A Request

Hey, so sometimes when I’m browsing social media I’ll see people make posts or memes where they praise Inverted Fate while making fun of other AUs.

While I appreciate that people want to promote my work, I’d rather IF not be used to shame other artists or fan creators. It’s never fun to praise one work while tearing into another in the same breath.

I may have a lot of gripes with certain types of AUs and fan content, but I’d rather my work be a positive experience and not one that people grow to resent because my fans use it to punch down.

Fallen Humans Masterpost

(undertale spoilers)

In order to destroy the barrier, the monsters need a power equivalent to seven human souls. After Chara and before Frisk, six more humans fell into the underground. The following is a breakdown of facts, circumstantial evidence, and unconfirmed theories on the fallen humans.

Facts

Including Chara and Frisk, eight humans have fallen into the underground.

Six human souls were taken from the fallen humans.

The souls of the fallen humans are each a different color.

The humans have a power called “determination” in their souls.

“Determination” was extracted from the human souls.

Beyond this, everything must be theorized using evidence.

Circumstantial Evidence

The fallen humans were children.

In Asriel’s room, the shoe box is filled with an assortment of kids’ shoes.

None of the Dreemurrs, including Asriel, wear shoes. It’s unlikely these shoes belonged to Asriel.

In an interview, Toby Fox referred to the humans as “children.”

The fallen humans had control over the timeline – the power to save, load, and reset.

All humans have determination.

Toriel mentions how she often feels she already knows the fallen humans.

Asgore does not question Frisk’s comments about dying more than once to him.

Determination only brings one back if they are “determined to live.” It’s very likely that the fallen children eventually gave up when fighting Asgore.

Toriel met the fallen humans.

Toriel knows the fate of every fallen human – “They come. They leave. They die.”

Toriel presumably left after Asgore’s declaration of war, considering she only took Chara’s body with her to bury.

The fallen humans fell into the Ruins.

Based on the evidence above, Toriel met all the humans, and she has been locked up in the Ruins since Asgore declared war.

Toriel wants to destroy the Ruins’ exit, so that “no one will ever be able to leave again.”

The fallen humans were killed by Asgore.

The humans left Toriel.

Undyne proudly states that “No human has EVER made it past ASGORE!”

Asgore is not perturbed by Frisk’s claims of being killed numerous times.

Each human had a different main trait.

Each human soul is a different color.

The Snowdin Ball Game provides a different trait for each colored flag.

The colored flags correspond with the colors of the human souls.

The pairs of weapons and armor found throughout the underground belonged to the fallen humans.

While Toy Knife and Ribbon don’t have any obvious connection, the other item pairs have a theme. Example: Tough Glove and Manly Bandana are for a fighter. Old Tutu and Ballet Shoes are for a ballerina.

Bullets in the shape of these weapons appear in the human soul segments of Photoshop Flowey’s fight.

Toy Knife appears for light blue. Tough Glove appears for orange. Ballet Shoes appear for blue. Torn Notebook appears for purple. Burnt Pan appears for green. Empty Gun appears for yellow.

The appearance of the weapons in the underground matches the order found in the human soul segments in Photoshop Flowey’s fight.

The sprites for the weapon-shaped bullets start with “spr_6″.

None of the humans besides Chara and Frisk met Flowey.

Flowey never lost control of the timeline until Frisk fell down.

Evidence supports the idea that the fallen humans had the power to control the timeline.

Flowey hasn’t existed for very long.

Popular but Unconfirmed Theories

“The discarded items are markers of where the fallen humans died.”

According to Toriel, every human came and left her.

The first two items are found in the Ruins. Asgore should not have been able to kill a human inside the Ruins and collect their soul.

It’s possible the items were discarded by the humans for better items.

It’s unlikely the items have stayed in the same spot since they were discarded.

A few of the items are mass produced by shopkeepers, meaning the originals could be elsewhere.

The fallen humans were killed by Asgore.

“The fallen human with the blue soul (Integrity) killed monsters.”

