These two misfits are inspired by @magpiefngrl‘s fic The Miseducation of Draco Malfoy, in which Draco learns to love all things Muggle including (but not limited to) going to the cinema, coke-a-cola, and the glossy pages of Cosmo. I never knew I needed a fic wherein Draco eagerly pursues the magazine racks of a corner shop in Clapham, but I did. I really, really did.
The second she mentioned them doing community service and donning orange jumpsuits, I flailed with joy (picture Kermit.) I simply had to draw these boys in Misfits’ attire.
.
Magpie, I hope you don’t mind the liberties I took with Harry. He’s rocking Sirius’ 1460′s, and for some reason, I was struck with the notion that he’d wear a headband, attempting to hide his scar, and failing. He thinks he looks cool. hehe. I have so many headcanons with Harry’s appearance I can get carried away.
The slight tug in Harry’s stomach as he left their office.
The headache that started as he approached the Apparition point.
The stomach ache that intensified as he neared his front door.
Even the dream Harry had that night didn’t make it clear. After all, he’d been having increasingly charged dreams about Malfoy for a while now, so this dream, full of acres of pale skin and intertwined limbs, wasn’t that out of the ordinary.
The worried looks on Ron and Hermione’s faces when he woke up in St Mungo’s were his first indication that maybe something was quite badly wrong.
As Hermione explained that Harry must have accidentally triggered a bonding spell during his last curse breaking raid, Harry could barely focus on her words.
His whole body ached with desire and a need to run, as if he was being magnetically pulled towards something. Hermione was in full flow, describing the chemistry behind the bond, but all Harry could think was Draco, Draco, Draco.
‘I have to go,’ he managed to stutter out before Apparating straight out of the hospital, ripping the wards as he went.
He appeared on Draco’s doorstep and lifted a trembling hand to knock on the door.
Before he could knock though, the door swung open to reveal Draco standing on the other side.
‘You’re here,’ Draco whispered. ‘Finally.’
No more words needed to be said. They crashed together, lips colliding in a heated kiss, Harry’s hands coming up to tangle in Draco’s hair, bodies pressed tightly together.
It was everything Harry had dreamed it would be. Everything that had been missing in his brief encounters with faceless men. Why had he never felt anything like this before?
And then realisation swept over Harry.
The bond.
Draco was only kissing Harry because of the bond.
Harry pulled away, horror spreading through him.
‘What’s wrong?’ Draco panted, confusion clear on his face.
‘You don’t want this. It’s only the bond. I can’t do this,’ Harry said, turning away.
‘Harry,’ Draco said, grabbing Harry’s hand to stop him leaving. ‘It’s not the bond!’
‘What?’
‘I’ve wanted this, wanted you, for ages. The bond only works because we already want each other.’
Harry just stared in disbelief, unable to believe what Draco was saying.
And then Draco was kissing Harry again, and Harry was lost.
Written for the May Drarry Discord Drabble challenge hosted by the wonderful @jeldenil and @midsummerdancer. The prompt was ‘chemistry’ with a word count of 394.
Thank you as well to @maesterchill for being a wonderful beta ❤️
This gave me grief at first, but in the end I loved it, and am very tempted to expand this into a full fic….
The thing about Harry Potter as a character is that he is insanely observant when he actually cares enough to pay attention. Meaning 90% of the stuff he deems unimportant flies over his head, but he makes these huge leaps of logic and intuition when he bothers to focus. Like in the books when it comes to anything relating to Voldemort or Death Eaters or People Not To Be Trusted (Draco, Umbridge). Growing up, he had to be able to see when a situation was going south long before the frying pan or Dudley’s fists came his way. But he also had to be able to ignore and tune out the constant flow of shit and neglect he was treated to.
If you think about it, for all the better aspects of Hogwarts, it still followed this same basic pattern. He had to pay close attention to the things trying to kill him (even classes took a back seat to this), but find a way to ignore and not acknowledge all the rumors and staring and people thinking he’s a prat or the heir of slytherin or a liar. I think this is why the arguments that Harry is a mushroom and notices nothing, and the arguments that he is deductively brilliant can exist side by side. He’s both. It’s also why, in my opinion, he tends to be ridiculously observant of Ginny once he starts to notice her as something important. She barely exists in the early narrative other than Someone to Be Saved. It’s also why Ginny can sometimes feel like she ‘comes from nowhere’ in the narrative. As far as Harry is concerned, she did come from nowhere. The switch in Harry’s brain went from Doesn’t Matter–Ignore to Very Important–Pay Close Attention, and BAM, there she was. Everywhere.
