“hmmm…i’ll bite. let’s say it was a nice gesture.” the brunette smiled, putting some of her other things into her purse and zipping it closed. she circled around her desk, eyeing the other savage up and down, as a smile formed over her lips. “thank you, gabriel. i appreciate the company and to be honest, i was thinking about taking a small walk, so you’ll definitely be welcomed.” however, she’s still wondering why he came to her in the first place. whenever a savage came to stephanie, the brunette thought long and hard about the reason behind the visit. she was suspicious like that.
“You’ll bite? Bite what? What lure did I send out?” It was a genuine question, confused even as the man hadn’t known she worked in the facility until he had passed the door, after his wandering already became fortuitous. And the quiet, albeit polite man rarely spoke ill to or of anyone that her words were far too suspicious for all the wrong reasons. “It doesn’t sound honest at all,” he remarked, though the lightness of words suggested no investment in the thought, as he gestured out the door to walk beside her. “At least I’m not a patient bothering you for last minute emergencies. You know, the bloody hangnail or the aches in their legs. I don’t miss the small troubles of places like these.”

Stephanie Dubois and Gabriel Abernathy‌

stephanie craved a moment of peace. a moment of utter bliss where she didn’t have to talk or acknowledge other savages. steph herself wasn’t a true savage, she gave ZERO fucks about the gang all together. “gabriel…” she greeted, sitting back into her chair and motioning for him to get comfortable in the chair on the other side of her desk. did everyone and their mothers knew she was working at the clinic? it was supposed to be a secret thing? “i’ve had a splendid work day, thank you very much. how may i assist you? i’m sure you’re here to ask something of me…so shoot?”
He raised a hand while shaking his head, a polite dismissal as he remained at the door. “It was a jest. I came for my own reasons, saw you in passing and stopped to say hello,” he spoke with a smile, readjusting his bag over his shoulder as if he was obscuring its contents from awareness. It was a white lie to say he wasn’t using her presence to aid his journey, but it was a minor addition he hadn’t planned that made for convenient denial. “That being said I was going to walk with you out.” The statement sounded more like a question, as if he was asking her to join him.

Amina Nureyeva and Gabriel Abernathy‌
Sat at the bar with her nearly untouched whiskey sour, the woman appeared completely lost in her thoughts. However, Amina knew better than to allow herself to daydream in such a setting and looked up the moment she sensed the other’s presence next to her. “I wouldn’t necessarily sit there,” she advised and nodded towards the free stool next to her. “The last person hadn’t apparently mastered the art of drinking without spilling his beer everywhere. I’m sure it’s sticky.” She glanced at them. “Besides, they had a real stench about them.”
Tumblr media
“While not surprising, I appreciate that,” he sighed, picking up his bag from where he tossed it and moving to the seat on the opposing side of the woman. Surely there was something to be said for how close he chose to sit next to her at both opportunities, but the implications were far from his mind when he slumped into the stool as haphazardly as he intended to before he was politely stopped. A scotch and soda order later and a long rub to his face, Gabriel sighed and straightened his posture, hopefully he regain some appearance of composure before his eyes began to wander. “Hopefully he didn’t turn you off from enjoying your own drink,” he spoke, nodding to her glass. “I can’t say I’d blame you, though, if that were the case.”

Ariella Coyle and Gabriel Abernathy.‌
“private practice certainly seems more ideal. there’s a measure of control over your patients. or at least their frequency.” ariella nodded along to the decision as if it were something they were pondering together and she was encouraging him to do it. her preference would be to practice privately if she had ever ventured down the path of being a medical professional. but she hadn’t, nor would she ever. still she watched him as he s h i f t e d this way and that, fiddled with his jacket, and the corners of her lips remained upturned. now she sprang her trap —— set forth her plan and the churning gears moved outward to her lips in vocalization. “if i told you i was suffering from hysteria, what would you recommend? it’s quite horrible. i can’t concentrate.” now she sat back in her seat with shoulders lax and eyes locked on his face. she wanted to s e e his expression as he came to understand what it was she was asking, or very boldly intending.
Tumblr media
“And there’s a personable aspect to private practice.” The line was almost defensive, the inner workings of him shutting down making themselves more apparent than he wished, though when he repeated the words in his head, he was sure he imagined the tell. Shifty eyes scanned her carefully, the lines of wrinkles between his brows betray any smile he attempted in the moment of silence before she spoke. And then she spoke and context fell into place. He had to look away, he had to laugh at himself as much as how clever her setup had been, how smooth of a line it was that he couldn’t deny the bait-- and curiosity reformed in full bloom. He had to think before he returned the gaze, a moment she could appreciate acknowledging she had caught him off guard, grinning lightly as he nodded, “I’d suggest achieving hysterical paroxysm, recommended especially for chronic sufferers.” His cheeks burned faintly, not knowing the last time someone made him blush at an idea, or maybe his own foolishness. “I know a place where we’d have the privacy for treatment.”

