COP26
What a better example to give than the current Global climate change conference, COP26. I haven’t actually been into Glasgow city centre yet since before all the events across the city began. I have seen lots of different events and exhibitions across social media mainly Instagram, where influencers and the public have been spreading awareness.
The green zone which is based in the Glasgow science centre, this has been one of the most popular events I have seen on Instagram. The event space is decorated beautifully with flowers/grass walls, bagpipes were playing on the opening day, Brian Cox was one of the speakers at the Green zone which attracted a lot of attention.
There is still a lot of events to take place over the next week in Scotland which I cannot wait to see either online or hopefully manage to get into the city to experience it all for myself and learn more about climate change.

A rainy night at Bellahouston
Back in August 2017 Eminem was coming to Bellahouston park in Glasgow to take part in the annual “Summer sessions” weekend. The hype up to Eminem coming that summer was unreal, everyone was talking about it and everyone was going. I have never been a major rap fan but I liked a few of his songs and a few of my friends wanted to go so we purchased tickets.
On the day of the show it was noticeable that we were going to have to take our ponchos and jackets with us but we were excited and that did not dampen our mood at all. We had a few pre drinks getting on way into town and stopped at a bar beforehand to get shelter from the rain before heading over to where the show was held. Once we got there I had high hopes, the rain was kept at a minimum as it was just a light drizzle which everyone was fine with, there wasn’t much mud which was a bonus and the park is huge so there was plenty of space to dance and enjoy ourselves.
The crowd was amazing everyone was just having fun in the moment, the supporting acts on the run up to Eminem were full on energy and great live, I didnt know any of their music but I was loving the atmosphere. However, it didn’t last long as the rain got heavier and started lashing it down! Everyone was soaked and the morale of the crowd had went down drastically, this caused one of the supporting acts to get frustrated and ended up shouting at the crowd etc due to the lack of singing and cheering. At this point, we were tired and bored due to the spirits being completely different. We went to the food and drink stalls and the queues were ridiculous, we waited 40 minutes for a burgers and chips that robbed us a tenner ! We felt ready to go home and quite a few attendees did actually end up leaving.
Eminem graced the stage and got the crowd back to great standards, morale lifted and everyone was starting to enjoy themselves again even though the weather was horrible. He rapped all his best selling hits and we danced the night away, overall I would give the night a 7/10.

The girls day out show
Ahh!! One of my favourite annual events I have ever experienced! The Girls Day Out Show which is held at the SECC in Glasgow. This event has been going ahead every year since 2009 and the only time it has not went ahead has been due to COVID19 and is back in May 2022!
I was never a “girly girl” until I got to about 17 years old, my dad raised me pretty much on his own. I was always in a pair of Nike or Adidas joggers, pair of football boots, never wore makeup etc. I was happy that way. for my 16th birthday my Godmother took me and my cousin to “The Girls Day Out Show” and I was sort of dreading it Makeup, hair, lifestyle chats. It just wasn’t something I would ever choose to go to.
I LOVED IT !! On arrival you got a free glass of Prosecco (I had a mocktail). The SECC is a perfect venue for this type of exhibition, you could see all the stalls which were all brightly coloured (a lot of them pink). We started going round them and I remember the first one we stopped at was “FakeBake” which is a tanning company which is very successful. I had never wore tan before and they gave you a free consultation of what your skin type was like and what would be the best tanning product for you, which i thought was great they done that plus walked away with some free goodies! The other stalls we went to were the likes of “Mark Hill” for hair, there was hair masterclasses and makeup ones too with professional artists!
THE FOOD. WOW. I am a big eater, I love trying new food and there was so many different stalls, giving out lots of freebies as well as being able to buy meals and beverages! My Auntie was very fond of the cocktail bar, and the bartender even made me a few mocktails which I thought was great I could be part of the fun and enjoy a non alcoholic drink as if it were a cocktail.
Ever since this year I have attended all of the annual shows since and they have only got bigger and better every year. I would rate the full day out a 10/10 experience and would recommend this to any girl to go whether it be with friends or even a family day out, there is something there for everybody!

