Many years ago when I was struggling with a specific sin, I got so tired of the repeating cycle of repenting and intentionally falling back into it that one day I sat on the prayer mat and asked Allah to remove the sweetness I found in this sin so it would become less attractive to me.

And it worked! As the days went by, my nafs started finding less "happiness" in that sin and as time passed I found it easier to say no to it. Years later I fell back into it (as we all do) and I realised that the joy I found in this sin was still not there. I realised how easy Allah made it for me to remove this sin from my life by removing the illusion of "joy" from my heart. When you take the first step towards Allah, He will always be there to guide you.🤍

قال ابن القيم رحمه الله:

من رحمة الله بعبده أن يبتليه ببلاء لا يستطيع البوح به ، ولا يجد من يفهمه في تفاصيله ؛ حتى لا يكون في قلبه تعلُّقٌ بأحدٍ غير الله يشكو إليه .

Ibn Al Qayyim رحمه الله said:

From Allah’s mercy upon His servant is that He tests him with a trial which he can’t disclose to others nor can he find anyone who can understand it fully/properly—so that his heart doesn’t become attached to anyone else instead of Allaah who he goes and complains to.’

One of the most beautiful lessons from Surah Yaseen is that the crowd isn’t always right. There is a story in this Surah where the entire city rejects the Prophets (peace be upon them) except for one man, he believes and is killed for his courage and, in return, is granted Paradise by Allah for his sacrifice. The lesson here is that the truth isn’t always with the majority and we must stand for the truth. In a society where haram is normalised and halal is mocked, we must always fight for what’s right, even if it means becoming disliked as a result. However, being hated by everyone isn’t a loss because if Allah supports you then there is no one who can defeat you. The success is always in the next life.

What an intimate gift to be welcomed into another’s world and be so aware of them. The way they process and view life, their fears, their questions. I always feel so lucky when someone shares a piece of themselves with me. I’ll always carry that piece of them with me. It’s like, I see you and you see me and I know we’ll never forget this moment.
