Brazil is going through one of the worst climatic crisis ever seen.

i live in the southernmost state, Rio Grande do Sul. we have been suffering from extreme, nonstop rainstorms for a week now. the rivers are flooding, reaching 4-6 meters above their natural level. people are being rescued by helicopters, neighborhoods are being evacuated. entire cities are slowly but surely becoming submerged in water. 60 people missing and counting. 32 deaths and counting.

and this is not new. last november also had a flood like this one. 50 dead, many material losses. it happened again this january, with thousands being left without power or water for days.

three catastrophical disasters within less than a year. three disasters only a few months apart.

this is not natural.

unsustainable agricultural practices and politics led to this. a complete disregard for nature led to this. greed led to this. always greed.

when it comes to the climate crisis, i cannot stress this enough: we need to act now if we still want to live. disasters like this are going to happen more often and they're going to be much, much worse. this flood is being considered the worst climatic catastrophe in the history of my state. i don't know how long it will take for another bigger one to happen and take its place. i just know it will be sooner than it should.

Yes, what you're seeing is dead children, trapped under the rubble of what used to be their home in Raffah, after over 220 days of terror, starvation, cold, grief, destruction and a sense of doom.

What you're seeing is the hand of an older brother that was protectively over the head of his younger brother, in hopes to protect and save him in case they get bombed.

They did....and they were murdered in the process.

Its been over 6 months, over 15.000 dead children, over 30.000 orphaned children, over 40.000 deaths.

They arent just numbers, but the world treats them as such...those 3 children...are now part of that number.

I have never thought that i'd ever see so many bodies of children...of babies, of mothers, of fathers, of uncles, of grandfathers, of siblings, of aunts.

So many mutilated body parts, mutilated children, mutilated women and men.

I never have though that i'd see fathers carrying their childrens bodyparts into plastic bags.

I never thought i'd see brothers carrying their siblings dead bodies in backpacks...

And amid all of this, i never thought i'd see people cheering for a murderous Apartheid colonial state that has been terrorizing the Palestinians for over 75 years.

Do not forget them.

Dont forget their faces,

Dont get used to their suffering,

Dont forget about Palestine.

Make du'a for them, pray for them, speak up, protest, boycott.

Inna Illahi wa Inna Illahi Raji'un...may Allah grant them entrance to Jannah, to them and to their parents...Their suffering has ended, but the suffering of over 2 million people is still not over.

When I learned about the holocaust in school I was always baffled by the fact that it went on for so long.

I was shocked that cities and countries full of people knew what was happening and so many of them did nothing.

I was devastated that so many people, so many children, were brutally killed.

And now, in the year 2024, I am sitting in my room and I am reading and I am weeping.

this is what I weep about:

A 12 year old boy who was shot by Israeli police.

A pregnant woman who was beaten and raped in front of her husband and family.

Journalists and reporters who have been targeted and murdered.

Relief workers bringing starving children food targeted and murdered.

Doctors and nurses and ambulance drivers targeted and murdered.

Multiple discoveries of mass graves.

12,300 children who have been murdered.

1.5 million innocent civilians in Rafah who are being trapped at the border and bombed in the city with no where else to go.

I am sitting here in my room,

warm and fed and safe,

and absolutely ashamed of this world.

and I weep for the people of Palestine.

and I rage at the American government for funding and supporting this genocide.

and I despair, for we are now the people I read about in the history books.
