the pure jdkshfkjshdfk-ness of han seo and vincenzo forming a brotherly bond after both having EXTREMELY shitty brothers who keep trying to kill them, and finally having a brother-figure that gives them the sibling relationship that is true and comforting is so *chefs kiss* to me
there’s something so poetic about han seo using han seok’s own weapon, the hockey stick, that he’s used to terrorize so many innocent people and han seo himself against him
no but it absolutely breaks me when Hanseo is fighting his brother and yells “ please, stop.”
he’s here protecting his found family against his biological one.
even with all of Hanseok’s abuse, you can tell Hanseo has a tiny part of him that genuinely wishes for his brother to be normal. to care for him. to just be a good brother. not only because he’s afraid of him, but because he needs that familial figure (that he luckily finds in Vincenzo).
witnessing Hanseok go psycho over and over again probably breaks Hanseo more than we let on. Hanseo wants a normal family above all, people to love and support.
and i need a moment to admire how far Hanseo has developed as a character. he stands his own ground and literally goes head on with his greatest fear- the source of all his trauma.
even after getting shot, he puts the safety of Vincenzo and Chayoung above himself, and continues to distract Hanseok as he bleeds.
in the perspective of Hanseok, his younger brother’s betrayal must result in him finally coming to terms that he is not god. he can’t continue to degrade and walk on others, he is not in control.
a kdrama challenge | 5/6 support characters - jang han seo (vincenzo)
“hyung-nim, you told me to become a businessman like elizabeth holmes. but she’s a fraud… and she’s in prison. so what you were saying was for me to become a fraud. but i can’t do that. i don’t want to cause any trouble for you.”
when Myung-Hee lies in prison, she sings a Handel aria, "Lascia ch'io Pianga" and the full text of which goes:
Lascia ch'io pianga
Mia cruda sorte
E che sospiri
La liberta
Il duolo infranga
Queste ritorte
De' miei martiri
Sol per pietà
and the rough english translation for all this is
let me weep
my cruel fate
and that I shall
have freedom
the duel infringes
within these twists
of my martyrdom
i pray for mercy
They put so much thought into choosing the music to parallel the plot-- Il duolo/ the duel is between Vincenzo and Han Seok, miei martiri/ my martyrdom refers to her taking the fall for Han-Seok, and pieta/mercy I read that this is her last ditch attempt to try to stay alive. I don't think Myung-Hee really believes Han-Seok will resolve this-- she herself has said that Vincenzo is way out of their league, and she's dumb but she still knows that even by some miracle Han-Seok beats Vincenzo, there is no way she will have a fruitful future. I genuinely think she only wanted to switch places with Han-Seok because she'll be harder to kill behind bars.
