Introduction
This web page will serve as a living archive of my grandparents Mildred and Pete. When my grandmother passed away in 2019 I received a box of film and a diary from her home in Orange, TX where she had lived since the house was built in the 1950s. My object is to create a digital forum where I can preserve these images and text that may not exist much longer in their physical form, weather from age or loss or other outside circumstances. I will chronicle a year in the life of my grandmother Mildred as written in her diary dated 1940, her senior year of high school and first year of college. Interspersed with photographs taken by my grandfather many years later of their children and grandchildren. I will also include my own writings from my daily diary that I am keeping as a practice of connecting with and memorializing my grandmother. When complete this series should create an intimate picture of life on the SE border of Texas from 1940-1995 contrasted with a personal narrative of my life in Philadelphia in 2021.
