hold up im reading more about the lionfish thing and this one island in Honduras has had such a huge problem with lionfish that the measures they have taken include
• getting special exemption from the Honduran government to allow divers access to harpoons and spears which are otherwise illegal in fishing
• public campaign to teach people how to prepare and eat lionfish (apparently they are very tasty once the poisonous spines are removed) (but watch out)
• holding lionfish combination hunting competition and cookout (reportedly they killed and cooked 1,700 in a day) (someone killed 60 of them with a rubber band spear gun???)
• most recently and apparently out of desperation, the divers in charge of culling the lionfish in the Roatan Marine Park just started. feeding the lionfish they killed to sharks. bc what else are you gonna do with it
• the sharks don’t seem to notice or be affected by the poison and begin hanging out with the divers
• the sharks then were seen hunting and killing the lionfish on their own
like this is nuts to me sorry. the sharks just had to be shown “hey this is food, did you know?? you can eat these!! here try one!!” we are possibly altering an entire foodchain bc we like feeding the big ocean wolves

Hey everyone. There's another app on the Google playstore. Pretty sure it's not official and it's making money from in-app ads.
I think the AO3's latest post about apps is here:

there's a kind of characterization drift that I've seen happen a lot in fandoms that lowkey infuriates me because it ends up with fanon characterization that is a full 180 degree turn from a character's original personality but I also understand and sympathize completely with how it happens. the character in their original work has a personality based around a few key traits, for the sake of explaining let's say the character is really kind and caring, and maybe in one or two scenes they're pushed to their limit and act really mean in a way that is very unlike them. as the nature of transformative fandom is often about exploring elements that were missing/barely there in the og works, fans think "oh I really want to delve in on this character's mean side, it's an interesting nuance to them and I want to examine it," and through feedback loops you end up at a place where their prevailing fanon personality is a borderline violently aggressive asshole. again, I totally see where this comes from, and it drives me insane.

As far as ethical materials go you can’t really get better than wool.
The sheep need the hair cut.
Nothing dies for it.
Sheep live pretty much wild for most the year.
Placed correctly they maintain a landscape and help the wildlife that live there to thrive.
Doesn’t use Vast Quantities of land for little product.
Not draining inland fresh water oceans.
Been spending thousands of years perfecting the genetics for this purpose.
Comes in many different kinds of uses.
And the animal it comes off is fully edible.
My main issue with it is it has fallen so out of fashion that it pays the farmers who make it more to transport it than they get per fleece, and people have really fucking weird hang ups about the ethics of giving a sheep a hair cut.

“why does this character who has done terrible things deserve a happy ending, how can you be okay with that, why do they deserve anything nice”
well see it’s because the entire concept of what people “deserve” is a messy ethical quagmire that has really troubling implications no matter how you use it
but also it’s because i like fictional miserable little assholes and i do what i want
