Moonlight (2016)
This movie was very important to me because it was the first time I had experienced proper representation on such a large platform. And it is ultimately inspired me to work hard in being representative in my art work so that people like me have something to look towards. This movie discuss intersectionality in the most subtle of ways without forcing it onto the audience and I like to do the same with my art as well. I hope to create something as monumental as this one day.

I really enjoy this style of drawing and the way in which the artists handed the line work. The shadow shapes are very simple and done in a light hatch/cross-hatching style that I really like. It makes the figure seem not as heavy or weighted onto the page. The blinding of the figures is very interesting to me too and is what intitally drew my attention to the drawings. I want to attempt a drawing like this but give the figure Black facial feature instead of Eurocentric ones.

This image serves as a really good reference for what I plan on doing with my upcoming project. It is a low quality image so it is hard to make out the text that it at the bottom in the box, but the overall message can be understood from the imagery. It is as disheartening and emotion provoking as it a call to action. The image in general is very eye catching as the artist juxtaposed a very large planet typically only seen from space and a ice cream cone, small in comparison to the planet Earth. I also enjoy that the background of the image is simply black as it forces the viewer to pay attention solely to what is in the center of the image.

It isn’t the ASCII art you’re used to, but it is the high-end ASCII art you deserve. Check out more of @alphagravy‘s original GIFs in their #gravygif tag.

What you need to know about this fine piece of work is that it’s titled “HamsterBoy.” We hope your day is better for it.
