Are they making Jonathan an utter loser this season to try and get us to root for St*ncy?

I’m sorry I know I sound like im fixated on this but that’s because I kind of am. The possibility of Steve and Nancy getting back together narratively seems so unlikely but they keep forcing it and it’s just so weird? Like, I’m sorry but after that scene of Nancy and Jonathan basically describing every little tiny little detail they love about each other, Robin calling them a power couple, their only issue being long distance and Jonathan’s fear of ending up like his parents in a loveless marriage that ends in divorce it makes absolutely no sense at all whatsoever and that’s only the stuff that’s happened this season. I liked stancy in season 1 & 2 a bit, I thought they were cute but it just doesn’t make any sense now. They’ve been setting up Jonathan and Nancy since the very beginning of season 1 it just makes so sense that they’d throw that away to put Nancy back with her ex and have Jonathan be sidelined. The only reasons I can think of behind the stancy teases/hints are either it’s to show the progression of their relationship and how there’s obviously still love there between them, particularly on Steve’s part but it’s being converted into friendship, they want more tension for the inevitable jancy reunion, they’re using it as a way to bring up some of the pain the two of them have been through and using that as ammunition for Vecna like how Nancy still blames herself for Barb’s death because she was with Steve when she died.
