A while ago I wrote that colossus sirenfish see how eye-level you are as a sign of respect, so I’ve always imagined Joel trying to be eye-level so Sun just ZOOPS up, rubbing his tail against him all the way HDJCNDJ

Mermaid Moon, Sun and Eclipse have a different visible light spectrum so they actually can see your lovely human stripes!!<3

You often would carefully trace their own patterns with your fingertips when any of them allowed you that close. And the sound of purring would always let you know that they don't mind.

But you never could really understand why their caress followed a specific pattern as well. It was interesting, as each of them always followed the same direction, their claws gently gliding over your skin when you weren't wearing your diving costume. You doubted they secretly agreed to mess with you in that way. Plus, their eyes followed some invisible path too... You could see their scleras dilate every time.

Whatever they saw, they found it beautiful.

If/when I write a full fic, I’m thinking of making it so the events of the story can be influenced by reader votes/input?

The MC (Joel) is his own character - which I’ll post about sooner or later - but it might be cool if y’all had the ability to vote on courses of actions, like a choose-your-own adventure story.

Caught alone on the dock a few weeks after an attack, Joel has a conversation with said underwater-attacker, which quickly goes from awkward to poking a metaphorical bear. Joel isn’t sure this is a good idea, but when this thing has been trying to kill you for months, you can’t help but have a bit of fun.

Still not 10% sure where/when I want the fic to start with. In the story Joel (MC) encounters the Mer-bois a lot before they ever actually interact ((as in he gets attacked. not fun))
