAX, my sweet a baby Max. I would love to see his and Nova’s relationship explored more bc they are like my two favorite characters💖💖💖💖

I think Max and Nova would bond so much over being painfully isolated children.

Paul Scheer told a story on the Light the Fuse podcast once, about two parties he went to where Tom Cruise showed up. At the first party, Tom Cruise just stood in the center of the room and a line of people formed to talk to him, and Tom Cruise talked to each one at length, giving detailed career advice, one after another. At the second party, Tom Cruise was there to see one of his kids play music with their band, and Tom Cruise stood watching the band by himself, and no one went near him because it'd be futile, he was so locked in to watch the band.
