I really love the baklava scene in the old guard, in fact the whole opening scene because it establishes their characters and their relationships so much! Like Andy and Booker don’t hug when they meet, but she’s got Don Quixote for him and he checks in with her about her year out. Booker says he’s in Marrakesh for family at the hotel. Andy hugs Nicky so tenderly and slow it shows the depth of their love for each other, just as Joe giving her a great old bear hug and swinging her around and joking with her shows their relationship too. Booker spikes his own tea, showing he’s hurting, even amongst family and none of them comment on it, showing how they’ve let it slide. Nicky has baklava for Andy, but it’s also for Booker it’s their game together. Even before we know that Joe and Nicky are together, we know that Joe puts up Nicky’s half of the bet money. They’re all so comfortable with each other, and joyful too!

Like in some films we’re shown a team *cough* marvel *cough* and they’re supposed to be close so that later it can be messed with and played around with for kicks and drama but often it’s not believable because there’s no genuine love there, just manufactured and wooden. Here in the first scene we’re left with, firstly a great first impression of each of their characters, but more importantly we’re in no doubt that these 4 aren’t just work colleagues, no Andy, Joe, Nicky, and Booker love each other so much, they’re family, and that’s what makes the emotional pay off so much more heartbreaking later.

obsessed with how the guys gave this whole speech about how Nile must be scared and confused and alone after her first death, and they must help her because she's one of them, and they all remember what it was like at the beginning, and so Andy goes and just.. knocks her out and kidnaps Nile. and when Nile tries to escape, Andy just.. shoots her in the head.

I literally reblogged 2 posts yesterday and went off in the tags about how I hope they never explain immortality because it would give Netflix the means to CREATE as many new immortals as they wanted. I log onto twitter and see this:

sometimes i think about andy and lose my mind a little bit i mean just think about everything she's seen and all the battles she's fought..... she spent centuries, if not millenia, alone..... she probably remembers fragments of languages that nobody else has spoken in thousands of years..... she doesn't even know for sure if the woman she remembers as her mother really was her mother but loves her as if she was..... she's been using the same axe for millenia through countless wars...... she's seen humanity do some incredible things and some terrible ones..... how many events were lost to history that she bore witness to, now kept alive only in her memory? how many people has she loved and lost? how many places has she known that she can't return to because they no longer exist? and despite all of that despite being witness to all the terrible things people do to each other she's STILL kind and loving and she STILL chooses to help people and do good.... i'm emotional

Its funny how people ignore Andys absolute suffering to focus on Booker. Like nobody talks about Andy's trauma and depression. She lost everything. She spent so long alone and nobody talks about it. All of the essays on Booker's every little bit of trauma but nothing absolutely nothing for andy