The tutu being dusty is likely from being abandoned and disuse

The item checks can be rather sarcastic.

Chara wouldn’t know the fallen human since they only just woke up thanks to “you.”

No monsters mention any previous killer human.

There is no concrete evidence that Integrity killed monsters.

“The red soul trait is determination.”

Unlike the other colors, red does not have a trait listed in the Snowdin Ball Game.

There is a common misconception that the word “Determination” is in red in the genocide route, but this is never the case.

Determination is the power to change fate and the will to live. It is a physical component inside human souls.

Determination actually has more connection with the color yellow (or gold). This is not to replace it for Justice, but this may be the color of the physical determination that is extracted from the souls.

There is evidence that the red soul’s trait is “being yourself.”

“The humans didn’t have to die to destroy the barrier.”

There is an idea that the fallen humans could destroy the barrier if they were alive.

However, it’s said that “if a huge power, equivalent to seven human SOULs, attacks the barrier… It will be destroyed.”

Aside from magicians, humans “will never know the joy of expressing themselves through magic.”

If it’s true that humans cannot use magic, that means they would not be able to harness this soul power to attack the barrier.

Entry Number 2 reveals that “the barrier is locked by SOUL power.” It’s possible the magicians used human souls as components to create the barrier.

“The fallen humans come back to life after Asriel destroyed the barrier.”

After Asriel’s battle, the coffins are opened.

The sprites are called spr_coffin_open.

However, there is no evidence that the humans came back to life.

Unlike the humans, the monsters didn’t get their souls removed – their whole beings were absorbed. This is presumably why the monsters didn’t perish upon being absorbed.

It’s possible that the bodies were buried while Frisk was sleeping, or the bodies disappeared with the human souls when Asriel returned everyone.

Coming back to life is the most unlikely of possibilities because the humans are gone, no one mentions them, and it’s unlikely the monsters knew how to perfectly preserve human bodies. (There would be no reason for them to do so either.)

There is no evidence for what exactly happened – it’s a loose end with different possibilities. 

Conclusion

There is very little known about the other six fallen humans. Their main purpose seems to be plot related: to put significance on Frisk, who’s soul is needed to break the barrier, as well as to provide conflict for Toriel and Asgore, both internally and externally. However, by pairing together the soul trait and items, some characterization can be gleaned. Beyond that, it is left to conjecture.

How do you feel about Game Theory's new Undertale video? It doesn't feel like anything conflicts with the lore, other than the fact he said Sans bleeds, even though it's ketchup. Though oddly enough, we don't see Sans turn to dust.

It is interesting, but there are a few reasons as to why we weren’t completely satisfied with it. The first you already stated, which is that Sans is likely bleeding ketchup. It’s not confirmed, but the “blood” is coincidentally the same exact color as the ketchup. (And this red is different from the red heart/soul and the red text.) It also wouldn’t make sense that Sans bleeds if the machine he traveled in destroyed his organs, including the heart. (Bones are made up of both organic and inorganic material, so we’ll let his skeleton body slide for now.)

Second, Sans has an interest in science, which would explain his knowledge of the sun. As Papyrus said, Sans loves “spacey sci-fi stuff”, especially when it’s real. And if Sans was a scientist as we have theorized, then there is even more reason for him to know what the sun is. Papyrus, on the other hand, hasn’t shown any interest in science, which is probably why he doesn’t recognize the sun. (And Sans’ choice of words, “we call that ‘the sun,’ my friend”, was likely a ribbing at Papyrus.)

Third, the marking on Papyrus’ battle body is likely just a nod to Earthbound. The outfit was made “a few weeks ago for a costume party” before Frisk arrived, so Papyrus only recently started wearing it. It is possible Papyrus wore regular clothes like his brother up until then.

The most important reason, however, is the photo album in Sans’ lab. 

