i genuinely do not understand why people think ben would 'go dark' or whatever the hell once he finds the rest of the gang. sure, yea, he was upset when the adults left them behind, but there's more to it than that. he was angry because they were left behind, not just him. he was scared and tired and wanted to go home, and he was angry that the people who were supposed to have the answers abandoned them. the whole time, he was trying to keep everyone safe and making sure everyone got out in one piece. for fucks sake, he stepped up and faced his fears so he could save them!! he could have let darius go on the roof of the monorail car, he was already on his way. but ben made a split second decision that these kids, his friends, were more important than his fear-which, until that point, had held him back at a handful of moments. he knew what he was doing when he made that choice. he took a huge risk in an effort to do all he could to protect the people he cared about. are we seriously supposed to believe that after that, he would want them to go back for him, who they believed to be a broken body on the ground, instead of doing their damn best to escape with their lives? not to mention ben's inferiority complex! he always trusts any decision that isn't his own, and sees himself as 'holding back the group'. he tries to make himself feel useful by protecting bumpy (and his insistence that bumpy comes with them parallels his determination to help his friends get off the monorail alive, but we aren't discussing that today), and that is one of the only big decisions he makes in the first six episodes. if anything comes from ben's near-death (aside from some serious injuries and trauma) it would be his self worth shattering even further than it already was. he would probably unwittingly internalize the fact that they left him and see himself as lesser in comparison, not try to enact some twisted revenge on the only people he has looking out for him. ben could never purposefully hurt the same people he risked everything to save.

makes me laugh how azula and sokka have superficially a lot in common but would immediately hate each other’s guts for various reasons, on various principles, in 9 out of 10 circumstances where they could meet

SO TRUE SATURN
tlok writers i have a bone to pick with you and it’s this: why don’t we know anything about wu’s parents?
yes... PRINCE wu. a literal member of the earth kingdom ROYAL FAMILY? we don’t know a single thing about his parents, and that totally baffles me. it will plague my mind until the writers wanna give us any information– which seems to be never at this point since they had to chance to do that in the comics, yet didn’t. but there’s another comic in the works so i’m holding out hope!!! foolish as that may be
trust me. i’ve TRIED to piece together what information there is. and it’s pretty much nothing. here’s what we know:
earth king kuei’s daughter is hou-ting, the earth queen we see in season 3 of tlok. (although, in the comics it implies she’s his granddaughter, which is a straight-up plothole/writing error i debunked with my friend at 3:30 in the morning. seriously.)
hou-ting is wu’s great-aunt. wu says it himself in the first 5 minutes of his introduction. this means she’s the sister of wu’s grandparent.
(this raises some more questions as to what the timeline is. was her sibling younger or older? did the sibling have kids? if yes, what happened to those kids? it’s a lot to think about, so for your sake, poor reader, don’t read into it like i have.)
hou-ting did not have kids, because the throne would most likely go to them seeing ae
the question i’m asking is: why did the royal line skip a whole GENERATION?
you don’t have to be an expert in any type of royal line of succession to know that that... doesn’t happen. the only logical explanation for it to skip a whole generation is that there’s no one for it to go to. so they’d have to be dead. (and by they i don’t necessarily mean wu’s parents. but that’s the only answer seeing as hou-ting had no kids.) but then that brings up only more questions: HOW did they die? and WHY was it never addressed? this shit keeps me up at night.
not to mention wu is like 20 years old and worked to dismantle the earth kingdom monarchy. that’s kinda huge. just think: if the throne did not go to him, the earth kingdom would have stayed a monarchy for who knows how long?
wu’s relationship with his parents (or lack thereof) is something you can just kinda skip over. someone’s upbringing is vital to who they are, as is a recurring thing in tlok characters and also literally Everyone Ever. this only gets more important when your character is meant to shoulder the responsibility of an entire kingdom.
getting to know what wu’s parents were like genuinely good way to explore his character. in the show he’s arrogant, rude, and obnoxious– which could be explained by “he’s a spoiled prince,” but i don’t think he deserves to be brushed off like that, you know? maybe that’s just me. if his parents are dead like i speculate, don’t we deserve to see how it affected him? (or how it didn’t, if they were never close?)
summary: wu deserves to be more than comedic relief and a product of lazy writing/worldbuilding. wu nation i know you can back me up on this one. thank you for coming to my ted talk.
