Trident Parrying Dagger
Dated: circa 1600
Culture: German
Measurements: overall length 45 cm
The dagger has a straight, double-edged blade with slightly strengthened tip and tang grooved at the borders. At the back there’s a sliding button chiselled as a flower which, once pressed, releases the lateral blades in order to block the sword hits.
The iron hilt has quillons of octagonal section, bent toward the blade and ending in grooved drops. There’s a parry ring at the front, decorated en suite. The dagger has a hexagonal pommel with hollow faces and a wooden grip with iron and brass wire bindings, plus a moor’s heads.

The inside of a narwhal’s mouth — notice that there are no visible teeth.
Narwhals do, however, have vestigial teeth, in addition to their famous tusk, which is actually a canine tooth.

Unconditional Commitment to Sacred Love by Matthew Stone. His goal with this piece of work was to replace the archetypes of traditional nude portraiture with powerfully masculine subjects.

being a student of european history and having learned a little about jean-baptiste lully through some readings on louis xiv, i was quite excited to watch opera atelier’s production of armide. i was not disappointed: the place was gorgeous (it’s only been my second time watching an opera at the elgin, so it never gets old) and the show itself was fantastic. if you live in toronto or versailles and have the chance … go see it!

The following pieces of morbid art are by Nicola Samori, a 35 year old Italian artist. He says “My work stems from fear: fear of the body, of death, of men. I think my nature as an artist is something like feeling hopeless. Works are just temporary shelters and painting is a leisure place where you can conceal yourself.”

BBC: Secrets of Bones - ep01 Size Matter
“The first one is an organic compound. It’s collagen and this gives bone it’s flexibility and durability. The opposite end of the scale here is something called calcium phosphate and this is a mineral compound and this gives bone it’s structure and strength. Combining the two makes bone the unique material it is.”
