Empathy and understanding others are so important. 💛 It can be easy to judge others and be critical of where they ended up, but we never know all the hardship they’ve been through that led them there.
(I know the comic is a bit lighter in topic, but a bit of a note in regards to news in the past few months that I haven’t been able to put into art.) I hope we can treat all people with respect and compassion, regardless of nationality or race or religion or sexual orientation - something that we see fail to happen time and time again when we look at the deplorable conditions of detained immigrants or hate-fueled attacks. If we can grow our understanding of others instead of condemning those that are different, the world could be just a bit brighter for everyone.

I keep seeing many cn ppl saying mxtx is bad and terrible and many authors (ex: priest) hates her so much. Did something happen between them?
It’s just a rumor, a terrible rumor aimed at mxtx. The truth is that mxtx is practically a recluse and doesn’t really interact with other authors enough for them to hate her. That she’s a busy fresh-out-of-the-oven university graduate also contributes to her reclusive tendency, among other things. In fact, many people in the mxtx fandom on lofter (Chinese tumblr) also belong to priest’s fandom. There isn’t any real clash between the 2 fandoms aside from ill-intended rumors.
MXTX has a lot of antifans making up rumors to blacken her name. Here’s a pretty comprehensive list of the rumors and counter-proofs compiled by a fan on lofter. You guys can google translate it out if you don’t know Chinese.
Frankly put, those people on lofter and weibo use the exact tone of voice that they use to denounce that lwj to be a boring and bland character, so one of my personal guesses is that some people are salty. They frequently tag their anti-lwj posts with the wangxian tag and use the same kind of toxic words, just like the same crowd does on tumblr. Some went one step further, showed their cards, and stated that homosexual relationship is disgusting, lwj is bland, and wwx deserves to be paired with Wen Qing or Jiang Yan Li. The people on weibo escalated thing further by literally making up a rumor that a female teacher committed suicide because she was bullied by the mxtx fandom. Passers-by, including the official weibo of the Youth Organization of the CCP, threw oil to the fire and started to slam the mxtx fandom and mxtx herself to the ground on the media and weibo without actually checking the facts first. Some, including a popular blogger on weibo who claimed that they went to Harvard, took the opportunity to condemn all homosexual contents in general, saying that the danmei genre is a nefarious plot by the queers to “corrupt the country and brainwash the gullible young people”. I kid you not that was a direct quote. A few days later, the police force officially clarified that no such teacher was founded and that they have arrested the (underage) rumor-starter and notified their parents. But most of the official media that were so vocal a few days before on the topic stayed suspiciously silent without even a mention of the police’s clarification. Some, including the blogger above, still went on a series of what-if scenarios like “we know that it’s just a rumor but what if it really happen should we ban gay contents online too oh hey what a great chance to display our homophobia” or “what if it’s in a different a different city and the police made a mistake and they left out a golden chance for us to publicly tell people how much any queer content disgusts us so”.
So yeah, mxtx has a lot of, Chinese and non-Chinese, antifans and passer-by haters just because she’s one of the most famous danmei authors around. She’s relatively young compared to the other authors, too. Easy target and all that rots.
Tbf, not everyone in the fandom likes the author personally because in the end, she’s a nearly perfect stranger to us and some people are very picky about who they like. But the emotion should be sth along the line of “vague fondness” and not, you know, “hatred”.
Well, the situation is exactly like the situation all three main characters of her novels faced, so I guess that the hardship the three main characters experienced was partly inspired by her experience in real life.

LOOK AT THIS OFFICIAL MERCH OF MXTX’S COUPLES —
1) BingQiu: we get fluffy bingbing and a knitting pretty shizun; 2) WangXian: someone get wwx down before lwj stresses himself out; 3) HuaLian: fafa’s aesthetic is still going strong even in chibi and our hobo grandpa prince with that questionnable looking cooking he made (bet you, wwx helped there)

Something remarkable about Moxiang Tongxiu’s works
Tumblr media
This table shows the statistics of Moxiang Tongxiu’s novels on JJWXC - the official webnovel platform where her works are posted. If you look at the “Score” column (second-last from the right), you can see that Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation has more than 12 billion points, while Heaven Official’s Blessing earns nearly 20 billion points - which is the highest score in the entire history of JJWXC, by the way.
Fun fact: Moxiang Tongxiu’s upcoming 4th novel, Sishen Mei You Xiuxi Ri (rough translation: There Is No Rest for The Death God), has not a single chapter yet and the score is already past 600,000,000.
Talk about being really, incredibly popular (⑉⊙.⊙)…
.
*JJWXC’s “Score” (积分) is calculated using a pretty complex geometric series formula. In simpler terms, this “Score” is a combination of the novel’s total views, review score, number of comments and a few other factors.
