really interesting that you noticed how the objects are different once you have looked at them, drawing helps us look and really see. how else could you use this?
Tumblr media
I chose my objects from things I had in the front pocket of my bag that interested me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
99 drawings at with different materials and at different speeds
Tumblr media
And then a hundredth drawing of all the other drawings...
I’ve found that the objects now feel really important - having spent two days really looking at them and studying them they are more than just random things I had at the bottom of my bag.

what a wonderful start. you will find your drawings change the more you draw the same thing
Tumblr media
Thought I would start off with small quick sketches of my object, which are salt and pepper shakers. Only 3 out of my 100 drawings so far but relatively happy with the outcome and excited to see my drawings progress as I do more !!

keeping warm 2
Hello and welcome to the second “Keeping warm” Update for the Foundation Art and Design course at  WMC.
So, by now you should have started a Blog and Sketchbook. Don’t worry if you haven’t, guidance about how to do this is attached to your offer letter, or email [email protected] if you have any queries.
Every 2 weeks or so we will be sending out one of these updates, this is not compulsory work to do, but we wanted to give you activities and ideas to work on in the run up to the course starting in September, particularly as so many of you are now no longer studying for you’re A levels or Btecs.
Activity 1:
Visit a gallery- yes really!
Many galleries are now showing their collections online, you can watch video tours, browse collections or click around a virtual reality gallery.
Places to start:
https://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/bp-portrait-award-2020/virtual-exhibition
https://wallacelive.wallacecollection.org/eMP/eMuseumPlus
https://courtauld.ac.uk/gallery/about/3d-gallery-virtual-tour
https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/virtual-tours https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/virtual-tours
You could have a look at galleries abroad that you would never get to visit! How about a tour around the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Or the Guggenheim in Bilbao??
Have a look round the gallery and do the following:
Find something that goes with what you are wearing
Find two things that you think are opposite in every way
Listen to some music, find the thing that goes with the music best
Spend 30 mins with one piece, look and look and look. What do you notice you didn't see initially? How do you feel after that time?
Find the thing in the gallery you think is neglected. Why don’t visitors notice it? How can you bring attention to it?
Look at the spaces between the art works. (this will be interesting on a website, what are the “spaces”? )
Look at a work from as far away as you can get and as close as you are allowed. How is it different? How does it change? (again, how do you do this on a screen?)
Find an artwork you think you could make at home, make it better
Find something would like to have on the wall at home
Find something you could give to your Grandma as a present
Show someone else around the gallery you have just visited.
Document these things on your blog. If you don’t want to write lots could you video or audio record yourself? Draw a cartoon of your gallery visit. Consider how you can record your gallery visit in a meaningful and useful way, so you remember what you gained from the visit and the activity.
Activity 2:
Get out an about, now we can go out to parks and other open spaces try some of the following, again, consider how you can record these things and your response to them
Go to a place
Make a sculpture that shows how you feel in the space. Put it in the space.
Draw the people you see, try to not let them see you, be quick and stealthy!
Listen to conversations– imagine what they are talking about and where they are going
Collect litter. use it in a collage of the place
Do a MASSIVE drawing
Group some objects you find together . Leave them there. Go back the next day, see what happed to them.
Do a performance, see what people do, how do you feel?
Find a collection of objects that remind you of your place, make a museum of them. Label everything
Activity 3:
Get involved in other stuff. There are LOADS of other online opportunities to get creative around now. Have a go and post the results on your blog, recommend activities to other bloggers from the course.

I really like the cropped images,  put thereto out of sequence, they give the idea of a tiny squashed room!
Tumblr media
An A2 painting I made today of my friend and I in a strange bathroom that had two toilets. I focused on using thick black outlines to give everything a heavy definition
