poppy + domain / hedonism.

hedonism, while typically associated with sex, is the overarching pursuit of self - indulgence and associated with the philosophical idea that pleasure is the highest good and aim of human existence. presiding over hedonism, it is essentially poppy's domain to offer humans their deepest desires from a neutral standpoint.

poppy does not, has not and will not influence people into wanting things. it's not her m.o. what she does do, however, is support and encourage people to confront and pursue these desires. sex, money, power, glory. generally, she will not assist directly with these goals so much as influence those she interacts heavily with to achieve them.* she does not accept blame for any losses or failures they incur in their pursuits - nor does she accept any credit for their successes, though a little gratitude is always nice.

it is not uncommon for her encouragement to go awry, for someone to realize that they need to sacrifice to gain and turn the blame and pain of their losses into her fault. she will accept someone acting out only once - she understands the difficulty and fragility of human emotions. anything past that and the offending party is cut off from her entirely, desire itself taken from their soul, leaving them often listless until she decides ( or remembers ) to give it back.

poppy santos is a god you can touch. she exists nearly everywhere. as soon as desire sparks in your heart, a piece of her is there and it now becomes a matter of connecting with her. offerings are a nice, quick, easy way to get her attention and giving one is as simple as setting it on an altar, pouring one out or simply claiming it in her name. doing your research and using something like sigils or symbols related to her.

her preferred offerings include, but are not limited to: wine, vodka, burning candles in her associated colors, jewelry ( particularly gold or pearls ), seashells / sea glass / anything ocean related, dark chocolate, olive oil, make up or perfumes, food, flowers or blood ( especially if it's your own ).

non - material offerings include, but are not limited to: meditation, dancing, reading/writing poetry about her, orgasms, caring for rabbits.

you can cut a deal with her for plenty of things, though she works best for baneful magick, beauty or love magick, fertility magick or money magick. she won't ask for your soul, it's really of no use to her. all she asks is for a little respect and maybe to make a meal of your energy.

poppy + diet.

as mentioned, poppy's diet consists primarily of human energy and human flesh. she does eat and enjoy normal food alongside that, but it doesn't sustain or nourish her like humans do.

firstly, it's not that this consumption keeps her alive. she could stay alive without it, but it makes her thrive. even gods need to eat. theoretically, depriving her of food could weaken or at least mentally fatigue her, but due to her existence spanning across universes with one core soul constantly being fed, you'd have to deprive every single version of her from nourishment.

secondly, human energy tends to be the easiest and most favored route of consumption. while she typically seeks this out in the form of sex, any expression of strong emotion is edible to her and will nourish her. sex simply tends to be her preferred flavor, so to speak.

every individual she feeds off of has their own flavor and that flavor is further influenced by the emotion they're feeling in that moment. joy tends to lean itself to sweetness, anger to bitterness, sadness to saltiness, so on and so forth. while sex is, as mentioned, her typical preference, she does have a developed palette and enjoys the broad range of emotions and their various tastes.

getting eaten by her is an interesting sensation, again suited well to orgasm but widely applicable across emotions. she will heighten her target's feelings into an increasing, frantic crescendo and drain them of it when it is most potent, flavorful and energetic. at which point, her target will feel a slow drain, not only of said emotion, but of any energy in their body. being fed off of by her typically results in a deeply restful sleep for the target.

as for the consumption of flesh, poppy does not typically do this too often these days. she had a bit of a reckless phase where she ate anyone who pissed her off, but she's mostly matured out of that. she still does it, occasionally, with a willing sacrifice or someone she finds undeserving of life itself. eating flesh is akin to eating the very source point of the energy she typically consumes and thus, is quite filling for her.

i say human throughout all of this because it's simply the default, but poppy can most definitely eat off of other entities and beings as well.

poppy santos was born julianna rivera in 1963. she grew up a dedicated christian and generally happy child, despite having a deeply difficult home life. during her freshman year of high school, she met and dated anthony king, a known drug dealer. their relationship soured quickly, based off co - dependence and corruption. she began abusing the drugs he sold. they lived together for some time after dropping out of high school in julie's junior year, until she came home to him cheating on her.

from there, she became determined to get her life together. she lived out of her car with her dog, dulce. eventually, she was able to recover and landed a job as a waitress, where she meets jacquelynn morris. the two had a whirlwind romance and became "engaged" in 1985, despite it not being legal. they lived together and had a happy life.

until anthony contacted julie again, wanting to re - connect and apologize. while julie had no intention of getting back together with him, she did agree to meet him. this would be the mistake that ended her life, as anthony had fallen in with a nasty crowd. upon arriving to where they agreed to meet, julie was kidnapped and taken to a filthy motel where she'd be murdered by the entity known only as the man in shades. the entire encounter was recorded. hours of torture left her body permanently disfigured.

julianna rivera died december 31st, 1989.

something else woke up in the roadside ditch she was thrown into.

whatever this thing was, it was entirely new. the spirit of babylon enmeshed with the soul of a girl that once was. one of the only hints to her identity being the poppies tattooed across her collarbone.

she's found by a mechanic named grayson. she stays in his home, mingles with his family and eventually, falls madly in love with him. they get engaged and as she settles into a new life, her lack of memories from her past bothers her less and less.

until strange dreams begin to haunt her at night. until she realizes she's hypnotizing nearly everyone she comes in contact with. until she becomes terrified she is something else entirely, that she's been taking advantage of her newfound love this entire time.

without explanation, she abandons him in the middle of the night and makes her way to new york as if led by fate. therein, she finds a town populated by beings like her - concubi, vampires, werewolves. monsters from all walks of life. it's here she finds acceptance. it's here she finds answers.

she is babylon the great. one day, it will be her time to end this world and all those existing beside it, but for now, she's found a life to live.

she is employed as a bartender at the oak, a dive bar and sanctuary for the damned, owned and operated by her adoptive mothers. she is secondarily employed as a dancer at club cipher, a nightclub specifically designed for humans and creatures of the damned to intermingle. this is where most of poppy's diet comes from.

you can try to kill poppy. that's fine. she'll likely even let you attempt - but she cannot die. she will just pop back up a few minutes later.

poppy is multiversal. she is one soul split into many forms, spanning across billions of universes and even in multiple forms in singular universes. she exists wherever desire exists. this means she can be slotted into any au/verse/etc. with relative ease, thus my lack of verses page.

poppy is telepathic and omnipotent. however, unlike other gods of her pantheon, she prefers to suppress her own ability to maintain her connection to her own shreds of humanity. she will generally not read someone without either their consent or due reason to do so. she much prefers connecting with humans on a more genuine level.