My disaster of a weekend
Creamfields. Creamfields is a festival I had dreamed of going to for so long of my teenage years. My music taste is very wide spread, I like a bit of everything but I have always had a love for techno, house and dance music, so what festival is better to go to than Creamfields? Me and four other of my friends purchased the gold 4 camping days ticket, us thinking this would be cleaner, safer and handier for getting to the stages. This was not the case.
As a group of young girls travelling to somewhere we had never been before we were more than happy to pay that bit extra to have a safe and nicer camping experience. On the Friday night we got back to our tent and there was a group of older men and women in our tent! They had vandalised our tent which had holes in it and the weather was not great either so there was no way we could sleep an feel safe in our own tent! When we approached them and let them aware they had got into the wrong tent, they told us that they didn’t pay for gold camping tickets and had actually purchased bronze!! So how did they get in?
I approached security once they had left our tent and went to carry on the rest of their partying elsewhere, I explained they didn’t have gold wristbands so how was this able to happen? We were told this was an accident and we had to get on with it. Five young girls ages between 17-20 to sleep under a vandalised tent? We were unsure of what to do at this point, so we tried to make do with what we had by covering the holes etc with blankets and covers but nothing worked. The next day we went to the information centre at the gold camping area and explained to a woman what had happened, she was one of the supervisors and was very helpful. She was able to help us with our tent and get us a new one to stay in, apologised about how we were treated and asked if there was any further way she could help.
So the problem had been solved, it was the Saturday night and we were buzzing! Camelphat, Alan Fitzpatrick, Adam Beyer, Pete Tong were some of the DJ’s playing this night and we could not wait! We took our bags to our new tent and began getting ready, half of our own property was gone from each bags! Those individuals who got into our tent must have stolen our own property, some money missing, portable chargers, makeup, clothes etc we were gutted.
We did our best to enjoy ourselves and the actual layout of the festival, stalls, merchandise the acts were amazing and I would love to go back and try to enjoy it. However, due to my personal experience with the lack of security when paying extra hundreds of pounds for people to vandalise our property and steal has personally put me off ever visiting the festival again.

My guilty pleasure
We all have them... mine is a boyband that were formed on the British talent show “X Factor” in 2010, One Direction. I was one of those crazy teenagers following them across the country. One thing the boyband knew how to do was to put on an amazing show and all round incredible experience.
In December 2010 I attended one of their first concert at Campus Nightclub in Glasgow, a small popular venue for young adults but for that night was filled with screaming teenage girls. There was next to no performing or big fancy lighting and sound systems, even their outfits were regular and normal clothes. The event was just based on their vocals and getting to know the new band.
The boys next tour was their “Take me home tour” which was in the Scottish Exhibition Centre in 2013, this became more of a show. The boys had clearly upgraded in sound systems, lighting techs, choreographers etc and overall was more of a performance. Rather than just screaming girls, it became family shows where everyone enjoyed. I remember purchasing light up bunny ears with “1D!” all over them, wristbands and t-shirts etc. the queues to get in to the concert and at the merchandise stall were 10x bigger than back in 2010, these boys became a worldwide sensation and knew how to put on a performance!!
I went to every concert in Glasgow that One Direction held from 2010 right up until they went on hiatus, my personal favourite was the final tour “On the road again tour” Zayn had just quit the band and we didn’t know this would be our last time dancing and belting our hearts out to our favourite hits. The show made you fell like you were part of something more than just a fan base, it was like a family. The directors for everything behind the scenes from lights, cameras, sound, costume etc created this amazing experience for all of us to remember as the last ever One Direction concert.
These concerts were my entire childhood and teenage years, by attending these I felt I had a family out with my biological family. I cannot wait to be reunited with some of the people I met at these concerts when there is a One Direction reunion! I will be first in line.

Welcome to Becca’sEventsBlog
Here at Becca’sEventsBlog I will be sharing some of my favourite events I have attended and events I would love to go to. I will also be including how the events industry are struggling getting back on their feet after being affected by Covid19.
My first event that I am going to share with you is a personal favourite of my own, T in the Park. I first attended T in the park when I was 14 years old, my Dad bought me a day ticket and took me to see some of my favourite DJS. This was the first year it was held at Strathallan Castle and the site was huge, there was a lot of walking about. I remember getting past security and getting one of those memorable wristbands that you don't take of for weeks because at the time it seemed cool to show it off at school.
I dreamed of seeing Avicci live and it was as amazing as I had always imagined, being on my dads shoulders, dancing and enjoying the music I have always loved. I used to watch TITP on the TV every year whilst my Dad attended every year with his friends since he was younger, I felt so lucky to finally be there and experiencing the live music.
However, the full experience wasn’t great. There was a lot of drug and alcohol abuse that anyone could see walking by. For a father and daughter to be enjoying their day together at a festival, we did see some horrible things that other people were doing at the festival and is one of the reasons that TITP no longer takes place and has now been replaced by TRNSMT as Scotland’s summer music festival.
Overall, I loved my TITP experience that I attended the following year with my friends for the last ever TITP. The full experience was amazing even in bad weather, the artists that attended were some of the best acts I have ever seen. If TITP ever comes back, I will be one of the first buying a ticket.
