I had a lot of thoughts about the shooting that happened in Atlanta and the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes in general, so I made a video discussing them.
I talk about why it’s important to acknowledge that this hate crime happened at the intersection of racism and misogyny, the history behind the oversexualization of Asian women in the Western context, the history of Asian exclusion in Canada and the US, the role media plays in encouraging these hate crimes, the ways you can support the Asian and Pacific Islander communities, and more.
ik this isn't my place but it's uncomfortable how people who aren't asian are justifying their support for the asian community right now because they like... east asian entertainment 🤨 why can't y'all...... just protect asians without the ultimatum
it’s legitimately so fucked up and heartbreaking that in this society the ability to just like…relax and have fun with friends and loved ones is like…considered something you have to earn or make time at your own expense for. it should be regarded as one of the inalienable cornerstones of being human. i’m not joking, like the fact that having fun and chilling with your buds is considered an expendable frivolity instead of a vital core need is heartbreaking. not that capitalist society has ANY vital core needs that it’s not prepared to gate behind a monetary cost though lmao.
We really don't talk enough about how important the underlying messages in Labyrinth (1986) are for girls stuck in the transitional phase between childhood and adulthood.
The protest is a nightly event. People are upset over the treatment of our Black community, but the protest was down to a few hundred people before the Feds decided to over-react. Now we’re also upset to be having an occupying force attacking citizens for exercising their first Amendment rights.
Trump didn’t want to hear that Black Lives Matters, now we’re protesting his goons.