Ariella Coyle and Gabriel Coyle‌
“thanks, it’s the only one i have.” lips pursed in an attempt to keep from snickering at her own lame joke but the evidence is in her eyes. there’s a m i s c h i e v o u s glimmer there that suggests the cogs in her mind are turning rapidly. an idea formed; a plan ready to be executed. all it took was a careful moment to do it. ariella shifted slightly in her seat, readjusted herself and leaned back into the table as if their conversation were much more private in intention than it actually was. “ah yes, the walking medical google, as it were. do you practice privately or are you at a clinic?” people’s careers were always so interesting to ariella. she who in all of her twenty-eight years never once held down a job. she wasn’t qualified for anything, and of the many talents she garnered with hobbies and various competitions none of them seemed appropriate for adulthood. “do you practice a more old-fashioned method, or are you a fan of the more modern means?” for now she ignored his question, but the glimmer in her eyes n e v e r dissipated or lessened.
Tumblr media
His head cocked to the side as he placed down his cup, too mindful of its location yet equally aware of how closer she settled. For two people still alien from each other, it would definitely appear to any onlooker as if they were old acquaintances, as if he already understood and knew her quirks as intimately as his mind was encouraging him to learn. “I practice privately,” he replied, “it’s more personable that way.” Though the smile faded from his lips and the openness he freely gave suddenly felt dangerous. Gabriel readjusted himself in further back in his chair, gaze darting over her with furrowed brows at the very pointed questions that seemed to pass through him like air. He fiddled with the buttons on his jacket, made sure they were still closed lest he be further exposed-- whether she knew it or not, whether she intended it, he tried to find in her dark hues. A stranger who seemed to know him intimately, or asked very lucky questions that made him clear his voice, try to recover back to the soft smile that formerly christened his lips. “A little of both. There’s something to accredit to a time when they tried the best they could based upon limited understanding. Don’t you think?”

Ariella Coyle and Gabriel Abernathy‌
“for a reason. i’ve never heard of this town before then.” ariella shrugged —— the details and semantics of her visiting valdez were more than personal, she wouldn’t risk any information about madden to a stranger just because of her excitement to find him. and she was excited. two halves piecing together into one f r a c t u r e d whole after so long apart was certainly something to feel about. but in this moment all ariella could feel was amusement and undeniable interest in the body across from her. “ah, the archangel gabriel. he was a l w a y s my favorite.” she reached across the table to clasp his hand in a firm shake, though the grin refused outright to fade from her visage. it seemed as if she was doomed to be permanently entranced by whatever nonsense came from either of their lips. it was a game. she loved games. “ariella. it’s a pleasure. so —— can i ask how often people spill their guts to you about personal medical maladies when they find out you’re a doctor? i feel like that’d be often and annoying.”
Tumblr media
There it was again, that quick dismissal hidden behind nonchalant facts that made his jaw careen open to antagonize only to promptly snapping shut. Who was he to question? The good doctor’s life, so proclaimed by title, was the film over the whole that veiled the layers beneath. He could understand her carefulness for privacy, appreciate her cleverness for controlling the conversation however subtle it was, even if his interest egged him to press on. “That’s a beautiful name,” he murmured, stifling other words from spilling forth before huffing a laugh and shaking his head. “Far too often, though it usually comes when I’ve run into them a second time. They have to get over the awkward ‘I just met you’ phase and then suddenly I’m a living and more creditable WebMD. And... yes, it can be tiresome.” He brought his coffee to his lips, hovering there when he glanced her over, speaking before he sipped, “Why? Are you testing the waters to ask me about your ailments?”

Ariella Coyle and Gabriel Abernathy‌
“not a weather man.” ariella repeated though it was l e s s of a response and more to herself, as if pounding in a finite answer to a question. he seemed too official to be anything casual. weather men definitely carried themselves with an official air about them, or at least they seemed that way on the television. his continued explanation of why though, that had her snorting softly into the palm of her hand as she covered the grin that spread wider on her face. he was charming. “i was on a plane coming in.” a town or two away considering valdez didn’t have it’s own airport. she’d heard almost immediately about the fire once she landed but the meteor shower was something she’d been tracking for a few days through the weather and news. in e a r n e s t she was sorry that she missed it. “definitely not interesting in comparison to meteor showers. so,” ariella leaned forward, shifting her hand to her chin and pressing her elbow into the table between them, “if you’re not a weather man, what do you do?”
Tumblr media
“It’s interesting enough that you landed yourself in Valdez. Either you come here for a reason or a reason comes up for you to stay. It’s interesting to ponder which it is for you.” There was no doubt he happened upon the city, stumbling through others with half lidded eyes until he tripped here-- tripped and stayed when the city lured him and found use in him. Perhaps he didn’t mind being used, his own whim occasionally as flimsy as the weather they discussed, or pandered past while trying to grasp at the threads of the new. How quickly she denounced details about herself less than the grains of sand burning through the atmosphere; she garnered curiosity, whether she intended it or not, with an air of mystery worn as a shield that easily deflected conversation about her back to him. It made his smile solidify with a piqued focus on her gaze that still shifted away to the floor but only darted back to hers. “I’m a doctor. Forgive my manners. Gabriel,” he introduced, holding out his hand. “And welcome to the city.”

