Day 46 (11/30/17)
This quarter, I’ve been lucky enough to have a mentor who pushed me to grow personally and professionally. Throughout this span of time, he’s been a selfless individual who had dedicated so much time to bettering me and other colleagues. He truly wants the best for us and to see us grow, which is evident in all his efforts and hard work.
However, because he is so dedicated to us, sometimes he doesn’t realize his self worth and is hard on himself. But my colleagues and I️ can all agree that he has done an amazing job throughout this process and we wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to mentor us.

Day 45 (11/29/17)
Today I’m going to discuss where I️ see myself in ten years. I️n ten years, I’ll be 28. Thus, I️ would hope to be graduated from medical school and pursuing my residency, if I’m not already finished with it and pursuing a fellowship for specialization in neonatology. I’d hope to be in a long term relationship or engaged so that I️ could start a family in my early thirties. I️ would hope that I’d be financial independent and stable. And most importantly, I’d hope that I’d be happy with the state of my life and still have maintained my passion for healthcare and medicine.

Day 44 (11/28/17)
My favorite memory this quarter thus far has been going out to hang out with my new family I’ve found on campus. To start out the night, our family had a joint effort to do the blazing wing challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings. Our mouths were on fire afterwards just like our fam. ;) After, we went to play mini golf against each other in groups of twos and threes. The winners were gifted with a pool of money to spend on ice cream. You better bet we were getting all competitive with each other. Although my team didn’t win, we still got ice cream afterwards at this cool creamery. They had so many interesting flavors so we definitely sampled all of them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Altogether, that night was most memorable from this quarter.

This is my representation of Sylvia Cai. Despite my lack of artistic skills, I️ think this picture sums her up well. Her arms are open in the drawing because they represent her openness and outgoing personality. Additionally, I️ drew her arms really swole to represent that she is always there to support others. Also, her strength of her arms represents her strength in character and driven personality. You’ll be glad to meet someone like her and I’m glad to have met her this quarter.

Day 43 (11/27/17)
Who needs sleep? If you answered not me, please donate your extra hours of sleep to me because this week is going to be a busy one. On top of having an essay and quiz due this week, I also have a ton of other assignments to do. I’ve been so busy over the course of Thanksgiving break and this upcoming week that I keep forgetting to take my medicine for my infection. It’s gotten better though. Hopefully I recover fully before finals hit so I can be at my optimal level for the exams.

Day 42 (11/26/17)
Today was eventful. I️ ran so many errands today. It was good though because I️ was productive and spent my time making things for people I️ care about. I️ also came back to campus today. It was good to see my psibs again after a good break.

Day 41 (11/25/17)
I’ve been so productive today. I not only went out to do errands, but I also met up with one of my close guy friends who came back from Berkeley for Thanksgiving break. It was good seeing old friends again. Additionally, I also did my laundry, so yay for clean clothes. I also made cinnamon coffee cake, so anyone who wants some should be on the lookout when I’m back on campus.

Day 39 (11/23/17)
Wow, I’ve never gotten so much sleep this quarter. A full 12 hours of slumber has never felt so good. I️ also think I knocked out for a while due to the codeine cough syrup I’ve been taking for my upper respiratory infection. Anyways, I’m so glad it’s Thanksgiving. Today, I️ went to eat hot pot with my mom’s side of the family, and I’m looking forward to seeing my dad’s side of my family tomorrow! I️ hope everyone is enjoying this time off with their loved ones too!

Day 38 (11/22/17)
Gosh I️ am so glad it is Thanksgiving break. While I️ love being on campus with friends, I’m definitely glad to be able to spend quality time with my immediate and extended family. Also, I’m really excited for Thanksgiving dinner. Ever year, we go to my cousins’ house and have a huge family gathering with the traditional staples of thanksgiving along with bomb Vietnamese food (my dad’s side of the family is from Vietnam) and barbecued meat. I️ can’t wait to get my fill of food and see family on Thanksgiving.

Day 37 (11/21/17)
Anton is salty at me for dragging him to Fedex with me. He didn’t even do anything there. He just napped while I️ was making invites and returning Tiffany’s package. Literally, he just put the package in my hand while I️ was in line for copies and left to take a nap. This is why you should bring someone else to help with errands instead of Anton.

Day 36 (11/20/17)
Today, I shall give some advice for making and keeping friends. You see, the key to being well liked by others, according to my empirical data collected from an experiment involving my friend group, is to offer a bunch of lychee jellies to them. This method seems to yield in positive reactions, which are key for maintaining friendships. That is, unless you use this on Anton. He doesn’t like sweet things except for glazed donuts. He’s an anomaly. So, bottom line: lychee jellies make friends and Anton is weird.

Day 35 (11/19/17)
Today, I’m sharing a song, Amber Liu’s cover of Linkin Park’s One More Light: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxvhIJzqJDM
I’m sharing this song because this morning, at 2 am, I was lying in bed and listening to this song with my sister as we were having a deep conversation. While listening to its lyrics, my sister told me that this song had actually made her cry multiple times because it reminded her of a distant friend who took his/her own life after his/her longtime significant other passed away from terminal cancer. In talking with my sister, I was reminded why she is my role model. My sister told me that she felt guilty for assuming her friend’s resiliency to recover from the incident and move on with his/her life when she should have acknowledged that losing someone is immensely painful and checked up more frequently on her friend, even if they weren’t particularly close. It is my sister’s drive to become more empathetic and compassionate than she already is that makes her my role model and inspires me to be more compassionate and supportive of others. While I intend to take greater actions to do so, I’ll start by sharing the aforementioned song for anyone who is struggling through life and feels alone and afraid. I hope that in listening to its lyrics, you realize that you are worth it and someone is always there to support you, including me.

Day 34 (11/18/17)
These past few days have been rough. In addition to dealing with someone in our friend group leaving, I️ recently got really sick. I’m going to be honest, being sick, sleep deprived, and preoccupied with comforting friends about the aforementioned incident definitely affected my ability to focus on my midterm this past Friday. On the bright side, I️ came back home this weekend since my sister is only back from New York this weekend for Thanksgiving. I’m excited for her to be back but I’m kind of sad that we can’t really spend time together since I’ve just been dying in bed coughing my lungs out (I️ found out I’ve had an upper respiratory infection and got prescribed 4 sets of drugs lol) instead of spending quality time with her. I️ know this upcoming week is going to be rough because of a heavy workload of assignments. Hopefully being heavily medicated might ease the process.

Day 32 (11/16/17)
Despite getting sick from my roommate and having midterms tomorrow, today is an exciting day! My older sister is finally coming back tonight from New York. Since she lives and works there now, she rarely comes home except for big holidays. Even though she’s far away, we still talk and FaceTime each other every week. However, I’m really excited to see her in person again and look forward to our trio of troublesome siblings being able to cause a ruckus and mischief again.
