Helluva Boss Criticism

Some people are just kinda melting down about Helluva Boss in the tags, or about criticism towards Helluva Boss, and it’s just really sad.

Like…I dunno. Is it really that hard to enjoy something while admitting it has issues? Like, a fucking twinkie. For example. They’re pure sugar that Hostess managed to coerce into the shape of a pastry - and, frankly, they’re mid taste-wise, but they’re distinct and I don’t think there’s anything else that tastes like a twinkie except for twinkies.

Like, it’s not a problem that you don’t exclusively enjoy things that are without flaw and are totally perfect. There’s no such thing. Everything has flaws - not as a function of existing, but as a function of being observed, and that’s because people that observe things have opinions on things and decide that things are whole or flawed depending on their subjective opinion.

It’s pretty goddamn toxic. You can live in a world where things you enjoy are not perfect - lots of people who watched The Room live in a world where at least one thing they enjoy isn’t even good. At least, according to most everyone else.

Not to get armchair psychologist, but if you need things you love to be perfect, does that mean that you feel you need to be perfect to be loved?

Imperfection is beautiful. Imperfection creates art. I’m invested in a lot of characters because they’re broken or flawed, not because they’re perfect. Even in shows where the hero literally can’t lose, there’s different kinds of struggles and battles that they’re fighting a losing battle with; it’s an imperfection of them as characters. They can crack mountains in half, but their character is what is enduring the trials, not their abilities or what they can do.

So, like…I dunno.

Just know that when people drag up criticism of a show you watch, they’re just reading what they, subjectively, see on the ingredients list of the twinkie.

Eat the twinkie. Enjoy it. Have a good time eating that twinkie. It’s not the end of the world just because you don’t absolutely love every second of it, or because you read the ingredients afterwards and figure it probably isn’t the best food.
