It’s book reading time evening! BJ and Lyds find Stephan King book “IT”, this couple can’t wait to read it!

Every time antis and other fanpol imply that libraries are restricted or whatever, I wonder when the last time any of them even went to a library? The only libraries I can think of that were actually restricted in any way were my middle school libraries in tiny, conservative towns.

Anyway, here's a reminder to support your local library! Don't just check out books, also look into whether your library is connected to online collections like hoopla, what sort of clubs and classes and other programs it has available (many teach important skills like coding, gardening, foraging, etc), what events it hosts, if it has things like a seed or item library or whether there's an interest in starting them, what sort of items they're looking for in donations, if it's looking for volunteers, etc.

Libraries are vitally important parts of our communities and supporting them and giving them more funding (stick up for them at town meetings! it makes a difference!) can literally save lives, especially the lives of homeless people who use libraries as shelter, kids from bad homes who have few places to go, and elderly people who use libraries to participate in their communities and learn new skills.

And, of course, fight against library censorship in all its forms. Libraries are under constant attack with huge efforts to restrict what content they're allowed to have, most of those attacks aimed at queer content, information about marginalized religions, and resources to learn about and recognize abuse (particularly sexual abuse). This is a battle that librarians fight constantly, but it's not one that they can win without support from their communities.