If Sans truly was Ness and had photos of himself and his friends who are the “people you don’t recognize”, Frisk and Narra!Chara would not be able to recognize Sans either. He would have been a human in the photos. And Sans and Ness don’t look similar enough to each other, even with their standing stances. This is the biggest hole in the theory.

The theory does outline several interesting coincidences between Earthbound, Toby’s Earthbound hack, and Undertale. But these are likely just coincidences or references that Toby added as easter eggs. Other connections, such as the Megalovania song, amalgamates, and flowers in the Earthbound hack are probably just ideas reused in Undertale with no intention of tying the two together.

Alas, as interesting as it was, the theory falls flat. But it was still an enjoyable video.

and why did people ignore the FACTS on it? because the op didn't know papyrus is younger than sans. people literally ignored that even if papyrus was younger, ALL EVIDENCES THE OP MENTIONED WERE FACTS ABOUT PAPYRUS, EVEN IF THE MAIN IDEA "PAPYRUS IS OLDER" ISN'T TRUE .

so I'm making this post for two reasons: assuring these facts, and talking about the fact that sans doesn't see papyrus as "someone to protect" , as i promised here .

CANON SKELEBROS

we know, how people mischaracterize them (yes , even sans is mischaracterized) for many reasons, but the most two reasons i suppose are the stereotypes about older and younger siblings ,and not paying attention to the canon implications about them .

but even worse , people seem to characterise sans and papyrus depending and ONLY depending on the "papyrus is younger than sans" and then after they ignored every fact else , they characterise both of them in a stereotypical relationship/traits of younger and older siblings characterisations.

and guess what? even stereotypically, PAPYRUS IN GAME ACTS LIKE THE (STEREOTYPICAL) OLDER BROTHER. AND SANS HAS EVEN ZERO OLDER BROTHER (STEREOTYPICAL) TRAITS.

you know what does that mean ?

THEY JUST SAID "OH , SO SANS IS OLDER?" THEN GIVE HIM EVERY STEREOTYPICAL OLD BRO TRAITS THAT HE DOESN'T HAVE . SAME WITH PAPYRUS.

ahem . so let's go and see how papyrus acts like an older brother,and sans as a younger one (STEREOTYPICALLY, then I'll explain how siblings work irl later in this post) :

1- who takes the most responsibilities , and make sure the other one is also taking (and not ignoring) his responsibilities ?

i think his name popped up to your mind .

it's PAPYRUS. why?

- he works as a MAYOR to snowdin, and pushed sans to work as a sentry . (they both btw work in illegal way XD)

-above that responsibility, he also has house work (an evidence: even if your sibling's room has nuclear wastes , you would NEVER clean it yourself , ever , whatever your sibling give you to do it . and you see how their entire house is clean except for sans' room XD)

- above that responsibility, papyrus also works on giving frisk the self conference and acts silly when sans is around to cheer them up , and being their friend . yes sans helped papyrus in some of that , but not all of it . so the bigger responsibility is on papyrus' shoulders.

-above that responsibility, he literally made the pacifist ending possible, and planned with flowey . sans didn't help much in this because he wasn't aware of papyrus plan with flowey until too late . (this doesn't mean he doesn't help at all )

-and above all of these responsibilities, despite him having troubles just as sans does, he didn't let it to stop him from taking care of many situations, unlike sans . you say "but sans is depressed" and so? papyrus also has signs of depression/mania , but he deals with it differently than sans , in more responsible way .

-and above all , he also works on something at nights, that he doesn't sleep much . (maybe the thing he does is up to headcanons)

1-0 for papyrus.

2- WHO IS THE MORE BOSSY ONE ?

easy , its papyrus . and that's clear from him pushing sans into work point above .

3- WHO CONSIDERS THE OTHER ONE AS "SOMEONE WHO I LOOK UP TO " MORE ?

sans . he says this many times , with no winks or jokes . he directly admits it .

