athelstan x lagertha x ragnar, "we keep meeting randomly when we /shouldn't/ maybe it's fate??"
(These keep getting sooooooooo out of hand.)
The first time Athelstan sees them, he’s in the train station in London, clutching his small bag closer, ready to leave England for the first time in his life. They have their arms around each other, laughing about something, changing trains, leaned in close to each other while he says something in might be Norwegian or Swedish.
The woman sees Athelstan watching them and winks, and then they’re swallowed by the crowd, or he is, and all Athelstan has left to do is get on his train. And it’s nothing, really, so he forgets about them the moment they’re out of sight.

Rome is grand and overwhelming and Athelstan’s brave attempts at Italian don’t get him by as well as his Latin does when he visits Vatican City.
