It only took an intense grilling and immediate ass-chewing for not saying something before or asking for help from his uncle, but the situation has been Admitted To.

"Er--" Smiling bashfully, Jaden gave a nonchalant shrug and bob of the head as he answered with, "We don't have to." Which was an intentional misread of the situation. Only a fool would miss how excited Judas was at the prospect of having a wedding, but Jaden wanted to maintain the idea that they both had a choice in how things went. "I'm more than fine just saying we're married now," he shrugs, "Not like we have any paperwork to fill out since we're both living off-grid and undocumented."
While they talked, Dennis used the opportunity to peel himself away from the kitchen area and busy himself with the task of setting the table. It didn't quiet his head or his heart, but it kept him busy, focused on something else besides his emotional turmoil. There wasn't exactly disapproval going on in there, at least not as far as he could tell, but there was something. It felt heavy, dark, and nasty, and he mentally cursed Gramps for always nagging him and teaching him to be more emotionally aware of himself because as soon as he gave it some thought - despite his best efforts to just ignore it - he knew what was going on.
He was jealous.
Jaden and Judas were growing closer with each other. Dennis was losing an uncle and a friend to exact same people, and he hated how he felt because it was so stupid of him to be feeling this way since they weren't going anywhere or doing anything. They were just doing what normal people and normal couples which is marry, live in bliss for a bit, have a kid (like him; maybe literally him), start fighting, edge closer and closer to a divorce and--
Nope. He's banishing this thought now. He refuses to have it and to entertain it because that isn't going to happen to them.
It can't.
A pin drop could be heard throughout the whole house with how suddenly quiet everything became. There was only the gentle sizzling of the rice cooking in the pan to break the silence and the firm snap of Jaden turning the burner off because they were apparently having this conversation now, not over supper.
And Dennis just stared blankly at Judas, watching the way his friend/uncle/brother's body heaved and trembled with worry before looking towards Jaden, who simply turned to face the two of them in a cool, calm, collected manner. His eyes then went back to Judas, trailing down his arm and to the hand attached onto it, where the ring just sat there, looking chunky and pretty and interesting, but...
Dennis flexed his fingers against the small stack of plates in his hands and did everything he could to keep his expression neutral. There was a mess erupting in his head and heart right now, but he didn't want to touch any of it. Not right now. He needed to be calm now, like Jaden, and act with grace and just say something casual like, "Oh."
Nailed it.
Tumblr media
Jaden couldn't help but curiously tilt his head and furrow his brow. "We haven't planned anything yet," he offered, "I just put a ring on it finally, ya know?"

Message received, loud and clear.
Jaden is annoyed about it and huffing his frustration through a sigh as he lowers everything but his own damn shoulders down, almost but not quite taking on a relaxed stance before the beast. But look, see, he's stopped approaching; The crowbar is lowered and not going down any throats.
"I know you're intelligent enough to understand what's happening, and what I'm going to try doing. So do you want help or not?"
@anotherhumanpet replied...
Does it need help with the jingling? Jaden will attempt a removal if there is distress.
Well, yes, it is rather distressed.
But extracting a small bell from the throat-crop of a frantic, bus-sized beast probably isn't a great idea.
Or a safe one, anyway.

And that is where crowbars coming in handy, for reaching into those dicey places you don't want to stick your hand in and risk limb loss over.
Now say ah, you dumb beast.

It takes a minute for Dennis to click everything into place. The odd way of naming/describing of Christmas slows down the thought process a tad bit, but once he figures out what it is Ratchet means the boy lets out a quiet, "Oh!" And then, he fidgets in his seat, unsure of what to ask for or where to go. In all truthfulness, he wasn't really expecting anything from Ratchet - neither around the holiday, and certainly at this point in time.
"You don't have to get me anything, Ratchet." He shrugs in an effort to keep things casual. "It's cool."
And it's the lack of detailing that tips Dennis off, although he can't quite discern what about it feels so wrong other than it's just not like Ratchet to be secretive or opaque with him. He doesn't worry about it though. Chances are, the CMO just has a surprise and is being coy about it rather than deceptive.
Although he does startle a little at the swiftness of Ratchet's arrival, having momentarily forgot that groundbridges exist and make travel times much shorter than one would normally expect. It takes him only a minute to get his shoes on, his phone, keys, and wallet tucked into their rightful pockets, and himself out the door so he can meet up with the ambulance and crawl through the waiting, open door into the open seat. "Hey Ratchet!"