steph was almost at the end of her workday, her feet killing her since she had decided to wear heels to work today. red bottom louboutins - actually to DIE for. AT THE CLINIC. was she crazy? she must’ve been, given she was alrady numb, the pain tiring her all day. the brunette was putting all of her things in her handbag when she heard the door of her cabinet opening. “i’m done for the day, you can go to dr. specter.” she said, the tone of her voice flat as she continued getting ready to leave, not looking up.
“But I’m coming to you. Hello, Stephanie,” he greeted, his fingers tapping pointed rhythmic beats on the door post. His matter of fact tone was more than sure, if not hoping the woman would amuse him for a short period of time. He shifted on his feet, weight teetering from side to side as if ready to move himself, half betraying his intent. “I gather you’ve had a great work day, so eager to leave it behind.”

37: One of my insecurities
“I’m easily flustered when I get upset, so much so that I’ll become flustered thinking about it happening. I’ll become even more upset when I realized I’m doing it, and it creates this cyclical relationship between the two. I hate that I do it, I don’t enjoy anyone witnessing it, but I can’t help myself.”

🍻 + “ what have you done that people would judge you most for doing ?” // from jace!
“Now that… that’s unfair an question,” he slurred out, pointing at the other several times, scolding him with a mouth pursed closed or perhaps telling him all about it without uttering a word. Even Gabriel couldn’t figure which he preferred, the swirl and slosh of thoughts were too difficult to grasp and form into words for the moment, too many thought processes that if his lips parted now each would fight their way out into a mess of words. And he almost forgot the question, the silence between his words he was hoping would suggest to leave it be and never bring it up again but Jace’s voice echoed back into his thoughts, his own head repeating the question for the other which made Gabriel grimace slightly. “Probably that I’m still working as a doctor. If they knew about my paperwork… I’m a good doctor, fuck them.”

Ariella Coyle and Gabriel Abernathy‌
it was hard to keep the s m i r k from forcing its way onto her lips. as the man rambled ariella found it sneaking on, s t r e t c h i n g her mouth into the crescent shape that so often marked mischief throughout her youth and teenage years. on he went like a perfectly round stone down a sharp incline but not once did ariella shift to interrupt. when he came to his sudden stop, the a p o l o g y even, she found herself chewing on her lower lip. there was some anticipation that he’d continue, but instead there was a moment of silence. “i’m a bit sorry i missed this one, i’d say i’m interested. —— are you a weather man? you have some knowledge on the topic of meteor showers. i just think it’s p r e t t y.” he was handsome, his rambling was cute … overall it wasn’t a bother. ariella quite liked the company.
Tumblr media
His own tiers were stretching thin, fighting an uneven battle to contain his smile to remain pleasant rather than wide like a fool laughing at himself and matching hers. “No, no I’m not a weatherman. I’d be too forward and direct with my reports, end up staring at the camera when I’m supposed to be filling the time with chatter. I’d be fired the first day.” Or at least he’d hope so in such a situation, but that was far more than he needed to share and waste her time. It was funny how mindful he was of his words, careful to critique how little or how much he spoke when with anyone else his consideration wasn’t as keen-- how the smile of a beautiful woman, without intention or inclination, was enough to produce such a response. “I simply enjoy understanding what’s before me. I’d feel shallow, otherwise. You, however, must have had more important things to do than to stare at the night for brief bursts of light.”

“ who are you, really ?”
“I’m just a doctor.” He shrugged as he spoke, the statement seemingly too short even for him to deem it enough, too short to be the truth he veiled himself from seeing. “I used to be a surgeon,” he added, a long pause breaking the sentence as he thought on how to continue, “but when I came to the States it was easier to fall into general practice, make my living as a visiting physician, or a practitioner when needed.” He shoved the mug into mouth, downing the rest of his unknown number drink and letting the world teeter with the swirl of fumes that finally reached his head. “That’s all, really. I just to want help people, no matter the cost… no matter who pays it.”