- if papyrus doesn't sleep, then sans reading a bed time story is actually for himself, not for papyrus.

also i wanted to add:

sans doesn't look at papyrus as someone who needs protection. never did . never will do .

he was sure that papyrus is more than able to defeat you . he won't ever jump at papyrus and take the hit .

and also add that he doesn't know papyrus' plan details . so he never expected papyrus to show you mercy in genocide . and even if he knew papyrus plan , he still trusts papyrus' powers,even more than his . (even papyrus himself didn't expect you to be able to one -hit him )

and about siblings irl:

they don't act much like the stereotypes. it more depends on someone's personality, not their age /order in the family . you can see an energetic older sibling , and a quiet younger sibling. you can see a trouble-maker older sibling and their younger siblings trying to fix the troubles they've made. that's totally normal and common . also it depends on their parents relationship and if they make sure no sibling is jealous of the other , and no sibling is treated differently than the other .

(damn i wish i could make the whole fandom to read this 🙁 they made me suffer-)

so i’m pretty convinced every dark world in deltarune is tied to a specific lightner and their feelings about the real world. 

so noelle’s is pretty obvious right, i’m not the first one to say these things obvi 

- noelle is controlled by an overbearing mother figure

- cyber city is a place of sparkling lights that noelle always wanted dess to take her to 

- she learns to stand up for herself/know her own strength

we can infer that this is based off noelle’s own life because of things like berdly pretty much piggybacking off her even now, and noelle’s mom being implied to be the mayor, which means she’s probably very busy and may be a stricter parent 

we know a LOT less about susies personal life than noelle but i think its pretty reasonable to assume ch 1′s world is for susie 

- she’s shown kindness by lancer which allows her to lower her guard and befriend someone

- she learns to drop her bully facade 

cool, yeah, but if queen was like a dark world version of noelle’s mom, what does that make king?

- everyone in the card kingdom is reluctant to fight you, but king is forcing them 

- king doesn’t back down no matter what and takes everything as an invitation to fight, no matter how small or unrelated

- SAYS one of susie’s lines

that line is from this scene:

all kris did was walk into the hallway as susie ate the chalk- she’s taking anything as an excuse to go on the offense 

SO: king is supposed to be a reflection of the person susie is acting like now. if susie is able to see how kings actions affect card kingdom (and lancer, her friend) she can learn that always trying to fight people before they can fight you isn’t the way 

that being said the dark world i don’t see people talk about as much is castle town

SO. castle town huh??? its an entirely empty town, with only ralsei, the lonely prince, inside of it. What Does That Mean.

i think castle town is kris’ dark world. 

castle town is a small town, just like hometown, and it’s clear kris feels alienated from the other people in hometown: theyve expressed a desire to have horns grow just like their family, and theyre the only human in town, seemingly even not liking to look at other humans. they’re also usually quiet and reserved, especially compared to the town’s darling boy asriel, so 9 times out of 10, the people in town will talk about kris’ brother to them instead of talking to kris. 

so an empty town would be a pretty good representation of how kris feels about their hometown. 

about ralsei, a lot of people think he’s connected to asriel in some way or some form (reasonably), but taking a step back to look at ralsei:

- the only one in castle town

- a goat

- an anagram of asriel- it’s a different name, but it’s clearly just a diminuitive version of the original (asriel)

- asriel is college age while kris is a teenager; ralsei is kris’ age 

- the only darkner in the prophecy 

- 

has reddish-pink horns and eyes 

i don’t think ralsei is supposed to be asriel of some kind. 

i think ralsei is a reflection of kris. 

going back to the goat and the reddish horns and eyes, kris’ family are all goats, and kris wore a red horned headband for a long time to be like them- ralsei IS a goat, and the reddish horns and eyes are a trait unique to ralsei: asriel never had those traits, but kris does 

if a dark world is supposed to reflect a certain lightner’s feelings, worries, or problems, there’s a very good chance that castle town is meant to represent how kris feels alone in their hometown, and wishes they were more like their family and their brother 

(this may also explain ralsei getting somewhat pushed aside by the story and having a sort of ‘secret’ connection with kris- he’s a reflection of kris.)
