I am a princess. All girls are! Even if they live in tiny old attics, even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young, they’re still princesses - all of us! 

This was one of two movies that actually made me cry as a child. 

As an adult I can see the problematic aspects of it (there must be a paper out there on exoticism/colonialism, despite the location change) but I still feel its heart. I appreciate the genuineness of the sentiments it wants to get across. And I still weep.

Just as they reach the door, and as David steps out, Mia turns and looks back at Sebastian. He looks at her.

Their eyes lock.

A hint of a tear in both… And, ever so subtly, for just a fleeting second, Mia smiles.

It’s the kind of smile you could miss if you blinked – but it’s enough to signal to Sebastian that she recognized the melody he played, and that she still remembers it, and still thinks of it to this day…

Then she walks out the door.

St. Lucia Day, a holiday celebrated during the Swedish Christmas season, is observed on December 13, their darkest day of the year.  Saint Lucia Day begins the Swedish Christmas holiday.

Traditionally, a daughter of the family wears a white gown with a red sash & wears the Saint Lucia wreath of candles on her head–symbolizing the anticipation of brighter days. At four o'clock in the morning on Saint Lucia Day, she lights the candles in her wreath & wakes the family, carrying a tray of breakfast treats & decorations. The Saint Lucia tray carries coffee & sweet buns in a double spiral shape called a Kuse. Covered with a hand woven cloth, a Swedish family treasure, the tray also carries a candle to light Saint Lucia’s way & some holiday greenery.
